All You Need Is Veggies?

Vegetarian Paul McCartney wants to help stop global warming through vegetables! The Uk's Mirror is reporting that Sir Paul made the following earth saving statement after the Live Earth concert performances in London last weekend.

"Livestock farming is one of the biggest destroyers of the planet.
"When you see the Amazon being cut down for hamburger cattle, that's pretty obvious."

I must say that Paul is one of those celebrities that walks the walk when it comes to what he believes. But what do you think about giving up a tasty burger for the sake of global warming?

Paul is not a vegetarian, he´s a vegan and he´s right, livestock production is responsible for the release of more greenhouse gases than every car or suv or pickup-truck on the planet.

And for me, it´s a matter of compassion too.

Humans are omnivores for a reason. We need protein to live. Ever notice the craving for meat is much stronger then the craving for veggies? Veggies are great but so is meat. There is no way I would give it up.

I have been vegetarian my whole life and I have never had a craving for meat. If I smell it cooking it makes me feel sick. I think its abit to do with conditioning. And if that is true, then we can break free from our conditioning and choose the path which is better for the planet, better for our bodies and better for the animals. I get more than enough protein from the food that I eat.

Hi! I wrote a paper about the environmental toll of factory farming and animal agriculture in college. There are some STAGGERING facts about the amount of land, water, and air pollution created by this industry (cows raised for meat produce MILLIONS OF TONS OF METHANE - a greenhouse gas). Seriously, eating meat, particularly red meat and pork, is about the single worst thing you can do for the environment. And to the commenter below me, the "farmer loses" thing is a common myth. Factory farms are COMPLETELY different from family farms, and create INFINITELY more pollution. Common farmers do not destroy rainforests to create grazing land - factory farms do. And let me tell you, the bigwigs behind factory farms do not wear a straw hat and carry a pitchfork. They are the among richest, greediest men in the world.
