Heath’s family confirms the very tragic, untimely and accidental passing of our dearly loved son, brother and doting father of Matilda. He was found peacefully asleep in his New York apartment by his housekeeper at 3:30 p.m. U.S. time.
We would like to thank our friends and everyone around the world for their well wishes and kind thoughts at this time. Heath has touched so many people on so many different levels during his short life but few had the pleasure of truly knowing him.
He was a down to earth, generous, kind-hearted, life-loving and selfless individual who was extremely inspirational to many. Please now respect our family’s need to grieve and come to terms with our loss privately.

I just can’t stop thinking about this. The more information is leaked, the more it is being made clear that this was an accident.Walking pneumonia paired with sleeping pills is apparently not a good combination. I am devastated. And I wish I could do something to help, but there is nothing to do. Just appreciate life, family and friends each day and be thankful. That’s what I am taking away from this.
He was 28, an amazing talent and he will always be remembered.
I am so saddened to hear this news, when I first saw it last night I thought that it was a sorry prank. He was a wonderfull actor who made me laugh and cry so manytimes with his heartfelt performances. My heart goes out to his family.

My heart sank upon hearing about this last night. I have always loved Heath and I am so so sad. Everyone, count your blessings more often!
with everything i read it just brings a tear to my eye. it is so sad
also that the reason he was having problems sleeping due to his role as the joker giving him nightmares. ugh

Thanks Becky. I wasnt trying to be a smartass it was a genuine question. On another site I read that Helena Christensen said she was on her way to see him when she found out. So maybe he just collapsed and died before anyone found him. From experience I can tell you that an inconclusive autopsy will be so very hard on the family and friends.
