Oh Tori!

Unflattering angle, unflattering dress, tired, ready to pop Tori Spelling! What can you really say about a girl who is wearing her pregnancy pass OUT? Click on the thumbnails below to enlarge each picture. Since this is pregnancy related, I will update you on today. I've gotten a handful of emails asking me to reiterate the story. So I will place it here if you are interested. To read about what is going on with my pregnancy, click on the continue reading link below.

Before I tell you about today, let me give you a quick recap of last pregnancy. I was placed on bed rest at 20 weeks because I had a short cervix and a irritable uterus.  That basically meant I was contracting every 2-3 minutes for the length of my pregnancy. I ended up delivering at 37 weeks. BUT it wasn't a big deal because she was already 8 pounds 13 oz. due to my gestational diabetes. YEAH! Did I mention I had a c section?
Okay  - so I went a few weeks ago to get a baseline check of my cervix and it turns out I have a NORMAL sized one. This is good and bad. It's good because I have a normal cervix and it's bad because last pregnancy I either went through pre-term labor OR had an incompetent cervix. Either way, I am on watch. Every few weeks I have to go to the hospital to get checked.
I've been having pains in my stomach and I thought it was my belly stretching. I got very sick two weeks ago and ended up losing 4 pounds. Apparently, that sickness might still be hiding out in my system.  The pain I've been feeling is all over my stomach - top and bottom. So my doc said that the pain might be coming from my pancreas or gall bladder. SO I have to go to a radiologist tomorrow and see if I have GALL STONES. If that is the case - then I have to have surgery to get them removed after I deliver. The only reason why I am not throwing myself off the couch is because the pain feels more like menstrual cramps. I think if I really had gall stones I would be crying or something. But nevertheless, we have to check it out. I'm scared because I don't know what else it could be if it isn't what she thinks.
So tomorrow is radiology and then Wednesday is another cervix check. Monday is blood work and I'm in the clear for two more weeks before I have to go back to the hospital for another check up. I am about 15 weeks pregnant today so that gives me about 5 more weeks to make it past last pregnancy's downfall. I think if I make it past 20 weeks without getting placed on bed rest I will be so happy!
To top it all off - I also went to ANOTHER hospital to see my cousin AND his grandfather who are both getting treatment at the same time. My cousin (who is my age - 29) got an infection in his arm and it down for the count. They don't know if it was a spider bite or what. But he is loopy and in a lot of pain. I feel so bad for him! His grandfather just got his hips replaced. So today was NOT fun. But I am home and warm and my daughter is sleeping. I guess that is all we can ask for right?

Oooh, mystery spider bites are nasty. Best of luck to your cuz.

Can they just laser gall stones to break them up like they can with kidney stones?

Poor poor Vera. *sympathy clucks*

I really dont know what they will do. She said surgery and after I give birth. SO Im thinking that I am going to feel worse and worse until its taken care of. But I am jumping to conclusions - who knows if it will really happen. Perhaps its just really bad gas?? I dont know. I get blood tests back on Wed. and I am going for the sono tomorrow. So I guess we will know more then. I am really hoping its just stretching pains...

But she said it wouldnt be on top of my stomach if thats the case...

Hi Vera,

The husband and I are planning to become pregnant soon and I am really concerned about developing gestational diabetes. I was wondering if you could discuss it - risk factors, how it affected you during and post-pregnancy, etc - either via email to me directly or a post. It would be greatly appreciated!!

Stay strong!!

I sure do feel your pain. Was "diagnosed" with GD at 17 weeks, and feel like a human pin cushion. No bed rest at this time, hoping to avoid it, am almost 26 weeks now. I really hope you get through 20 weeks and beyond without having to go on bed rest. Hang in there!

Dear Vera,
I hope all goes well with your pregnancy and you begin to feel better. I too was in the jhospital like your cousin it sounds like. It turned out I had MRSA which is commonly mistaken for a spider bite by many doctors. I pray that you and your family get well soon.

Vera, I am so sorry you are going thru this. Ask your doctor about 17P shots for preterm labor prevention. After having horrible pregnancies with bed rest, preterm labor and GD - this last baby was pretty good. I had to see the highrisk specialist every 2 weeks and get a shot every week from my 18 week until I delivered. Because of the shot I was able to have a normal pregnacy without bedrest. My cervix was like yours - normal - but I had preterm labor with all my children except the last one (#4).
I still had GD - but the diet works good and kept me from gaining a ton of weight. Sage Marie is just the most beautiful 4 month old little girl. I am so blessed. I know everything will work out.
