Matthew McConaughey Names His Son Levi

Boy! Isn't this the day for understanding why celebrities chose the names they did for their children. Matthew McConaughey has named his son Levi Alves McConaughey. No, it isn't after the jean company. It's actually a nod to Matthew, the apostle.
He wrote on his Web site that "Levi" is another name for the apostle Matthew in the Bible. "They were, in fact, two names for the same person," he said.
Said McConaughey: "This particular 'time' represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible: 'If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.'"
Is Levi pronounced like the jeans Levi's or is it pronounced "levee"? Does anyone know? It's a common name in French, "LĂ©vi" and it's pronounce "Layvee". So just wondering...
It's not a french name, it's jewish/hebrew. Anyways, I like it.

Levi is a beautiful name. The pronunciation is of no matter. Just as the pronunciation of 'Marie' verses 'Mary'. In school, most of the teachers called me Angie. I like Angel, and use it when my parents don't introduce me to someone. Levi is a blessed name. And, as for biblical reference, how many of you can remember "first-hyhand" what pronunciation Abba gave when he named Levi? Pronunciation is pish-posh, and none of your business, unless, should you meet him, personnally, and- given that case- it will ultimately be HIS choice.

My brother-in-law's name is Levi (yes Portuguese it is pronounced Levee), i like that name. It's a common enough but not too common name. :)
Levi is a good, strong name. I have both a cousin and a second cousin (who are not related) that are named Levi. They just pronounce it like the jeans. But, like others have said, since Camilla speaks Portuguese, it might be pronounced with an accent.
