Tom Cruise Tells Oprah He Has Been Misunderstood

Wow. Tom Cruise laid it all out on the line with Oprah. I think he saw this as his chance to clear the air and tell his side of the story for all the bad press he's been receiving lately. It's long, so let's just jump right in!
On the couch jumping incident:
"I just felt that way, and I feel that way about her. I can't even articulate it, to be honest," he adds. That feeling, that connection. Just who she is and what she means to me."
He says that what he said about Brooke Shield's post-partum depression "came out wrong," and that the incident brought the two closer:
"What I regret is even discussing Brooke in any way."
On Scientology:
"It's a minority religion, and I think that sometimes people misinterpret [it]. I think the best thing is for people to read about it themselves. I believe people have the right to choose what they believe in. The code of Scientologists says you respect the religious beliefs of others. That's part of being a Scientologist, and that's who I am as a person."
On the leaked video in which Tom talks about Scientology. He says it was stolen:
"I was receiving an award that evening for global literacy. It was a very private moment. I'm actually talking to my congregation. It's [taken] totally out of context."
On keeping Suri hidden for so long:
"We just want to have our baby, have the kids and everyone get to know Suri, get the family up here and just chill and have that time that you never get back. You don't ever get those moments back. Kate and I didn't feel any need to [rush] it. We said, 'Why? It's our family.' We just were on Suri time."
On his marriage to Katie being fake:
"That's laughable to me. You just know that they're trying to sell it and spin it."
On his reputation:
"Listen I, I feel like definitely things have been misunderstood, and there are things I could have done better. But then there's also that world where you go, 'Oh, it's been spun to such an extent that ... that's a truth also. Knowing when and where to communicate, I think that's important. A lot of times I was nervous giving interviews. Or I wasn't sometimes as comfortable about things. And I realized that it's okay. There's stuff you have to just let go. I just have to do the best I can."

I think the media makes him look a lot crazier than he really is. I don't have an issue with him and I hope he and Katie have a true long lasting relationship and stay happy.

Sorry, people are mean. The media has spun people into so many different things that how could you possibly judge someone that you dont know. The reason I love this site is that Vera, after trial and error, has decided to just write what she hears, not make stuff up. And if she's wrong she corrects it with an "update" not a delete.
YES, Scientology is not a mainstream religion but it is still his religion. Judge him on his acting skills not what the media tell youi what to believe.

I think that he has bought into a cult and so his perspective will always be suspect by me. The very fact that he associates himself with Scientology and actually believes the crap they feed them makes him laughable. He always says that Scientology is misunderstood and that everyone should read about it and I just have to ask what makes him think that the critics haven't read about it already? He is in a cult and is brainwashed and has a very controlling hand in spreading the crap.
So I'm sure Oprah gently pointed out to him that his behavior is absolutely nothing like a sane, heterosexual, fully-grown man... right?

What exactly does that mean? It sounds like he's saying there is some truth to everything thats been written.

scientology is not why i judge tom cruise-- he can believe whatever it is he wants. but i can't get over his sham of a life w/ his contractual marriage w/ katie and his inability to come out of the closet-- c'mon, tom! i'm routing for you, i really am! come out of the closet!!
Nope, he's still a weirdo. That Scientology video was downright disturbing. His crazy eyes, his wild and erratic comments. All that taken out of context?? I don't think so! THAT's the real Tom Cruise right there, in all his crazy glory. Of course he wants the public to portray him as a normal guy, why do you think he went back to Oprah? For his own good? No, to save his dying image. I think that's long gone now. Just like Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, he's classified as a freak by the public. Good luck trying to gain your reputation back, it's not going to happen.
By the way, Oprah looks so beautiful in that pic. She has a gorgeous smile.

He's a fine actor, articulate, intelligent and successful. I think people are simply jealous of the man. As far as the religion goes, it is a free country. You may observe a religion or not but don't think you know a person until you walk a mile in their shoes.

Im one of those people that actually isn't into any religion. i don't even know if i think god exists. I know what i was taught as a child and what i was told to believe in, but i have to see proof.

He's still a fruitcake. He's had plenty of opportunities to clarify things he's said in the past. The whole Matt Lauer thing, the way he went off on Brooke Shields... Please, that wasnt misinterpreted, he made his feelings perfectly clear. You cant act like a raving lunatic for 3 years (or longer) and then in one interview claim it was all the media trying to twist it, that it was taken out of context.

