LOVE stories like this, just wish there were more of them. Teri Hatcher recently took her daughter Emerson on a trip to Kenya where the two of them raised$35,000 for children and adults affected by poverty. They spent two weeks in Nairobi where and presented the donation there.
Teri says that the kids were too embarrassed to talk to her so they used her daughter as a go between!
"They loved my daughter. We talked about math. We joked. They would say, 'What subjects do you like in school? What's your hardest subject? What do you like? What do you do? What's your favourite thing to do?' "We talked about sports. We talked about who likes science - stuff like that."
What an eye opening experience that must have been for Emerson !

I'm soooooooo glad no one in the U.S. is going without food. I'm so sick of these celebs worrying about everyone except the people who have made them celebs.
Well considering the U.S helps every other country except itself its no wonder celebs choose to help elsewhere. The US is ****ed its just as much of a 'third world' country as the rest of them. We ****ed Africa over MANY A TIMES so the least people can do now is help.
very good for them. Terry is looking older than her years, partially because he lower body is sooooooo skinny it is flat. And she has this aging tan. And those huge implants. Well the Hollywood works deluxe, where only mad celebrities think itis attractive. Being slim only pays in 20ies and 30is, one needs a little more fat when older to keep softer younger look.
Give her a break! At least she's trying to help. Whether it's in America or somewhere else at least she made somebody's life a little bit better.
Right, because there is no poverty here in the US. This country as a whole needs to start minding its own f***ing business around the globe and start taking care of **** right here at home.
typical american attitude = selfish and self centered
Yep, I'm terribly selfish and self-centered. That's why I volunteer, foster and give away a huge chunk of my income to charity. Charity begins at home.
How do you know that she hasn't also given to charities in the US? You don't. It's the whole "us" versus "them" attitude Americans have that's the reason we're in the position we're in now, globally. You just proved the other poster's point about being self-centered.
She should start by feeding herself instead.
This is ridiculous. I wonder how much money they spent on that trip. It's probably just as much as the amount they raised anyway.
Emerson sure is getting big.
comment #1, people in Africa don't have the opportunity to go to school, or get good jobs. But in the U.S the schools are free and they have a chance to make something of themselves. And besides how do they support the celebrities if they don't have any money?
it is very honorable to help other people in need. But with some celebrities I m not sure if it is just a trend to stay in the news. There are plenty of people in this country who need help. Many elderly, children who need assistance. Charity begins at home. I understand Afrika is a very poor continent but no matter how much money is poured there it all ends up in somebodys pockets. Afrikan nations are not able to help themselves! And that is the reason they cannot progress. Why can't some celebrities start helping poor in Romania or Peru? Why is it always Afrika? Political correctness is bordering with idiocy. Insptead of pouring money into this hole we need to teach people how to catch a fish and stop panhandling.
It's spelled Africa, not Afrika. So many people in America need help because they didn't stay in school. (hint hint)
LOL
