How can she be surprised by the success? Fans have been waiting for this moment to arrive for years now! Sarah Jessica Parker was modest when she talked about how the movie has been a super hit.
"To be No. 1 is unexpected. Beyond that, it would be greedy for us to think about, talk about" how much it might make.
So far the movie has taken in $55.7 million dollars. Sarah says the fan support has been amazing.
"They had to have barricades in New York for the audiences," she notes. "People have been really enthusiastic, people have been really nice."

She has always came off to me like someone who is very humble. Maybe that is where that statement comes from. She might actually get it and realize "here today, gone tomorrow".
I took the Mrs. to see it yesterday. She enjoyed it and so did I. Not as bad or as boring as I expected it to be. Glad to see the wedding scene (first one) turned out the way it did. Way over done. I thought the worst dressed was Samantha (really ugly fashion accessories). Best dressed was Charlotte, especially in Mexico.
It is so boring already to listen to her already, why would she be a producer and make the film if she didn't think it would do well. Come on, please stop with the "greatful, honored, blessed, etc" language...it's a movie, not an event of a lifetime, such as the falling of the Berlin wall?
yeah, she's just saying that to appear modest.
Love her! She seems really nice and grateful for all her success.
I liked the SATC movie. I don't understand how it got such bad reviews!
I went to see the movie this weekend, and I loved it! It was everything I had hoped it would be... it made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me want more! I hope they make a sequel.
GirlyGirl, I was about to write the same thing. I just LOVED the movie. It answered a lot of questions and I'm so glad it turned out the way it did. I laughed, I cried, I cheered on. It was absolutely amazing. I went with 2 friends who had never watched the series (yes, I know, they were living under a rock!) and they loved the movie as well. Now they want to watch the entire series and we're going to start throwing SATC parties. As for SJP's humbleness, in a way, she is being humble, but on a business side, they really weren't expecting it to be a success. The movie's distributor predicted half of the sales and it exceeded way beyond their expectations. I am so happy it did well. I'm also baffled as to why it got all these bad reviews. IMO, they did an incredible job of cramming 6 years into a 2 hour movie. Sure, some characters were not given enough screen time, but they did a terrific job with what little screen time the did have. The fans were happy with the outcome and that's really all that counts in the end.
I'm not diggin' the white boots with the dress. The boots look they should have ice skating blades on the bottom. I haven't seen the movie, but I didn't watch the tv show either. I have seen bits and pieces of it as my daughter used to watch it. Friday night she went to see it with her friends and they dressed up like the characters.
I love the movie. I'm going to see it again! And I like it that she feels honoured and thankful. Without the fans there wouldn't have been a film! And for some it is an event of a lifetime!
I couldn't help myself so before i watched the movie i read all the reviews.. so i honestly didn't know what to expect! BUT I LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie! It was so great! I was laughing & crying the whole show! And i also admit towards the end i was watching the time, cause i KNEW carrie & big had to get married or there was gonna have to be a SATC 2!! What great movie =)
I loved the movie. Anyone who wants the Paris purse, it is here http://www.patriciafield.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=637 click the drop down menu for both versions.
LOL Who's that sneezing girl in your avatar? totally hilarious!
I LOVE SJP!!!! She's so amazing and plays the part of Carrie so well. It makes me want to be her best friend. I saw the movie a few days ago and it was UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! It was a perfect sequel to the show. It closed a lot of open ends and the characters were still as sexy and enticing as they were 5 years ago. So many unexpected things happend, and although it was long, not a second was boring! All four of them did SUCH a good job and the movie paid a perfect tribute to the show.
I SO CAN`T WAIT TO SEE THE MOVIE
The production company was worried before the movie came out that it would reach a narrow audience (girls night out for the 40's crowd). It still may peak early if everyone sees it on May 30th and that's it. Also, the timing is a little off (up against some summer heavy hitters like Indiana Jones). Hense, SJP's comment about being surprised it reached #1. There will always be haters who want to rip apart everything she says though. Whatever.
