Sarah Jessica Parker Is An Eco-Traveler

Sarah Jessica Parker Is An Eco-Traveler

While leaving her West Village townhouse, Sarah Jessica Parker opted for a chauffeured-driven Toyota Prius instead of the tradition black Escalade. Every bit counts.

I am so jealous of her having the leopard print scarf! I really really wanted to buy it but it is too expensive... I like her bag too!

Love the bag. Why is the black Escalade what celebs always get driven around in?? I'm really curious. Does any one have any idea?

Isn't the idea of this posting to comment on the type of car she's chosen to use and not her clothes? The Toyota Prius is a great car for the environment, but pricewise cannot compete with similar cars that run on petrol (gas). Hopefully as the technology becomes more widespread and other car manufacturers offer alternatives, hence competition, the price will come down. Also the rising cost of petrol will be an added incentive to use a car which does not rely on it.

I am not one to sing the praises of the Prius, and I have read from numerous intelligent sources that the environmental burden of producing and developing each hybrid car is about 10x that of producing and running an old petrol-quaffing banger. New developments are nice in theory, but in practice the world'd be better if we didn't change our cars every 8 months and just ran each one we owned into the ground. There'd be little demand for new cars, so manufacturing waste gases would decrease. ...but that's too easy and cheap an option for any government to support, right?

I have to agree with Passerby @ 7:19. If we drove small to moderately sized cars, drove less, drove responsibly, hung on to our cars, as Passerby said, and took care of them, we'd be in much better shape. The idea of buying into a transportation solution like the Prius is great, but it's not a simple green answer. It's complicated, and you do have to figure production energy, battery life and battery waste impact into the mix. Still, I think she's sending a message that it's not necessary to drive around in a big hulking gas guzzler and that is a positive thing.

Um, newer cars get better gas mileage and are sometimes better for the environment. There's a reason they banned the use of specific cars in California. There are some much older cars that produce tons of air pollution as well. I just don't completely agree with running a car to the ground as a means for bettering the environment. I think more research needs to be done for better fuel efficient vehicles such as hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

The oil companies are the ones who fund all the research into alternative fuels....enough said. They are not interested in alternative fuels. What will happen is the same thing that happened in the 70's more fuel efficient engines running on crude oil, forcing you to buy new and feed into consumerism. We go through this every 20 or 30 years.

Honda Civic makes a hybrid in Japan. Their plant is state of the art and little, if any polution is produced. Say what you will about hybrid cars, they are in big demand. Now if SJP wants to save gas, Mr. Ed will give his little pony a ride anytime she wants one. Say goodnight Wibur.

What I was trying to get at with my comment was that if we were responsible consumers, not obsessed with one-up-manship, then there would be far less cars produced, meaning far less cars needlessly discarded. Despite having a state of the art plant, do you think they magic the materials from thin air? And that the raw material the Material Fairy finds is found onsite and in the perfect quantities? You people need to wake up to the basic fundamentals of production before coming out with things like "they are in big demand". Lynching ceremonies in certain countries are "in demand" too, but it doesn't make it right. Geez.
