Jessica Simpson Was Booed During Her First Country Concert

How terrible! While Jessica Simpson walked on stage to open for Sara Evans, she received a mixed reactions. Some were happy... and some were vocally unexcited. After the booing took place, Jessica addressed the crowd,
"I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a
girl from Texas," Simpson told the crowd. "I'm just like you. I'm doing
what I love and dating a boy."
Not sure if that quote was entirely thought through... but she tried to appease and relate to the crowd. Didn't win them over... Us Weekly printed concert attendees' quotes from a local paper:
- "I'll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert."
- "She's an embarrassment to country music."
Thankfully, there were some supporters.
- "I actually like her country songs better. She has a great voice, plus, she's adorable."

"She's an embarrassment to country music." Ummm. AAALLLRIIGHTY THEN. How about "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk"? Is THAT song NOT an embarassment? How about TOBY KEITH? Is HE not an embarassment to that genre and AMERICANS IN GENERAL? I honestly think it took major balls to address the crowd like she did. A lot of less-brave singers would have burst into tears and fled from the stage, or just verbally attacked the entire audience a la Kanye. Or, you know, she could have done a weird little jig and later blame her performance on acid reflux syndrome. Sorry. I couldn't resist. I'm still rooting for this Simpson girl, for whatever reason. She honestly seems like a nice person, and COUNTRY MUSIC HAS SUPPORTED FFFFFAAAR WORSE!
Jessica does seem like a nice person. I don't think that is the issue. Although she is talented, she is not a country singer and that is why she is receiving so much flak from the country genre. I don't understand your comment about Toby Keith. Why would he be an embarassment to Americans in general? Not trying to start anything by disagreeing with your post; just wondering why you think that about Toby Keith. I do agree that country music fans have supported far worse than Jessica, but they are truly country singers who started off in that genre (with a few exceptions, i.e. Jewel). Again, not trying to bicker. Just wondering.

Well, I find Toby Keith's blatant xenophobia to be a little disconcerting. He's one of those "go and kill all them towelheads" types." He's a horrid man. Nothing will convince me otherwise -- unless you can find some lyrics that show a little tolerance instead of fear and hatred for other cultures.
toby keith says that about towelheads? go get em toby! the towelheads are out to kill us so whats with the tolerance of their culture? Are you kidding me?

She tries and tries, but she fails yet again.

I was so sad to hear she was booed. Personally, I like her new song and am looking forward to buying the whole album.
This is a case of people just hating on someone for the pleasure of it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with her singing country. It's actually way better than her trying to compete with Britney and Christina. But I am not surprised that a lot of people have so much hate. What they don't know is maybe some people who haven't listened to country before will because of her. Nobody knows that. And if those people who were there hate her so much then don't even bother go see her.

She wasn't the headliner - she was opening for Sara Evans, which is who most concert goers went to see. I think it's terrible that she got booed, but I can't see I disagree with the sentiment. If country is in her soul like she claims then why didn't she start out there instead of pop? I feel like she only went to country because she couldn't sustain her career in pop music, or in the movie industry for that matter.
awe, how dare they be cruel to her! she is a good singer who keeps to herself! what a bunch of morons at that concert!
So sad...Jessica doesn't deserve being booed.
From my understanding it was just a small group drunken people who were booing at everyone. It wasn't bad as the tabloid making it out to be. I hate country music anyway. LOL. She sure packing on weight!! I don't really like her, she's too much of an airhead and too phony.
Now what does her gaining weight have to do with her singing, Did you really have to throw that in there?!?! And just to let you know, she's not fat by any means, she looks like an average american girl. You must be very self consious of your wieght to say that she got fat! Let's stick to the subject people!
an "embarrassment to country music"!! Thats rich! with all the hillbilly's in country music and Jessica Simpson is embarrassing? Man I wish they would have gotten a picture of that guy, could have been extremely humorous!
Your use of "hillbilly's" when referring to country music is amusing. Hillbillies are who started the genre of country music. Jessica Simpson is far from a hillbilly and that is why she doesn't fit into this genre.
You're right she doesn't fit the "hillbilly" mold. She is not sleeping with her brother, she has all her teeth and she bathes.
LOL. That's funny. She does have a pimp for a dad though.

Way too much hate... they could be doing something productive with that energy.

Totally blown out of proportion! My friends that were there said it was like a teeny drunk group and that's it. EVERYONE else was very into it and enjoying it and she did REALLY great. I have never cared for her but suddenly I feel very protective of her. I liked the new song, the first Jessica Simpson song I've ever purchased. I am really hoping she does GREAT in country. ;)
hell they should have left, i never understand boo'ing in the first place.
I know someone who has met Jessica Simpson on multiple occassions and says she is very down to earth and very nice. I don't think she deserves all the negative press or the boos.
Jessica has just become everyones shitting spot ever since she broke up with Nick. Get the fuck over it MOST marriages end in divorce why do people still hold that against her, get over it cuz she did. Sure Nick was nice to her but that doesnt make someone HAPPY plus you never know what people are REALLY like till after the cameras are gone. Jessica seems like an EXTREMELY KIND PERSON and there is NO REASON people should be shitting on her like they do. Jealousy maybe? Maybe people hate on her cuz she kind of does her own thing? Maybe they hate on her cuz she dates hot guys? People like Paris, Lindsay, Britney and Nicole all deserve the backlash but Jessica never did anything except follow her heart and yet people express so much hate towards her it makes me a little ill. I am not even a Jessica Simpson fan (but I do own a pair of boots by her that are bad ass) but I feel compelled to stick up for her cuz she seems to be nice. Thats all that matters.

