I don’t know about him. I felt the beginning was fake too, and I agree that he was dodging some of her questions. I would have liked to see Kat(i)e as part of the conversation as well. I think she said “I’m taking the kids into town.” Do you really think she even left the house?
I was close to tears because I felt for him. When he said you can say bad things about him but when its my family especially his daughter being deformed and Rosemary’s baby that is off the charts.
I watched about 10 minutes of the “interview”. It felt so fake and forced. Blech. I wanted it to make me feel differently about him but it didn’t. It made my dislike for Oprah even stronger, though.
I thought it was a great interview. Can you imagine living under a microscope like he does? Think of all the things in our own personal lives that are allowed to be private and in his not so much. Thanks for posting it Vera.

I think tom conducted this interview to the best of his ability…im sure he is sick of seeing and talking about things that happened last year….imagine every move you make being judged and dissected…he has a beautiful house and family and seems like he appreciates it.
What you are seeing here is Mr Cruise in damage control, trying to convince the public that he really is a nice, normal family man. The whole thing was so contrived. And why didn’t his wife take part in the interview? By the way, I love you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really think he tried his best to show his true self. I felt so badly for him when he was talking about the Suri rumors. You can tell he is a great dad and loves his children.
But he did dodge some of the questions and flip-flopped on some of his past statements. I think he looked great though, and his home is very beautiful.
I’m starting to change my view of Tom after seeing the video. I used to think he was pretty wacko, but I’m beginning to realize how the media can put a negative spin on things. I’ve been swept away with love like that before and I would have been jumping on a couch if I had the chance. Lucky for me, my private moments aren’t made public and twisted into some conspiracy theory about gay alien babies with beards.
There are so many thoughts running through my head after watching….is their marriage real? What happened to sweet Katie? She seems so out of it. And most importantly…I am from Colorado, I frequent Telluride and once upon a time I went to Oprah’s house there. She wasn’t there of course, it was a someone knew someone who knew someone and we were able to soak in her hot tub. Don’t tell me that she has never been to Tom’s house. They are practically neighbors and they are both celebrities. I am sure that was not her first time seeing scripts or his lovely kitchen. I beg to differ…..

This interview is careful – he is walking on eggshells. As he should. I think he is a bit nutty – but being under a microscope will do that to a person. I still like him. And will never get tired of seeing that risky business dance.

Although I will always think the whole scientology thing is for wacko’s and he is an ego maniac I still believe he is a good person that loves his family and just wants to protect them. I think Katies ” I Love you’s” in the beginning were sincere and showed that she was concerned for him and showing her support for the interview. I do the same thing if my husband has a big day at work. I do think that he was dancing around some questions… all he really needed to say is that he f#%*ed up and he is sorry.

I must say I LOVE that house.. It’s so cute! But yeah, I noticed that a few times that Tom “danced” around the question he started to say something, but Oprah cut him off with another comment. So it’s not like he didn’t TRY to answer..he was just moving on.
“What do you want to do? We’ll just do it. That’ll be it.”
“Kate showed up. She loves sugar. Katie showed up with cupcakes so it was instant reality.”

I agree with those of you who said it seemed fake. Clearly, the beginning scene with Katie leaving was set-up so that viewers could see their “normal” interactions with each other. The cupcake thing was all-around very strange. And as for the interview, many of his answers were really vague, and just seem contrived. When he told stories, they didn’t seem to flow well – very choppy. Maybe he’s just not a good storyteller, but I can’t help but thinking some of it was made up. Overall, it didn’t feel real.
I love the family….its the lowlives here that creeps me out and I feel deepy sorry for.

I just feel like “Kate” being there at the beginning, the comments about his other kids (who we generally think of as pushed off to the side), and the discussion about Scientology… I feel like it was all sooooo contrived, sooooo “damage control,” like another poster said. OF COURSE he’s going to sit there NOW and have a calm, metered talk with Oprah, trying to prove how “normal” he is.
The whole couch thing WAS a little crazy, but that wasn’t the turn-off for me. What freaked me out was the Scientology video of him in the black turtleneck, rambling on and on incoherently. THIS video doesn’t undo THAT, in my mind, despite his trying to backtrack.
Tom Cruise is a phenomenal actor and I’ve enjoyed nearly all of his performances, just not this one.
And for all of you asking WHY we “haters” (I am NOT) would watch this, well it’s because we were maybe hoping for some clarity on Tom’s behavior, or maybe to be convinced that he’s still the guy that won our hearts as Joel Goodson and Maverick. It isn’t our fault that he’s not.
I think that in the final analysis Yes, Tom Cruise is affected by Hollywood and his religious beliefs. He is not the boy next door. What we see as fake is their reality. He tried being real and every lambasted him, now he is trying to tone it down so that people will recognize him as an actor again, not his private life.
Give it up haters. If everyone was all the same the world would be boring. Tom Cruise has the right to worship how he wants and have his own opinions on psychiatry and drugs. Don’t we all have our own opinions?? The man has spent years making movies that entertain us and make us happy. Leave him alone.

