My 2008 New Year’s resolution was to say yes to more things that get thrown at me. More times than not, I decline movie premieres, interviews and industry events. Well, that was the old me. This year I am going to anything that gets emailed to me because I just had a blast at Lenny Kravitz’s concert tonight.
I wrote a quote from Lenny a few weeks ago about how he is abstaining from sex. That day I got an email from a rep asking me to cover his concert in town. I said absolutely because this is the year for change. Driving there tonight in the downpour that hit Manhattan, I was regretting that decision. I just wanted to be home playing Warcraft (yes, I am a computer nerd) on the couch while watching some show we had logged on Tivo. But once we got into the theatre and to our seats (thank goodness they gave me a seat!!), my energy reappeared! The opening act was AWESOME. I am very much into quirky folky female singers. Lissy was her name and she stole my heart. Here is her MySpace page. Listen to the song Hey Boy. I LOVE IT!!Intermission and then Lenny came out rocking hard. It was so AMAZING. I became euphoric and was really surprised at how many songs I knew from him. It was funny because every single song made either Bill or I go, “Oh yeah! I forgot about that one!”Poor boy was really sick though. After two or three songs he said, “I have a 102 fever. But I’m up here ’til I drop.” The crowd went NUTS. Lenny was such a trooper. The energy he gave to each song was electrifying. And his guitarist was unreal. Who is that guy?! The crowd didn’t know what to do with themselves during his solo. And in what quite possibly was the most random moment of the evening, during the show Lenny screamed out, “Where are my Brazilian girls at?!” First all the ladies were woo-hooing, but then everyone stopped and registered what he said. And he didn’t even follow up with other nationalities. It was just Brazilian. Guess he has a thing for that country.
In the end, I highly suggest checking out his album, It’s Time for a Love Revolution. It was a great show and all of his new songs are just as good as his old ones.PS – right before the show ended, he walked through the crowd with two bodyguards which I thought that was really cool. Sorry about the poor quality of the picture, but it was quick and dark. I could have pounced on him had my husband not been there with me to witness.
And before I end this post, I have to talk about this girl. She kept her arm up for the full concert. Sometimes two arms! At one point, I was just watching her to see if she would give up. But she never did. It was almost unreal.
