James McAvoy Appreciates Upbringing After Trip To Uganda

James McAvoy used to think that he had a hard childhood due to the economic status of his family. He was bitter about his grandparents raising him in Glasgow and had a "working class chip" on his shoulder. Well, that all came to an end after a trip to Uganda while filming The Last King of Scotland. He saw firsthand what real poverty was and now has a different view of his life.

"I used to think that (I had a tough upbringing). I used to have a bit of a working-class chip on my shoulder, because the area I come from is so rough.
"But then I went to Uganda to make the film The Last King of Scotland and I looked around at the poverty there, and I realised that, in relative world terms, I’m actually super-duper, upper-class, through-the-roof posh.
"Any chip I had on my shoulder about Glasgow was insulting to the people who lived in other parts of the world, and it made me completely re-evaluate my place in it."

  3. Passerby says:

He just seems so NORMAL! I hope it lasts. I think it’s very cool that he’s been married to his love for so long — and that she looks so normal, too — and I’d hate to see him get sucked into the whole Hollywood scene…

  4. Heli says:

funny, I’m actually wearing her top in yellow.

  5. Aurelia-Noelle says:

Wow his wife has some serious legs! I just don’t see how, with all the excellent flicks this guy has been in and continues to be in, he will not become a part of the crazy Hollywood life. In truth, who knows, I wish him and his wife all the best!
