Nicole Richie And Joel Madden Buy An East Coast Condo

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden have just purchased a "tiny" two bedroom apartment in N.Y.C. for $999,999 (why didn't they just put the price at a simple one mil, I have no idea). The home is 1,000-square-foot in a very trendy neighborhood, but it's "very simple," and Nicole has made it clear to Joel that L.A. is her home. A friend said,

The apartment, "will be convenient for traveling, but this is not a permanent thing."

I think it's true what they say, once a West Coast girl always a West Coast girl. And same thing with East Coast. The two sides of the U.S. are so different that most people have a pretty strong preference on where they'd rather live.  Do you have your loyalties, or would you be happy living anywhere?

L.A. and NYC are both great to visit, but I would never want to live in either place. NEVER.

If you forced me to choose, I am not sure what I would do...?

Having lived on both coasts, in the dirty-dirty and the midwest, I still call MS home, although I do love those long, cold winters.

I love to visit the east coast, but I love the weather here in Calif. The people on the west coast are warm and more easy going. You can wear sandals and skirts and flip flops all year long. The mall here is outside and overlooks the ocean. So nice!

But....in NYC you can get great fashion items for really good prices and months before they make it here. Public transportation is soooo easy there. Here, I am a slave to my car!

i definitley like west coat weather better, but i think people are little more hardworking on the east coast and a little more real. although a ton of entertainment is on the west coast so i would love to have a house in LA a nice aparment in maybe NY. but i think east coast will always be my "roots"

but really, im torn

I totally hate living in Michigan for the most part so yea, I would totally move somewhere right away if I could. But... I would come back every once in a while for camping in the summer.

Totally a west coast girl stuck in east coast. I can imagine why Nicole is reluctant to call the MY apartment her home. Somehow the warmth of home is lacking here.

B/c in NYS, any sale over $1m is assesses a "mansion" tax of 1% of sales price. That $1 saved the seller $10,000.

I was born and raised in Chicago and that is where parents and aunts and uncles are. I moved to Colorado 2 yrs after I got married and have been here ever since. I am loyal to Colorado, not Illinois. If I did move anywhere else, it would have a warmer climate, like Hawaii.

The apartment is priced that way b/c in NY there is a "mansion tax" that you have to pay on any purchse $1,000,000 and over. A lot of apartments get priced that way to avoid the tax.

Im an East Coast Girl.. born and raised. I have been to LA many times and just couldnt relate to the general pretentiousness that exists in the majority of people I met. Although, that might just be LA and not all of the west coast. I do have to say when you compare the tv show real housewives of NY/OC the CA woman look much more youthful and not as "hard" But they also talk behind eachothers back and are very catty whereas NY tells you how it is to your face. It really is like watching two different world in this show. anyone watch it?

Born in LA/OC, lived in NYC and San Francisco. While I loved my experience in NYC, I am happy to call SF my home. I am a West Coast girl that loves to camp, hike, snowboard, and surf. You can have all that within 3 hours here. People in NYC are just not into outdoorsy stuff.

I was raised in Orange County, CA--Did NOT watch that OC show once! LOL! Now a Bay Area gal--Yes, I am TRUE to my WEST COAST roots! Although, I really enjoy visiting the East Coast. Baltimore, MD is a FUN city....
