Nickelodeon Considering Airing A Special About Sex And Love

Looks like Nickelodeon's PR team is working overtime trying to think of innovative ways to spin this whole Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy scandal. Us Magazine is reporting that there might be a special focusing on sex and love hitting the airwaves sooner than later.
Veteran newswoman Linda Ellerbee, who has done shows before on the network, would host, the Associated Press reports. "I think it's important that something be done," she said.
Is it Nickelodeon's place to teach our children about sex and love? Or has this gone too far?

I too think that it is a good idea. Children arent learning that sex is an act of love, they are learning the technical terms. They need to understand what it all means. I think its wonderful Nickelodeon is going to try to instil that. If only more parents did too.
how about a special on statutory rape
Sorry, *than* with their parents.
"Is it Nickelodeon’s place to teach our children about sex and love? Or has this gone too far?"
Unfortunately I think it is...alot of parents are afraid for whatever reason to talk to their kids about sex let alone relationships.
We ( my husband and I =) do our share by communicating to both our girls not only about sex but relationships.
All the young women?? Are the young men not at fault here? I do think that having Linda speak would be good and reiterate the need to talk to the parents.
too far.
It seems a long, long time ago (about 25 years ago, in fact) when Nick was so sweet, innocent, and approved by the National Education Association. *sigh*
This is just free publicity for Nickelodeon, and they are eating it up. Just another way for them to make money. Screw the kids who watch the show, just keep those bucks rolling in.
I think that a special on teen pregnancy is the right thing to do. I grew up watching Degrassi Junior High (dating myself, LOL) and they showed everything from teen pregnancy (Spike had a baby at 14) to buying condoms and dealing with your parents. Kids today need reality and not this candy coated fakery that these "tween" shows specialize in. Parents need to talk to their children about these issues of course, but TV can also play a healthy and informative role in shaping our youth.
I grew up on after school specials, what happened to them? We need to go back to the basics and be honest with ourselves about what kids really face in the day to day.
Its good because even when kids see the commercials about it, they may start asking their parents. Forcing the conversation... making it an issue parents will HAVE to address with their kids instead of leaving it to schools or tv.
I agree with you there Vanessa, but you might get yelled at in a few comments here! My mom stayed home with us, and even though it meant a few sacrifices (ie, used furniture, thrift store coats, not eating out, etc.), my childhood was wonderful. I will do whatever it takes to raise my kids mySELF... (with my husband of course :)).
i say.maybe this is just the life she want."she is a cute babe...She was said to have a personal account on a millionaire&celebrity dating club
"wealthykiss.com"
with her hot pictures and blogs there.
This sex crap has gone way too far. First they give middle school kids the option of taking birth control. This chick is prego at 16, along with all the other young sluts. And now they want to do a sex and "love" special. These t.v ppl sure got their priorities straight. If anything they should cut the entire network for her silly stunt. I think Jamie being pregnant is definatly goning to influence young teens and the children who look up to her. Its not a happy joyful thing to be pregnant at 16. its a crying shame. Were are the chasity belts...?
StormyBliss, well said!
