Nicole Richie Regrets Driving While Intoxicated

Becoming a parent changes you. I started to wear my seat belt on a regular basis after I had my daughter because suddenly it wasn't about me anymore. It was about her. I guess everyone goes through that awakening after having a child. Nicole Richie has reached a point in her life where she is able to reflect on her DUIs and regrets that behavior more than she ever imagined.

"We were watching the news once and they happened to be talking about drunk drivers. They started flashing up pictures of little children that had been killed by people driving under the influence.

"At that moment I literally felt like the worst person in the world for even trying to get out of that situation. That was our first real parent moment."

"There's absolutely no way I will do anything like that again. I never took life seriously before. I'm in a completely different place now. I owe my baby my life. I have a responsibility now. I have to really be someone I want my child to look up to. I think it's important for every child to look up to their parent. I want to show her the right path."

She should have realized this stuff way before she had a baby. Let's hope she means it, though and actually has learned something. What she did was pretty bad.

Either she's repeating herself or these are old quotes. This is she said during the Diane Sawyer interview. She was pregnant with Harlow at the time.

Whatever! so all the other innocent lives didnt matter..its only when your baby came into the picture that you decided to shape up and not drive drunk....please..............so selfish!!!!!

Only when she has something precious to lose herself does she (supposedly) realize the enormity of what she did. When she was caught DUI did she ever think about the possibility of her killing those precious to others? Why does she only wear a seatbelt regularly after she has had her daughter? What about during the pregnancy? What about anyway? Her publicity machine is in full throttle coming out with this hype. She must have something coming up she needs to promote. If you read the statement, most of what she says is still about her, particularly the last paragraph. Self-obsessed, talentless airhead, and that's being complimentary.

Nicole, do you regret being on meth to stay impossibly thin?

ugh. How the h.. does this girl get in the news? She's someone's daughter. That's it. Oh, yeah she's a former ? heroin addict, had a crappy tv show where she made fun of the working class, and she almost killed some people driving the wrong way under the influence. What else? Oh yeah, she just gave birth to an illegitimate child. I'm not judging her as I have no idea what she deals with -- but let's stop celebrating her! There are others doing much, much better with their lives...

You all have some very good points. I still like Nicole though.

While I certainly do not condone her actions in the past, at lest she has come to realize she was wrong. I can admire that she realizes and openly admits she was wrong, and will probably never behave like that again. So many people who abuse substances fail to see they have a problem and never change. I think she has. Lets hope.

Most people need a wake up call for things like this. Who are you all to judge what made her realize her mistakes? She was young and dumb. Cut her some slack. Now she's probably more mature than most people her age.

Thank you for pointing that out :) I think people fail to realize that others make mistakes in life (in her case huge ones), but the important thing is that they learn from them. When people are young they have poor judgment and believe they are invincible. I don't see anything wrong with her realizing just how much her actions can impact others as a result of having a child.

I just love how Hollywood uses being young as an excuse to break the law. Give me a break.

Wonder how much regret she would feel if she hadn't been caught and her reputation sullied by the stupid things she did thus making it that much harder to reinvent herself as super mom? Whatever.

At least she realized she has made mistakes. Not EVERYONE is perfect. It was a 'wake up call' for her and she learned from it. She is still growing as a person and having a baby matured her more.

Glad Nicole has wised up....

It is kind of funny to hear that some people said bad things about nicole when she did something wrong, and still say bad things about her when she is trying to live in a good way.

We all make mistakes. I can picture myself going the wrong way on the expressway and I don't drink and do drugs! You have to give her credit for changing her life. She's definitely in a better frame of mind now and taking responsibility for her life and then some.

Now the hard part's gonna be learning how to not make that child a spoiled brat..
