Emma Watson At The Automat

Even though Emma Watson officially turned 18 on the 15th of this month she enjoyed "celebrating" Saturday at the Automat in London. The drinking laws in the UK are different then here. The legal drinking age is 18 which means cross over stars like Joss Stone and Emma Watson must have a hard time when coming State side. What do you all think should 18 year olds be allowed to drink legally, or is it safer sticking with 21?Personally, I don't think people in the UK have a harder time with their youth because of the lower age than the US does with 21 as the age. But by reading a few of the comments below, it seems there is a greater issue I was unaware of.

Um, college kids are drinking too Vera. They get fake IDs and party it up. So although the age is 21 in the US, we still have a problem with under age kids wanting to drink waaaay before.

The drinking age in Canada alternates from 19 to 18 across the provinces. It starts in BC at 19 and alternates from there, just to correct the few people who said the age is mostly 19.

And just look at Skandinavia, the only country where u can by alcohol everywhere, not only in the special stores owned by the goverment,is Denmark and is the country with less alcohol problems among Iceland,Norway,Sweeden and Finland,so...the more u forbid something is for the worse.

Just to clarify, its not every province in Canada that you have to buy beer only from the "beer store". In Quebec and Newfoundland ( and maybe more but Im not positive ) you can buy beer in any corner store. Liquor must be bought at the Liquor store tho.

I think that having a legal drinking age is mostly to keep 16 year olds out of bars....but other than thats its useless.
in ontario (canada) its 19 and ive always thought that it was way lame that you can go to iraq and kill people in the name of our freedom and all that and come home and not have a beer.

If your old enough to vote and serve in the military than I think your old enough to drink. My parents allowed me to drink on occasion when I was 18. When I turned 21 drinking was not a big deal to me. I was more excited to go gamble in Vegas :)

I agree with Jamie. If you are "mature" enough to make decisions on who should be the next president, or the decision to sign up for the Army and possibly die for your country, then you should be mature enough to drink. I know that I was very mature when I was 18. I am 26, have never been drunk and have never driven a car after drinking. I think we all have had a few sips before we were 21, I remember drinking on occassion when I was in high school.

I live in the UK and it should not be compared with the rest of europe. There is a hudge "binge drinking" culture ruling over Britains youth. Teens as young as 12 go to parks and get drunk on a regular basis and think they are having a good time. I am 16 and many in my class go out at the weekend and get totally wasted. The culture of responsible drinking in the rest of europe is a far cry from the reality in the UK. I dont think the drinking age should be highered but i do believe the concept of responsible drinking in this country should be drilled into the kids. I dont want to be part of a generation labelled the "binge drinkers". Its the minority in the UK that give all young people the bad name.

I luv emma watson and i think she can handle anything that goes her way, CHILL PEOPLE!

have to agree with upper post: chill, guys. I don't think it matters where you are and if you are LEGALLY allowed to drink, no teenager sticks to those rules anyway.

you get good and bad in all cultures: regardless of the drinking age. It makes no difference whether the drinking age is 18 in the UK, 21 in america or something different anywhere else, you're going to get people, youths particularly, who are going to go out and get 'wasted' because its illegal, and they can. If parents introduce alcohol to their children at a younger age, i think this will HELP to stop binge drinking, but won't stop it completely. Like i said, good and bad in all cultures. As for Emma, she's 18, and in the UK thats legal. As long as you're careful, there's not a whole lot that can be done otherwise. hehe x x
