Oh my goodness! Did you watch the MTV Real World San Diego season? Remember Frankie, the punk girl with cystic fibrosis? Well, she passed away in her home with her mother by her side. How very sad…
Frankie Abernathy, the punk rock-adoring former “Real World: San Diego” housemate whose struggle with cystic fibrosis helped to further raise national awareness about the chronic lung disease, died Saturday evening in her mother Abbie Hunter’s Shorewood, Wisconsin, home. An official cause of death has yet to be determined; Abernathy was 25.
According to Hunter, Abernathy was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis – ” a hereditary disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive tract – ” at the age of 3. She is survived by a sister, Mamie; her mother; stepfather Perry, and her dad, Joe Abernathy, who now resides in Texas.
“It was very sudden,” her mother said. “It wasn’t something that was expected. She was doing fine, and we really don’t know very much yet. It still was kind of a shock, and it just wasn’t how we figured things would go. It seems like her little body just gave out.”

She was such an awesome chick. I loved that RW season! R.I.P babycakes.
this is such a shock..i watched her and she was cool.
and to anonymous…dont try to be bad-ass behind a computer. she lived her life the way she wanted to and thats what matters. she knew she wasnt going to be here long and she enjoyed what time she had.
So sad. I was actually just talking about that season of the Real World the other day with a friend and we were talking about her. How terrible, you watch them on tv, so you feel like you know them…

I watched, too. I always felt so bad because she had a hard time on there.
How awful.
Poor thing
I hope that she rests in peace. Her body gave her so many problems–can you imagine being cooped up in a house with TOTAL strangers while you have a deadly disease?! No thanks!
