Sarah Jessica Parker And Matthew Broderick Think James Wilkie May Grow Up To Be A Smoker

I didn't even know that Sarah Jessica Parker smoked. Here's what her hubby, Matthew Broderick had to say about that.

“I used to smoke cigarettes, and I still do, lately. I gave that up a
long time ago, but every now and then I will fall off for a week.” And
guess who's fault that might be? Broderick says SJP is “worse than me
on that.” And James Wilkie is “already curious. He’ll see a cigarette
butt and say, 'What is that? Why do people smoke?' I can just see the
little budding gene of a smoker in there.”

Oh my gosh that is horrible! And if that is true and he can already see that in his 5 year old child you would think that would guilt them into quitting!!! They shouldn't even be smoking around him period. I think I've actually lost a bit of respect for them...

My dad grew up with his parents that ONLY smoked at home...And, he NEVER smoked. Maybe little James will "wise up" when he gets older and NOT smoke!

My parents smoked when I was a kid (they've both since quit) and neither me nor my siblings have ever smoked. I don't understand the purpose. Intentionally inhaling smoke just doesn't make any sense to me!

A parent doesnt have to smoke in FRONT of their child for a child to know that their parents smoke.

Oh dear... I hate smoking. On the plus though, SJP's dress is fabulous!!

Passerby Passerby said:

Hopefully they will discourage him from smoking, instead of thinking it's cute. I don't care if people smoke (away from me) but I also think we should teach children what a bad habit it is.

Passerby Passerby said:

i hope they understand the harm they are doing to him by having him inhale second hand smoke. I do hope for the child's sake they are smoking outside and not where the child inhales it.

they didn't say they smoked around him, just that he saw a few butts. Could've been outside or anywhere.

Passerby Passerby said:

You would think seeing your child's curiosity about smoking, and thinking he's at risk of becoming a smoker, would be enough to make you NEVER want to smoke again.

I wish I could have heard him say this instead of having to read it. You never know what kind of emotion is behind it. I really hope that there is further explanation, because reading this I dont know if he is being nonchalant or if its an actual concern they have for their son.

Way to joke--"budding gene of a smoker"--about your child taking up smoking in the future. How about you raise your child in a smoke-free environment and hope for the best. Smoking is NOT a result of genetics.

Matthew Broderick is a murderer.

I wouldn't go THAT far.....

Using that statement and their own line of thought.....

You would think they might be worried their child would grow up to slaughter people with a car.

I hope he doesn't think that it's okay for his son to start smoking someday. I would think that no parent would want that for their child. It would be interesting to hear how he actually said it.

Wow aim high, Matthew.

I hope this is a bogus quote and tomorrow there is a statement that he never said anything like it. If not, sad.

Passerby Passerby said:

Not extreme, when he is actually responsible for the death of two people. I can never look at him without thinking about him walking around enjoying life, when he is the cause of others death.

Passerby Passerby said:

Please explain?

Passerby Passerby said:

He caused a car crash in Ireland about 20 years ago in which two people were killed

Passerby Passerby said:

The asshole was driving drunk, and so what if it was 20 years ago. He is still responsible for their deaths. If he had any decency he would have retired from public life. He and his horse face wife make me sick.

Passerby Passerby said:

Oh please, if he smokes he smokes, there's a lot worse things he could do. I'm not a smoker and I know secondhand smoke it not going to kill me or anyone else. It's unreal to try to make other conform to our way of life. If we don't like the smoke, don't go around it and I'm sure they won't come hang out at my house to smoke.

Second hand smoke does kill people.  Nobody is trying to make you "conform" to their way of life.  But nobody wants to damage their lungs with your secondhand smoke when it's not their choice either.

These people have the good life, lots of money, no worries. You'd think with all that they'd want to be around as long as possible to enjoy it. They're not the sharpest knives in the drawer. By the time their son is grown up maybe they'll have a cure for lung cancer, but that won't help him if he drops dead from a sudden heart attack like my mom did from her smoking habit.

Passerby Passerby said:

Not all people die from smoking.

