I wanted to do a quick poll to see who had different feelings towards
Tom Cruise. I slept on it and actually feel a bit sorry that I wasted so much of last year thinking he was... nuts. I keep forgetting how the media can take something and really run with it. Oh and the small fact that Tom is HUMAN. We all make mistakes, but we all don't do it in front of millions of people. After watching the Oprah interview with Tom Cruise, what are your thoughts on the man.
And don't get me wrong, I know that it was a carefully spoken interview designed to specifically do just this - change the public negative opinion of Tom. But personally, I've been swayed.
If any of you have been swayed by his and Oprah's campaign, then yes, it was a success.
He is the most public figure of Scientology. And they knew he needed to be loved once again by the public.......he was turning people off.
If I even had one thought of being "swayed", the recent video of him quickly came to mind. That is the REAL Tom, not what you see on Oprah. That video depicts a crazy man, the true self of someone not knowing anyone else would see.
Sorry, I am NOT that gullable. I still think he is a wacko. But then I am older and cannot be swayed easily, I know better. I think younger people can be swayed more easily which is probably the group he was going for. He knows he is wasting his time on people like me. I am surprised that he got to you. He is a crazy man and I don't trust him or his "church". He is a pathetic little man. I wish you hadn't said you were swayed, I really did not want to know this. Some things should be kept to ones self and being swayed by Tom Cruise is one of them. Hopefully Lainey didn't crack.
:(
"What do you want to do? We'll just do it. That'll be it."
"Kate showed up. She loves sugar. Katie showed up with cupcakes so it was instant reality."
"You egged me on."
For months he and Katie have been on a campaign to rehabilitate their image, which was damaged over the past few years. They are spending a lot of time and money trying to get back to having a positive image. Problem is... I just don't like him anymore. It started for me with the way he treated Nicole at the end. Her heart was broken and he was awful enough to say to the press, "she knows what she did." He couldn't just keep it to himself, he had to make sure everyone knew it was her fault (at least in his mind). That was wrong, I thought, and I will never feel the same about this insecure person. Katie seems great. However, I hate to see her in this creepy life.
oprah must invite VANHALEN.
The studio full of sofa's.
VANHALEN with JUMP!!
tommy-lookalike jumping like hell on the sofa's!
Yes, I agree Vera. It is easy to just believe what the papers write, and forget that they just want to sell magazines and will make up anything in order to do so.
Yes he's a scientologist, yes he's said some weird stuff, yes it always looks as though he is controlling his wife etc......
But so what? Everyone has their own weird ways , the difference is, as Vera pointed out, that we aren't scrutinized and followed by cameras every moment of the day.
I do feel sorry for him, and actually think he seems quite normal and wish him all the best. There are far worse people out there but people just seem obsessed with picking on Tom for some reason. Anyway, I'm glad I watched the interview as it shows the dangerous manipulative power of the press, and shows us that Tom is human.
The haters here dont represent America. Many people love Tom! Period!
Overall Oprah gained lots of viewers aka big ratings. So hilarious that even those that dont like Cruise flock to watch him.
The whining is non existent because I have never seen many blogs turn postively on Cruise and the media reports say the interview was very well done and successful. The love for Cruise is still burning deep.
I'm not particularly fond of him, but I don't hate him. I think he's a little crazy but I also think my opinion of the man doesn't matter. It's easy to forget celebrities aren't human.
Scientology is the closest cult there is in the U.S. to Nazism at the time of Hitler in the 1930's. While Hitler drew on Norse mythology, Scientology draws on unbelievable myths created by sci fi writer L. Ron Hubbard, about space aliens and the like. Because of its close resemblance to Nazisim, chancellor of Germany has attempted to officially ban Scientology from their country.
Scientology has used Cruise, mostly without his real knowledge, to push this cult on thousands of people around the globe, simply because there are enough gullible people who think it is worth trying, because a handsome, successful actor like Tom is involved with it. Must be great? Right? Stars are courted in a way that is completely different from the average cult member.
Many very "good" people in Nazi Germany ended up joining the Nazi party, and most of the national rallied around their lunatic leader, Hitler. Anyway, read something about Scientology, before you sign up for indoctrination, especially if you are doing it because you think Tom Cruise is so cool.
Yes, Tom Cruise is human, yes he's rich, famous and gets relentlessly hounded by the media and photographers as most people of his star power do -- and aspects of that can be hell -- but also remember he is a member of this crazy cult. So, check out what they believe, it is on websites like: operation clambake.
It was nice to see all the family pictures and the way he said "Kate can speak for herself" changed my mind somewhat on the theory that he's controlling of her. And then there's what he said about Scientology about how he's not out there to convert people and something about the principles of Scientology saying to respect other religions. I was even surprised to hear he believed in God. Overall I guess I see him as less crazy and maybe just a tad weird but I don't mind him and maybe even like him. Katie Holmes is just a tad too soft spoken for me now, it's kind of weird.
I think Tom is weird and I didnt rush to see the interview. As much as you are saying the media is trying to crucify him you realize he is using the same media to now broadcasting this new and improved Tom. I can bet the questions were sent back and forth for weeks to be approved and studied. Tom is after all an actor and used to memorizing lines.
Katie Holmes smokes. The founder of Scientology, L. Ron Hubbard, promoted smoking for its health benefits; which might be the least wacky of this cult's beliefs. Google OPERATION CLAMBAKE. Twenty years ago, even young children in Scientology were encouraged to smoke, although undoubtedly that has changed in recent years.
Of course, I don't know if Katie smokes for spiritual reasons, or because she's just got a monkey on her back. But it is a fact, that as anti-drug as Scientology is, for years, they promoted smoking, and as far as I know, they still think it is great today.
