• post-partum depressio

 • bipolar disorder

I think she probably suffers from both.
and I think the post partum amplified it.
I have pretty much thought all along it was post partum and was suprised no one ever thought this a huge possibility considering she had two children back to back and that she was able to leave her newborn so many nights in a row to go party. She probably felt disassociated from her baby. Hope she gets better! I think she will and come back better than ever she just needs time to heal and grow.

Yeah, PPD is different than PP PSYCHOSIS.

dvden (not verified)dvden (not verified) said:

I had PPD and was given Zoloft which then triggered my undiagnosed bipolar disorder. There are manic phases (shaving her head) and depression phases, where you can be in either state periods of time, or cycle between them both, sometimes even within the same day.

Bipolar.

I love Brit - have since she was just a kid on Disney. I pray for her and want so much to see her get well. Bless her heart.

They are basically saying she is becoming--Andrea Yates---

Am I right?

Those kids are doomed.

I know a couple people who took ecstasy and their undiagnosed bipolar disorder came out.

BOTH!!

I hope she can stay with treatment, as I imagine medication will be prescribed and it can be terribly hard to STAY on meds for depression and/or bipolar disorder. Mental health meds come with a ton of unwanted side effects and many folks want to quit the meds almost as soon as they begin them. I wish her some peace right now. She is obviously suffering and crying out for help.

I say the 3rd option....drugs

How common is Post-Partum Psychosis versus PPD?

I was taught in college that bipolar cycles were quite long and at most several cycles a year occurred. Is fast cycling just not that common, or was the class just outright wrong?

Good question....I hope they find the answers and get this girl some help.

Lilly (not verified)Lilly (not verified) said:

It could be both. I had very bad PPD and I can tell you it was the worst time for me. Hormones are very powerful and you cant even explain how you feel, because you feel like nobody would understand. Support is needed and I hope she gets the help she needs, for her and her babies.

I pick option 3......... DRUGS!!!!!!!!

I hope she gets herself together.

Heavy Drug Use leads to both PPP and bipolar which she has. Think ANS...

Definitely post partum depression. I agree with what someone said earlier - how else could you leave your newborn to go out clubbing?

sumi (not verified)sumi (not verified) said:

Bi Polar

Karen (not verified)Karen (not verified) said:

I think the post-partem is most likely. Bi Polar would have shown up sooner. Having back to back babies like that had to thrown her hormones completely out of wack.

GirlGlobal (not verified)GirlGlobal (not verified) said:

Rosemary - that Dooce post is amazing! Only mothers who experienced those hormone changes could really understand how possible it is to lose yourself after a birth. Thanks, I enjoyed reading it!!

Whichever it is thank God she is getting the proper assessment and help..obviously something serious is going on. It could even be a combination of the three--bipolar, self-medicated with drugs and alcohol, both exacerbated by PPD or PP psychosis. I have to say I never thought Kevin was a monster until he started acting as if he was trying to take the kids away for money. I hope he sticks by her and they both get themselves together to reunite their family. Get well Britney, WE LOVE YOU
