Malibu Mayor Demands Paparazzi Buffer Zone Law
All you need is to have one place approve such a law... then it will trickle down the Californian coast faster than a blink of an eye. I think it is BRILLIANT to set up "buffer zones" for cameramen and photographers who follow celebrities to the beach and that is exactly what the Mayor of Malibu wants to make into a law.
Pamela Ulich even wants to tax the snappers an additional fee to use these areas. That would make events like surfers attacking Matthew McConaughey's photographer a thing of the past. Everyone will have their place and celebs will feel safe and not so violated all the time.
She wants the paparazzi to "think twice before shoving a camera in your face". Do you think a law such as this is possible in the near future?

I hope they start passing these laws. We indulge in viewing these pictures, but don't want to encourage almost abusive behavior. If you've ever been in the vicinity of a celebrity at the airport or eating a meal, it's insane!!

About time, I think this is a good idea. It is the best thing I think to keep everyone safe the celebs and the paps. (remember when brit almost ran one over in her car?)

I love watching the little fight in malibu the other day. Stupid paps lol. You don't swing a tripod at a group of 20-30 year old males that are drinking and gathering around you.

I think it's brilliant!! I understand that it's part of being a celebrity with having paps all over you, but most of them DO have families and deserve privacy. PLUS there are "regular folk" who end up getting caught in the "fire". Anyone remember the little girl getting knocked over by a pap chasing Tom Cruise??

Yeah right...While it is a bit insane, how can this be passed? What's next? You can only take pictures of the Hollywood sign in certain, fee-charging locations on Tuesdays. You can only walk on the left side of the street on Wednesday. You can only be annoying on your cell phone during Passover.
I colored my hair a while back and started to let the roots show because i noticed how damaged the top layer was and was worried about how it looks. but she has the same thing going on (although you can contribute the no-color thing to the pregnancy). still, i feel better now.. :)
i think it's about time. some of these celebrities want and deserve privacy. (not talking about the ones that beg for privacy in one breath and then in the next are given intimate details about their relationships). i know it's something that goes along with their job but when ppl start getting violence and belligerent it's time for something to be done. it's not about privacy; it's about safety now.
Well it's about time someone tried this. I don't think there's any reason for paps to be up in celebs faces taking photos. They have lenses with enough power to get up close shots from far away. Celebs are people too that deserve some privacy and not to have cameras right in their faces all the time.
Not sure how this would really work though. Who is considered a paparazzi and who is just a regular professional photographer and who is just a fan getting a shot of their favorite star? It's going to be hard to police this.
Finally!! They should make the paparazzi get licenses to photograph too. I think it would cut back on the violence, if they could have their license revoked for it.

I agree with Carmen. There are literally thousands upon thousands of registered photographers taking pictures all over the world, employed by faceless companies who sell to sites and magazines.
About how to police this? Good Luck. Celebs know that having their pic taken is a good thing. Many are told by their "team" to go to certain places just to get their picture taken. Can't they ask permission? I know it sounds silly, but isn't that what used to happen? Then again, I'm old-fashioned, and old! LOL