I have always LOVED Tom Cruise and I think Katie has turned into an Elegant lady that the younger generation can look up to. Suri is absolutly adorable. Love them.
I think the media made a big deal over him jumping on a sofa. I would love it if my hubby jumoed on a sofa and confessed his love for me to the world.
Nothing in the media will influence my opinion. People through out this whole world have different beliefs. I love this country, because we have the freedom to choose what we believe in. If you do not like scientology, then don't join. Simple.
Not in the least! Tom is crazy. Nothing that he can say or do will change what I think about him. I think Katie got caught up in the whirldwind and never saw the consquences of being with him would do to her. She's stuck. I know that she's not happy. She's always got that vacant look about her. How can anyone not see that she needs help. I know people who know her parents personally and they don't like Tom. Why do think she has limited contact with them? As for Suri, Tom is still calculating every move with her to keep her in the tabloids. It's not about having Suri time as he puts it. He knows it'll keep people interested. It's all abut money and Tom things he's a genious! Look at the videos that came out and you'll see what I mean.
So he dresses up like Santa, has cookies and milk with Suri, how nice, so cute.
But it's all staged, he's an actor acting, alot of b.s. What's he supposed to do on the Oprah show? Tell the truth? It doesn't matter, the truth is already out. He can just keep lying. If he was genuine all along,this maneuvering to get himself "liked" wouldn't be necessary. He is treacherous.
He and his GF Kate say their lines out of a script, all prearranged, just like the call the paps when they want them. Weird, disappointing people.

People have a right to believe as they with; people also have a right to speak as they wish. Scientology is a tax-exempt cult dreamed up by a half-assed science fiction writer. To actually believe in the doctrine of this organization, you must suspend your sense of disbelief and eat a pile of horse-apples. Scientologist = one step below Mormonism = BOGUS. Additionally, he doesn't really "act" in his movies; he plays, "Tom Cruise." Think about it...

well rounded actor that's so entertaining. He is hot inside and out and I find his personal life and Katie Holmes quite fascinating and intriguing. I think Suri is the most precious baby Ive seen in Hollywood.
The cult are the media/tabloids for brainwashing and bigotry they preach on the public about public figures and America.
After watching the interview Tom comes across as so disingenuous. Now everything he's said and done over the last three years is misunderstood. He seems incapable of being honest and just saying what he thinks...its all a rehearsed line that in the end is meaningless. He says what he is going to say and can't answer a single answer directly.

I just watched the interview and I must say...he's lying! Oprah was practically finishing all of his sentences for him. I was on the fence about him but now I realize that he's hiding so much about who he really is.
Plus Katie greeting Oprah at the beginning was just too much. It was funny because Katie kept saying "I love you" before the she left but Tom didn't say anything back, so Oprah said "I love you too"!!!!!!

He is so rehearsed and controlling and full of avoid alter and deny. When asked about the kids and their relationship with Nicole he did exactly what he said he would do if he didn't want to tell oprah about the kids reaction to Kate. He avoided the answer by repeating something else "we share custody". he never answered the question!!!!
Okay, when I read it, I thought he sounded pretty humble. Which is a welcome change. But now I have to go watch it and see what all the fuss is about. DVR, here I come!

I never liked Tom Cruise. But not because of his religion or sofa jumping(which to me was not a big deal anyway) I thought he was that he was a controlling cold freak. I just saw 3 min of his interview and I think I am able to change my mind about him, because he see,med low key and humble. And alhtouh I still think he is a control freak, I believe he is more traditional man in his values than new Hollywood crop.
Just Mr Cruise in damage control. Why weren't they interviewed as a couple? Can't Katie be trusted to say the "right" thing?
I think Tom Cruise is a man of values and loves his family...perfect NO, but doubt if any of the people who saying ugly things about this man have walked on water. Personally I thing "we" as a society all each have enough of our own faults...to keep us too busy to find faults with others...if we are working on being our best! Also the interview was directed to Tom not Katie...and that why I believe Tom was only present after Katie left after the welcoming of their guest and the main interview started. Many times Katie has given her own interviews...and Tom supports Katie in her projects and life. Personallly Tom seems like a loving and caring family man. I have NEVER head Tom say any thing ugly about his ex wife Nicole either. I admire Tom as a actor. There is so much in the world of drug users, haters, and worse...seems we should be looking for the good and working to help those people who have real problems....like people that enjoy hating...others. I am praying for you people that seems to want to look for bad in others....May we as individuals "all' just work on making our own lives better..........which in turn would make our world more loving and better. IT seems that would be a full time project for many of those people that seemed more troubled by Tom's success........to start working on having successes in their own life. May we ..........Focus on being the "best" people we can that will keep us all busy and allow for less time to to find faults in others...........................Food for Thought.............However sadly many people like to blame faults on others...instead of correctly or working on being a better person...........which one are you?

I am not sure I agree with Tom's faith, however I really don't understand or have much knowledge of it. I don't think putting some one down is the answer to helping people see the light...may LOVE and looking for the good and being a good example would be of help. I think Tom is a good actor and seems to wish to help others...............
Oprah's 4 interviews with Jill Bolte Taylor were the first that Oprah did after Eckhart Tolle and they take everything Tolle talks about to another level. Oprah's copy of Jill's book, MY STROKE OF INSIGHT, was dog-eared and all marked up and kept reading from it the way she read from A New Earth and recommended it highly.
Oprah's recommendation was enough for me. I read My Stroke of Insight and I loved it too. This story is as inspiring as The Last Lecture or Tuesdays with Morrie - and even better, it has a Happy Ending!

Tom Cruise is such a good actor you'd think he would be able to act more normally in public, even if it was just an act. That's not the way I would want people to see me acting on a talkshow. Maybe someone should tell him he is a fucking lunatic and needs to conceal it with his acting abilities?
