Sheryl Crow Says "It's Like Christmas Every Day" With New Son Wyatt

LOVE HER! Sheryl Crow sat down with TV Guide to talk about her participation in the upcoming concert, A Home for the Holidays, airing tonight at 8PM EST on CBS.  She opened up about how she doesn't watch Idol (what?!), her new cd coming out in February and taking little Wyatt on the road.
---
TV Guide: This is your third time performing at this concert... .
Sheryl Crow: I love the premise. To me it's the perfect Christmas show, because it's about sharing love and family time, and all the wonderful things that I think Christmas is based on. It's wonderful to be a part of a show that is doing such great work.
TV Guide: Does it resonate even more this year, since you've adopted?
Crow: Absolutely. I've always believed that love is love, no matter what shape or size or color it comes in. But now to have experienced adopting a little boy and really knowing that I couldn't love [him] any deeper even if I had him myself, I think that's the story of adoption.
TV Guide: Do you see yourself as a role model, adopting as a single woman at 45?
Crow: I don't know. These decisions are such personal decisions, but if somebody else looks at it and says, "Well, she did it, I can do it," that's fantastic. But that never has or would weigh in to the decisions I've made.
TV Guide: How do you think you would fare if you were just starting out in today's music biz?
Crow: Oh my gosh. Well, it's hard to say. I know that right now, in this moment in our history, people are slower to discover music. It's much more about the wide immediate audience that a show like American Idol can bring. It's much more about writing music that's based in entertainment than it is lyric-oriented music. I wouldn't even have made it through the auditions for American Idol. [Laughs]
TV Guide: Are you an Idol fan?
Crow: I have not seen it. I don't really sit down and watch TV. I watch the evening news, NBC with Brian Williams, for 30 minutes, because it's just too much after a while and it desensitizes you. But on occasion I watch Grey's Anatomy.
TV Guide: What can you tell us about Detours, your new CD out in February?
Crow: The idea behind it is that throughout our lives we're taken on journeys that lead us away from who it is we see ourselves to be. But [often] those experiences will lead us back. In my personal life in the last three years, I've been on some journeys that have brought me to this point right here, where I'm a mom, I'm healthy, and I feel like I have much more insight.
TV Guide: You battled breast cancer in 2006. Did that contribute to the record at all?
Crow: It contributed to the way I look at my life now. I think those moments really dictate that you define or refine how it is that you want to live the rest of your life. It certainly did for me. It taught me about learning to say no and putting myself first.
TV Guide: How are you feeling now?
Crow: I'm doing great. I'm looking forward to playing new music, and having my son out on the road. He's already been [on tour] once, when he was like 4 weeks old. He slept most of the time, but he was great!
