I work on a psych unit at a nationally renowned hospital as a clinical social worker and it is important for the public to understand that a 3-day committed stay is mandatory in most states for people who are evaluated in the ER as a threat to self and/or others. In this case, it sounds like Ms. Spears may have expressed suicidal ideation and/or was psychotic. "Lock down" means that she is on a locked unit, which is common for most psychiatric units at a level I trauma center, like Cedars. After 3 days she will be evaluated and may be released if she is stable.

At any rate, I am empathetic to her current situation and wish her all the best on her road to recovery. She is safe in the hospital and I hope her treatment there is successful.

I am praying for Britney. I am desperately hoping that it turns around from here. I hope she gets a lot of help and her family understands that she NEEDS THEM IN HER LIFE!! This is so sad, I want her to be better!!

I agree. She needs peace. I just want to hug her and help her figure all this out.

I am saddened by what this has all come down to, but I am also happy for the kids. Of course no child should be without their mother, but no child should ever have to deal with a mother who is THAT unstable. I just cant understand what would make her go SO CRAZY.... We all knew there was something wrong, but from the pictures I didnt think it was THAT BAD. Wow.. I really do hope she gets better. I miss the sane Britney.

I, too, feel sorry for Britney and hope she will finally get the kind of attention that she clearly needs- not just media attention. But I have to disagree with Babsido who said:

"no parent deserves to have their kids taken away from them"

Unfortunately, that is the very necessary consequence when the safety and well-being of the children is at risk. There is no reason why Britney will not be able to enjoy visitation and shared custody if and when she regains her mental health through professional help.

The best thing Britney could do for herself and her boys is to stop worrying about her "comeback" and seek a real life away from the limelight so she can be a proper mother.

she was self destroying way before they took the kids, remember when she shaved her head and was acting all sorts of crazy, cooch shots, and she had 100% full custody then. she has been unraveling for sometime now.

I feel for her. She seems to have some problems that only therapy and meds can help her ovr come. I should know it worked for me. Last august I got t a point where I was tired ofevrybody talking at me not to me so I had a break down. My kis were then remoed from my home. It took 2 months and extensive daily thearpy to get them back.
I only had 5 people in my face everyday SHE has the whole world. nobody should live life in a fish bowl. I really hope tht Brit will get the hep she needs and that our society can leave her alone long enough to.
