Miley Cyrus Watches "Sanitized" Version Of Sex And The City

Aside from the big Vanity Fair picture scandal that's been going on recently, Miley Cyrus was also criticized when she said that Sex and the City is her favorite show. But sources that know the family are saying that Miley is only allowed to watch a "sanitized" version of SATC.

"The show she watches is completely sanitized. She watches it on TBS," says a source close to Cyrus. (TBS airs an edited-for-TV version of the iconic series.) "[Miley's mom] Tish doesn't allow HBO in the house. They only have basic cable."

But even if they edit it for TV, unless they take out some major story lines, a lot of the main plots are about sex! I don't really see how they could sanitize that...
Is 15 too young to be watching SATC or is it really not a big deal at all?

I think 15 is too young to be watching SATC whether it's edited or not.

I started watching Soaps and shows like Family which contain tons of adult content when I was 11 or 12. My Mom watched them with me and answered any questions I had while watching them. I didn't turn out to be a whore or something. Sex is everywhere. It's the parents responsibility to put it in perspective for their kids. This whole, "Don't talk about sex because it will only lead to your children having sex" is idiotic.

Flower Flower said:

For people that are thirty and up... they think 15 is way too young, but the TBS is version is like watching Friends or Gossip Girl. All those shows talk about "adult issues" and they're watching. I did in high school.

lis lis said:

I don't think it is too young. I have met a lot of girls that age who know what SATC is.. and frankly, you trying telling a teenage girl she's "too young" to watch something! haha! That's just asking for her to find a different way around how to get access to it.

I'd rather find out that the girls are watching it and asking questions and that their parents/adults around them are openly answering these questions.. rather than them ducking around rules and searching out stuff they're going to watch anyway and assuming everything they see to be "right", "good" and "normal".

This whole Miley Cyrus thing is being blown WAY out of proportion. Sex is EVERYWHERE. She is 15 for crying out loud, the girl has hormones...to say that "back in my day we never did things like this" is ridiculous. Our society is way too conservative. If sex wasn't such a hush hush thing like we try to make it this wouldn't be such a big deal. In Europe you see naked women on regular television and it's no big deal...

15 imo is not too young at all!!! watching television shows that are as "clean" as sex and the city (you could hardly ever see nipples in that show) is totally normal for a teenager - you start being interested in sexuality around 10 or 11 years old and television at that age does not effect your own behavior all too much. kids can actually learn from satc - for example about birth control and a self-determined way of dealing with your own sexuality, doing something only if you really want to do it, etc.
also, and this is from my own experience, knowing a lot about sexuality can actually cause kids to wait a little longer, because they don't feel pressurized to find out about certain things themselves in order to participate in certain conversations. they can participate in talking about sex without having to do it themselves, which i think is very important at that age.

I totalllyy agree with Marissa and TGH.

I am 15 and I watch SATC. And I didn`t just start watching it. My mom knows I watch it and doesn`t have anything against it. If you try to escape the issue of sex or when you ask your parents and they don`t give you an upfront answer that just makes you want to know what it is (or atleast the details, seeing as how almost all 15 year olds know what sex i) even more. The more people don`t want to talk about, and the more people are uncomfortable about the situation the more interesting it makes it.

And F.Y.I Miley Cyrus is not a slut for taking those pictures. Maybe we are growing up a little too fast, but that is how it is these days. I know girls that have done way worse, then take pictures with their boyfriends. Which by the way didn`t have any nudity or anything like that in them at all.

Why is everyone ripping apart Miley Cyrus. Watchin SATC at 15 is not too young, I am 15 and watch it also. And so do most of my friends. We were also going to see the movie, but it is rated R so we have to figure out a way to get in! Also about the Vanity Fair photo shoot, it is not like Miley's 10 year old and below fan base reads that anyway, so wat is the difference. Yea people above that age may read that mag, but those kids are surrounded by half naked pics and sex all the time! Everyone should get a life, and stop worrying about another 15 year old's life.

Ok why are you watching SATC @ 15? That show is for older women in thier 30's. How is any of the storyline even relatable to you? I am 21 and I didnt watch SATC when it was on. It wasnt interesting.

I can see how like OTH, The OC, and GG could be. I love GG. Those shows are about teens, not about single women in the city. So I dont think she should be watching it. I dont get it point of it for a 15 year old.

WOW, the media needs to BACK OFF MILEY. Yes, she's 15. She's doing what 15 year olds do. Whats important is that she has 2 loving parents united in participating in her life. They are taking an active roll in her carreer and the way she's being raised. I watched soaps with my mom as a kid, I watched the Simpsons and Friends as a teenager. I've never watched SATC cause Im not really partial to SJP, but from what I've heard it's pretty much the same.
As for the Vanity Fair shoot, well I can see how things might have seemed innocent at the time. I saw pictures of the photo shoot and I can totally see how it might have seemed artistic and elegant at the time. As they say "Hind-sight is 20-20". Looking back, they realize how everyone else who wasnt at the photo shoot sees it.
What it comes down to is this. I dont think there has ever been a teen idol quite as big as Miley. She's in new territory. And there are no guides as to how to keep a squeaky clean image. She's still a teenager and will still make teenage mistakes. As long as her parents are there giving her guidance (and Im not talking about the Lynn Spears kind of guidance) everything will be ok, and she'll turn out to be a terrific young woman.

As a mom of two girls the youngest who has just left being a teen - I would like to say what a great lesson SATC was for me and my girls. Even if you want your kids to be educated - starting a conversation about sex is uncomfortable. We never watched it on HBO but we have watched it over and over again on DVD and let me tell you there isn't a sex subject that hasn't come up - because of this show. I wish my mom had had this tool! I have two very smart and wonderful young ladies who make me proud everyday.
I don't know if 15 is too young - sometimes it is not the age but the maturity you need to look at. And it definitely is not my call to make for Miley.