Passerby Passerby said:

No not all, but the RISK of cardio-vascular disease, lung cancer and a whole host of other cancers and diseases is increased if you do. The old guy next door to me just died from smoking. In the 20 years I have lived here, I rarely saw him without a cigarette in his mouth. He even mowed the lawn while smoking. He developed lung cancer and emphysema. When the window was open to the side bedroom where he lay dying, you could hear the oxygen pump and various other machines whirring away keeping him alive. You could hear the TV on 24/7. Some quality of life! Eventually he was taken off to hospital - and never came home. We will all die of something, but to choose to engage in a habit known to increase the risks of dying a horrible death does not make sense. And being in denial won't lessen the risks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Second smoke doesn't kill people or at least as many people as it's been portrayed to kill. People don't die from smoking, they die from the effects of it. Throat Cancer (which is apparently also caused by giving head and contracting the HPV virus), Mouth Cancer (people who chew tobacco are most likely to get this), Lung Disease, etc.

Seventeen Magazine featured a photo of SJP like 10-15 years ago. It was a photo on the effects of cigarette smoke and your face. At the time she was only 30 or around that age and she looked so haggard, she looked 50. Although lately she's been photographed not wearing or not wearing as much makeup and she doesn't look that bad? I would call Photoshop but I don't recall Photoshop being around in '95.

Passerby Passerby said:

The effects of 2ndhand smoke are not fully known. It affects you later in life and is another toxin that can contribute to a host of diseases and chronic conditions as you age. Everyone's body processes it differently, but it definitely can cause harm.

These people are just idiots, period. Whether smoke kills or not isn't even the question. MB says he sees "the little budding gene of a smoker in there”? HUH? Dude, the kid didn't ask because he is a "budding smoker". He asked simply because he wanted to know what it was. If he saw you put a stick in your peehole, he would ask about that too.

Passerby Passerby said:

Fancy even admitting to the fact that you and your wife smoke and make light of the fact that this could cause your son to smoke, when you are constantly in the public eye. Why would he say such a thing when he knows the media will pounce on it? Does he have problems with his wife's popularity at the moment due to the SATC film? He claims she's worse than him. Thanks for being the loyal husband, Matthew. Never knew SJP smoked, but it might explain the way she's looking now she's getting older - thin to the point of being sinewy, gaunt face which looks older than she is. The other girls in the movie look positively fresh next to her. Still love her though...

I wonder how many people are equally concerned about the car they drive or the sorts of gases they're sending out into he atmosphere? I wonder how many people think "Oh I'll not take this flight" or "I'll not eat red meat"? Believe it or not people don't die just of smoking-related causes, cows produce a gas expelled during eructation - methane - that depletes the ozone layer, for instance, but that's all right somehow and yet we are all affected by those changes and skin cancer is on the rise.

I'm rather certain he meant it sarcastically, and we're just seeing the quote. I'm not trying to defend smoking, not at all, I'm just, with respect, very tired of this instant American attitude, like smoking is the cause of all evil. I am sure that many of the people who will criticise him now eat poorly and don't exercise and may even be overweight, for instance, or expose themselves to the sun far too much, which will kill them faster than usual in different ways, and yet bad eaters/committed sunbathers aren't publicly flayed in the same manner. Seems a tad hyppocritical to me, sorry.

Passerby Passerby said:

I don't engage in any of those behaviors, nor do most of the people I know. Stop trying to pass the buck and take some responsibility for your health and the environment. For the record smoking is really bad - not the cause of all evil but it has very damaging consequences. (I am a medical professional and see the effects of smoking and other unhealthy behaviors all the time.) I understand that people have the right to smoke, but it is a bad habit just like many other habits (one not necessarily worse than another). I for one do not like smoke in my immediate environment. I have that right. Let's respect other people's wishes, be they smokers and non-smokers.

When I was little my dad was a smoker. My mom would never allow him to smoke in the house. Soooooooo, when I was little say 3 or 4 and I was outside with my dad in the yard and he was smoking and reading the paper(obviously not keeping a very good eye on me), after he threw the butt out in the yard I would go pick it up and continue smoking the butt because he NEVER put the ciggie out, there was always about 1/2 of it left. I finally quit doing it at about 10 or 11. I never was a smoker as an adult. I have always had lung problems and have wondered if it is because I was smoking at 3 yrs old.

First off, MB has an extremely dry sense of humor. You would have to watch alot of his interviews to know he often makes light of stuff and makes fun of himself. This quote, I would be certain, was made as a joke.

Secondly, the person who continually writes that MB was drunk when his accident occurred is full of it. It was morning and he was on the way to pick up his mom at the airport. There was never any indication that he was drunk. He crossed an intersection and ended up on the right side of the road, which is the wrong side in Ireland. Unfortunate yes, but not murder.

Thirdly, I grew up in a house of smokers and have never smoked. That is a choice. Of course there is no "smoking gene"...that's the whole point, it's a JOKE>>> Get a grip people..
