I wish to God that my dad spoke Spanish to my brother and me, but he didn't grow up with it. Hopefully I can pick it up because I want my kids to speak Spanish. I don't even want them to speak English for maybe the first two to three years, until pre-school. We're in the United States so they're going to learn it anyway.

Unless she keeps her child at home for the first three years and only speaks Spanish around it there will be a good chance that it speaks English first.

I mean, she did say this was the USA, we speak ENGLISH, not spanish, unless she really is retarded and thinks the USA speaks Spanish....we really need to stop spending our money for people who come to our country and want us to pay for them to learn english...If I went to Italy and lived there, I would pick up Italian or if I went to France I would pick up French and not EXPECT the government to pay for it.....all these people think that the US government should just pay for everything, well actually we the people are paying for everything. I didn't have to take any special classes to learn English. People should know that little kids pick up a language faster than an adult. My little cousin has been living for a year and a half and not started school and already knows pretty good English. If you mean people that just move here as a teen, than its not their fault, its not like whole world knows English. Get out of the little box you live in.

If only she realized that children can pick up multiple languages if exposed to them frequently from an early age. A child does not become confused when several languages are spoken in a home. And by school age her kid could be fluent in both.