There are many doctrines of the Roman Catholic Church which I passionately disagree with. Scientology is more accurately defined as a cult than a religion anyway. Their attitude towards modern medicine and psychiatry in particular is open to question. Remember the other time Mr Cruise went into damage control after he criticized Brooke Shields for taking anti-depressants when she suffered post-natal depression? Many tragedies have occurred when people with severe psychiatric illnesses have been denied medication due to the doctrines of Scientology, and suffered violent psychotic episodes as a result. Also the approach of the cult is one of indoctrination with a very close check being kept on members. As Mr Cruise has set himself up as a spokesperson and very vocal member of the Scientology cult, then he has also set himself up for criticism. The interview was nothing more than a publicity stunt to convince the public (and perhaps Hollywood powerbrokers) that he and his family live a happy, normal existence. I bet that’s as long as everyone tows the line and conforms to his beliefs! Have a read about Scientology and what they believe. Some of it is literally “out of this world” – pun intended!

I think a lot of things said about him are untrue, but some are most likely true. I don’t know how much the Scientology video was edited but one thing I do know is that this interview was also edited…All of them are.
I am sure he loves his family and wants a normal life. I am don’t think anything is normal about Scientology and I have read quite a bit about it. It is a very strange cultish type of religion. Opera’s church is also rather bizarre as well.
I do wish them all well and no one deserves to be hunted down like a dog but at the same time when you are in show business it unfortunately comes with the territory. And when you do strange things that attract attention like jump on couches…what do you expect?

#77 – Tom Cruise is not “hunted like a dog”. He puts himself out there to be photographed. There are a ZILLION places to go eat other than Cut, The Ivey, and Joans on Third. These are all hangouts for the paparazzi and other celebrities so anyone that goes there knows beforehand what will happen.
It is a well know fact that his publicist calls the paps in advance to let them know when and where he is going. He is not the only one….many celebrities do this. It’s call PR (public relations if you didn’t know). He also drags Suri around all hours of the day and night because celebrity kids attract a helluva lot more attention and photos.
Oprah needs to start reading and researching before she makes statements like “hunted like a dog”. And Tom agreed with her. Pathetic!!!

I have no doubt that the whole interview was a huge damage control publicity stunt. Any actor who does a highly advertised 2 part (or is it 3) interview with one of the biggest television personalities doesn’t do it because they want the public to leave them alone. They do it to draw attention and in Tom’s case, he feels desperate because his fan base has shrunk and his recent movies and Katie’s have flopped. He needs to repair the damage caused by his diarrea of the mouth. The ploy will work with the die hard Cruise fans but everybody else still won’t be impressed. I personally don’t give much credit to someone who follows a so called “religion” that was created by a science fiction writer and who believes that he is an alien sent to the earth to dwell amongst those of us who are also apparently aliens, but far less superior. The guy is a certifiable delusional nut but I think there are many actors who are in their own little selfish “I’m king of the world” type of la la land. It is those quirks that make them famous. Anybody ever wonder where they came up with the idea for Men In Black? Seems like an exaggerated (or maybe not so exaggerated) version of what Scientologists believe. Sure makes for a great movie.
I would also like to point out how Oprah has become very full of herself. How many people would create a magazine and use pictures of themself for every cover. I’ve never seen a famous person so openly in love with themself as Oprah is with herself. I use to watch her back in the 80′s when she was just trying to make it. She seemed geniune back then but now the love of money has replaced anything admirable. I’m still trying to figure out what the point was for the show “Oprah’s Big Give” or whatever that show was called. It like “ooh I have an idea, lets find the poor downtrodden, exploit them, buy them a car that they will never have the money to pay the taxes on and show our goodness on TV…yeah, that will be great for ratings”, or another brain storm…”lets build a school for all girls in Africa (but only those girls we deem capable of succeeding and not already damaged) and let’s advertise it into the ground so that everybody will know that I am so great and wonderful”. Well you know what Oprah, I’d have more respect for you and more belief of your sincerity if you did things without having a camara there to record it. There are lots of wealthy people who give to good causes and if every one of them put themselves up as high as you do and put their generosity on TV like you do, we’d never want to watch TV again. Gag!
