My Friend's Husband Won The Kentucky Derby!

She isn't a close friend, but Sonia Desormeaux is from my town and in my Bunko group (don't ask). Last week, we attended a get together and Sonia was talking about what she would wear to the Kentucky Derby very nonchalantly (cement pencil dress with an over-sized blue hat). A few days pass and a bunch of us head over to Belmont to enjoy a day at the races. Imagine the screams that came from our room when her husband WON the Kentucky Derby. Kent Desormeaux took quite the lead and everyone from town was rooting him along.
Congrats guys!! This will be some night to celebrate.
PS: A lot of people are telling me about the TMZ video that is posted about Sonia. The implants the reporter is referencing are on her son's head. He is deaf and had surgery to help him hear. So they made a mistake in talking about what was said. I hope they fix it soon.

I'm sure it's totally exciting to be the jockey to win, but...yea... forget about the horse that got her legs broken and had to be put down. It's a disgusting sport.

um okay. but i thought the horse died after it won.

I am excited for the jockey's family, but you should have mentioned something about Eight Belles, the horse that ran a heck of a race to place and then had to be euthanized at the end of the race. Triumph certainly came with tragedy on racing's biggest stage and the joy is tinged with sadness. Everyone here in the great Commonwealth of Kentucky is mourning the loss.

Eight Belles, the horse that died came in second.

I really feel sorry for Eight Belles owners :( I think he was one of the favorites to win these race horses cost so much some in the thousands or millions of dollars

curious is there a list of celebritys that attended the race you only saw a few on he red carpet but I know there were many more at the race

Big Brown is a Triple Crown Winner---no horse can pass him in the last quarter mile..I had $100 to win on him.

Eight Bells owner's and trainers are idiots!!!!...They ran that poor horse to death---she had NO REST...they ran her every 4 weeks since September...poor thing ran her heart out and her legs gave way. I hope they feel guilty today.

OMG! That's so awesome! It's always wonderful to see rich people getting richer on the flesh of animals, without regard to the order of nature. Whatever it takes to get more, more, more, and look at all of our ridiculously wonderful hats! Nevermind Eight Belles...how many horses meet with "interestingly accidental" demises (stable fires, broken legs, etc.) after their failed run? Disgusting, no matter what end you're looking from.

That is wonderful for your friend, I was rooting for them after seeing the piece on her son, and the difficulties he is facing now with facing the possibility of losing his sight after the hearing difficulty. They are in my prayers.
The Eight Belles made me cry.

Jen Jen said:

I agree with SarahMac. While it is exciting for the jockey, owners and betters, I am not a supporter of sports which exploit animals for profit and entertainment. I cried when I saw Eight Belles laying there on the track and then felt extreme anger when I heard she was euthanized. Her legs broken because she was run very hard and all for the profit of rich people.

This along with dog racing are two abhorrent sports. Run yourself ragged for a sport, that's fine. It's a conscious choice. But run an animal ragged who has no conscious choice, that's just wrong. It irks me even more for them to say "she ran the race of her life".

Jdubs Jdubs said:

exactly, I am glad you're celebrating but when will this horrible sport that is only used as a money maker be put to an end. It's disgusting and I'm sick of watching ignorant people rooting these horses on just for the fun of dressing up etc... pls tell me this isn't acceptable!

Can you post some pics of your bunko party? That jockey's wife has an amazing set of ta ta's. I'd be a motor boatin' son of a gun.

DA DA said:

You people that are anti-horseracing are very uninformed. Do your research.

Besides, without euthanized horses there would be a dog food shortage.

I am not a supporter of corporate american exploiting its citizens by basically slave labor to pay for necessities of life. When are they going to pay those who work with these atheletes are real wage with real benefits? They terry nickel and dime them every which way. Paying barely min. wage and then if ask for OT --good luck. Those illegals have those farm jobs all wrapped up thanks to those greedy farm "managers" and owners who keep all the monies to the top and pay their workers very little for hard labor with NO benefits. Maybe those illegals like being paid 6/hr to lift 70 lb hay?!?! They truly terry nickel and dime their "employees", that is why this "sport" is on life support and gasping for air. Other than those ultra-rich family owned breeding operations filled with nepotism, croenism, having right last name etc... the "sport" attract on the regular day of racing, old degerates, drunks, bums, and rowdy low lifes they scream and pee away their welfare/social insecurity allotments.