Does anyone remember watching 90210 when they were 15. Yes is wasn't about adults living in a city, but the major story lines did deal with sex and relationships. I think Hollywood is out to get Miley right now, and I hope she is strong enough to just ride it out.

Does anyone actually remember what it was like to be 15!?
I am eternally grateful that camera phones etc. weren't around back then
I got up to so much naughtiness and at 24 have turned out just fine.
I think everyone is blowing this whole Miley thing WAY out of proportion!

Poor Miley; right now the girl can't move without getting critiqued. Sex and the City is not too young for a 15-year old. I think most teenagers know what sex is. If they don't, they should. I'm not suggesting in any way that teenagers should be sexually active but they should be aware of it.
I agree with #16 & #17. We absolutely watched 90210 as teens and turned out just fine.

I just turned 16 and I've been watching SATC since i was about 14. My sister has it all on DVD and i couldn't find anything to watch one night so i started to watch it and got hooked. My mum knows i watch it she has no problem what so ever about me watching stuff like that cause she knows me and trusts me

and in the UK SATC is rated 15

I totally agree with Vera. How can you sanitize SATC? Unless you rewrite the whole script!!! Ridiculous.

Are you kidding me...didn't we just see advertisement for a teen show on this website with two kids making out and OMFG printed in big letters???? Geez everyone needs to leave this girl alone...she needs to grow up like a normal kid without people picking on all of her choices.

I hate to be labeling someone but if something smell like shit it is shit. I do not follow Miley life at all, just read and watch TV. She is a slut in a making and will have major diva fits in a future. Very sad that sexuality is used as a major point for women to catapult them into fame or notoriety. And here we are not even talking a woman-we are talking a 15 yr old girl! Her parents must definitely milk her for money. Child stars live in a sad world-constantly controlled by greedy parents who want to make more and more and lose any decency in a process. I know I might sound crazy but I believe Hollywood needs to set earning limit, irregardless of success, for child stars. We are not talking about cutting their wages from $10/hr to $5/hr. Instead of signing contracts for 2, 000,000 she can sign it for $200,000, make a movie for $50,000 etc with some fine tuning. These will reduce exploitation by parents, create selfish kids, and they will still be better off than 98% of children financial wise in this country. They will have ENOUGH for college, living in a fancy apartment, anbd once they are 18, or 21 they can be making millions-nothing can stop them.
ps. she might wear make up have breasts, sex, or drive a car--but at 15 very few kids (and she is not that one) are mature enough. And remember she is 15 now, last year she was 14, and before 13...it did not just start today

elina elina said:

Hmmm..sex and the city...well series is sarcastic about women sexuality and life when it comes to dating. This is not for 15 yrs olds. It is for women who have dated, frustruted, and pocking fun at themselves, maybe sometimes they are bitter....It is not about a life of 15yr old girls, not even about 21yr olds... I am not saying 21 yr olds should not be watching it, but if at 21 their lifestyle is similar to Sex and the City characters,, they might be aging too fast for their own good. Each decade has something special for a woman to enjoy...I am not saying you change as you age but in tees women are not the same as in their 20ies, and in 30ies women have different priorities, and so on. If from a decade to decade your perspectives did not change....you should seek psychiatric evaluation...Precaucious, empty shelled Hollywood children are just scary..like a crop that is grown and wilted all in a weeks period, no blooms no fragrance....

Elina, if you dont follow her life and only read the tabs about her, you only know half the story. By your own admission, your view is based on what the tabs WANT you to think. Her parents are very involved in her life, and it has nothing to do with money. Her parents had money LONG before Miley ever made a dime.
Second, your assumption that only people with lifestyles similar to the series should be watching it is ridiculous! I have 95% NOTHING in common with nearly EVERYTHING I watch on TV. It's fantasy! Thats the whole point! If she's watching TBS, big whoop! I dont think the fact she watches SATC automatically makes her "a slut in a making" as you put it.
If you dont agree with her choices, fine, but dont label someone you dont even know a slut based on incorrect/incomplete information. It really shows your own narrow mindedness and ignorance.

People are so busy trying to find fault with Miley Cyrus they haven't quite clued in yet that their own kids are up in their rooms with the web cam on flashing their bits all over cyber space. For those of you who are shocked by the Vanity Fare pictures.. click on any single site frequented by teens--my space, facebook, live journal, nexopia and have a look. You are going to see stuff far more racier than a bare back and shoulders. Quit trying to predict her downfall and get off your pious pedestals to join the human race.

SATC is not appropriate for young teens. Most of the original episodes contain nudity and frank sexual discussion. And not "this is where babies come from" talk. The TBS episodes are better, because so much is cut out. But how can these teens even relate to the show? Some things need to come with age and experience, not tv. For me, it's more of a general dissapointment in today's society reguarding how sex is presented to the public. We wonder why so many young girls are still getting pregnant, still contracting STDs. We're horrified at all the explicit photos of young girls on the internet and the way it's become acceptable for them to wear next to no clothing. They are being told on a day to day basis that is is the desirable way to be. I don't want to come down on you young people here, SATC is a brillant show and I can understand wanting to see it, but it's written and aimed at adults. There's even an episode dealing with all this stuff! Watch the one where Miranda gets braces. I don't know why Miley or her people or whomever felt the need to announce it is her favorite show, it's almost like saying, " I'm a big girl, see, I love this show!!!" We set up our youth shoving sexuality in their faces then tear them down when they act out in an adult way.

Alisha May Alisha May said:

One more thing- you CANNOT compare 90210 to SATC! Those 2 shows couldn't be more different. Brenda debating on whether to lose her virginity is a world away from Miranda debating whether she should lick her latest's fling's butt.