My opinion of Tom Cruise is that while it would be nice if Tom Cruise, like any wildly popular celebrity, could have more privacy, he is also the poster boy for one of the most dangerous cults in the U.S., Scientology.
I can't bring myself to watch the interview because it is such a calculated move and I hate that feeling of being manipulated.
Am I the only one who feels this interview was scripted? It was obvious to me that he knew all the questions before they were asked. It wasn't spontaneous at all. Also, how about when Oprah asked him about Nicole's relationship with his kids? I look at body language and the eyes and when she asked the first question he totally turned his head looked away and answered. He didn't seem very sincere about that at all and she didn't press him on that at all.
It certainly did not change my opinion about him. This interview was carefully planned and executed all to manipulate public. This interview doesn't change the fact that he is still actively involved in Scientology and if he had been hailed and applauded 3 years ago instead of vilified he would be even more out spoken.
The only regret I believe he has is that people got to see the real Tom and they didn't like him. He regrets sending his career down the toilet in spite of the fact that he is worth over 100 million dollars. Just goes to show that the ego of man can't handle being rejected and all the money in the world won't make you feel better.
The man didnt do anything wrong. Its the media because they have a business to keep and they love sensationalism.
Its also the public's worth that we love and clamor for stuff like this. Its natutal and we're all nosy with others but when its our own life we dont like to be pried upon too. Double standard really.
Im never swayed by the gossips though. I have my own mind.
God bless the Cruise family.
I have to agree with missyfussy. Though I did watch the first video. It just looked too...staged. Like a performance. "Oh see how normal we are?" I get that he's human, I get that he married Katie, but to know that this was all done to try and get people to like him again it just felt very....dirty.
CNN polls last night 83% on Cruise side versus 19%
Access Hollywood 79% sympathize with Cruise
versus 13%.
Im with the media that add the Cruise factor more powerful than ever
plus his wife and baby are media public darlings.
Not everyone blindly follows Oprah and who she endorses. They were both fake as usual. And how many times did Katie say, "I love you, Tom"? Just because she said it ten times.....hmmm....OK. Now I believe her.....NOT!
Total PR stunt to try to turn his image and struggling career around.
umm... what? the media didn't even have to manipulate him- he lined it up and shot it right out of the park all on his own. Did you not see that Scientology video he did? The guy is at the very least an odd duck- I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think he's crazy.
Vera, if you have been swayed. I feel bad for you. :(
This was totally staged, and forcefully edited, and forcefully coached.
If you honestly believe that anyone should have to come onto media forcefully to correct the errors that others think you have done, you are a terrible person. He was not allowed to speak his opinions on the topics. He, in a very nicely scripted way told all of us that he had no further comment and to look away from it all.
Beyond my opinion that Scientology is a pyramid scheme. The fact that Oprah went along for the obvious PR campaign with him makes me feel sad about her too. Another instance where she was duped to campaign something for ratings. Yay Sweeps, or did we forget about the Million Little Pieces/ Faux Drug Addict book "scandal?"
Either way, I love your site Vera. I hope you can read up on Scientology just like Tom Cruise said and make your own opinion. I hope you do also realize that he is First and foremost a Scientogolist, as he says. So you should know what they are doing to make him more a Scientologist and less good old Tommy Cruise.
Google it yourselves.
Google Jason Behge. Google Operation Freak Out. Operation Snow White. www.whyaretheydead.net xenu.net
The "church" of Scientology just BOUGHT their own private YouTube channel to advertise their introductory videos. Why would a belief system not allow comments or questions?
I love the interview. It was genuine and sincere, to me. I definitely feel more for him now. One of the best Oprah shows ever
Oh, who CARES?? The only reason we care is b/c he is a CELEBRITY!!! We all know crazy people who believe or do crazy (at least it seems crazy to us) stuff all the time. He opened his mouth, said some silly things, and whether or not it got spun out of control is anybodies guess (or opinion). Who CARES that he is a Scientologist, who CARES that he married a much younger woman, who CARES what his opinions are? Do we know him? Is he affecting OUR LIVES in a negative way? Only if we let him. He is a celebrity, and therefore people are interested. Why that calls for people to think they can make judgement calls about him, his family, his religion is beyond me!
keely lay off the tabloids plsssss
that video was stolen and was badly edited by the Anonymous group
if you dont know that group is being watched by the L.A.P.D. and FBI.
they steal videos, hacked sites and sent powder to the churches.
those are forms of terrorism and acts of crimes.
@Tess
That video exists in its ENTIRETY and was posted on the web three months before the mass media took onto it. Go watch it.
The FBI are not investigating the Anonymous group, as there is nothing to investigate. It's not an organized group. It has no leader. Police, in every city worldwide where protests against the COS have occurred, have worked side by side with the peaceful protesters. In fact, there are currently investigations in Atlanta, Washington DC, and NYC from protesters against Scientologists who have physically assaulted them. Google it/ ChaCha it, Love.
:D
My cyberlips are sealed. Those are just intel. teasers. The truth is out there anyway.
His movies are just as interesting as his personal life. Im in 7th heaven to see polls on MSNBC,CNN,ET,Inside Edition,Access all pro-Tom.
Why do we have to like him? I like his movies. He does not have to live his personal life to suit me, only himself and his family. If he puts out a good movie, I want to see it. But, I don't understand this idea that we have to approve of someone's lifestyle.
I always enjoyed almost all of his movies! He is very talented and almost every one of his movies were successful. What he does with his personal life is HIS business, not ours. It is none of our business. I still think Scientology is a cult and yes I'm disappointed that he is being brainwashed and he is a little wacko , but you know... SO WHAT! That's his problem not mine and it's not yours. I'm not going to stop watching his movies because of his stupid beliefs.