You can't win them all you know. She will have to earn her respect in the Country genre, it is hard to be a crossover artist. She just cant let it get to her and she needs to resist making silly comments like that or else the fans will not respect her.
Personally, I like her better as a country artist, I think it suits her better. Will I rush out to buy a concert ticket to one of her shows? probably not but that is because I am not a huge country fan, I just think it works better for her voice. Just my 2 cents. :)
I'm not really a fan, whether she's singing her trite pop songs or her new country song. For me personally, she has never seemed to be more than a well-marketed product with a good public relations team. She's cute enough and sings well enough but I wouldn't exactly call her a great talent or a compelling sympathetic figure (at least I don't find her compelling). She's been worth an illegal download or two over the years but I wouldn't imagine actually spending money on her music. I don't like hearing someone has been mistreated or booed on stage, because that's just rude, but really, what can you expect? Not everyone is going to be a fan and if you aren't the concert's headliner, chances are, there will be people there who didn't specifically pay or particularly want to see you perform. Besides, the country music industry and country music fans are notoriously closed-minded. If she thought breaking through in country music was somehow going to be easier than pop music, she's not that smart.....oh wait....chicken of the sea, buffalo wings, LV on a camping trip. Yeah, maybe she did think everyone in country music would love her just because she's from Texas. Hmmmm, she'll get over it.
Never been to Country Thunder in Kenosha, but I HAVE been to Country USA in Oshkosh, WI.
If she was booed, it was probably because she came on looking like some sort of caricature of a country singer!!
At Country USA, if a group(singer comes on that people aren't too thrilled about, we tend to just wander away and check out the lesser known talent in the Miller tent until the main stage is finished. No booing that I've ever seen.
If they have the talent to be on stage, they don't have to dress as dumb as she did to make one think country singer. The boots and shorrrrrrt shorts are just too over the top to be taken seriously by anyone!! Does she want to be known for her singing, or as a hooker?
Big names have crossed the stage at Country USA over the years, and they show up in jeans or summer dresses to suit the weather and the relaxed atmosphere of the concert setting. The outrageous costume Jess wore was strictly to get the attention of the men, not to promote any talent she might possess.
If she is serious about doing country music, act like it, don't embarrass herself with the stripper outfits!!!
If she wants to be a hooker, there are countless corners for her to wear those "cuntry" clothes on!!!
I hardly thinks she looks like a hooker!!!
I am so not a fan of Jessica, but she is a human being, and only what 26 or so years old, Like I said I am not crazy about this young woman, but for the love of God, what do some of you people want,, to see her jump off a cliff, If you cant say something nice, just dont say anything at all, I feel sorry for her,, she gets blamed for everything,, I love love love the cowboys,, And I think what other teams fans say about her in do at the games are heartless and immature,, can you just dislike her in private, and cut her a break,

I think Country is where she belonged all this time, not Pop, and it's nice that she's finding her niche at last. I am not a big JS fan, but I hate it when people don't give others a chance to prove themselves, such as with the booing. Have a little compassion and patience, people.

She's a cutie patootie. I found her to be endearing on her reality show, and have yet to see her do anything worthy of such negativity. Sure she makes funny faces when she sings, and has a body most girls would kill for, regardless if she's the filled-out Jessica or the Dukes of Hazzard Jessica. I've never seen her vagina, mug shot or middle finger, so in my book she deserves some kindness.

how much weight has she gained?

She wasn't booed.

Plus youtube clips are up. The crowd seemed to be enjoying her.
For those of you who don't believe she was booed, I am a witness. I was there just last week, CTUSA in WI. She really did get booed, not by many, but those who did boo her were loud enough for her to hear clearly. You may not like her singing country, or even singing at all, but you have to admit that it was very brave how she addressed the audience after the booing incident.
Not true get the fact at www.tennessean.com
wow! at least jessica knows how to "hold her own" during times of criticism-not like a certain unmentionable who made a complete idiot out of herself at the VMAS almost a year ago...this girl will go far if she just keeps up the strong attitude and a "sweetly pure" omage...
GO JESS!!!-this is one girl who has earned my respect:0

Poor girl, I feel for her. It must be horrible being on stage and getting booed.
Sorry to hear that this lovely young lady was booed, What's the Big deal? I think it's great that she's crossing over to do some country. Like a lot of our great singers have done before her. Jessica has always had the voice and talent. So give the girl a chance you might just be surprised and wooed.
Country music is at a new low. So many 1-hit wonders from not so country "country music" performers. So why not Jessica Simpson? Her stint in pop genre didn't go too well, may as well try country--everyone else is--all you need is a hat, boots, and a belly button. People didn't like it when Shania and Faith crossed over into mainstream music because they "were leaving country behind". Yet how many crossed in? Where did all the good country music performers go? Why are the stepping aside for all of these non-talented wannabees? And why are you buying their crap?
She’s a sweet and very kind kid, bless her heart, but I seriously doubt she’s done her homework. She dressed like a Hee Haw stereotype at that show. That doesn’t exactly help the case of someone who’s trying to reinvent herself or traverse the chasms between musical genres (good job, Alanis). And while I certainly would not wish the worst on her, I see an extreme uphill battle in her quest for country music respect.
Jessica may very well be a nice person but at issue here is her talent and her marketing package. Like an earlier post read, "she tries and tries and fails again.." Jessica may have talent but she comes off as a cheeesy wanna be. She just doesn't have the staying power and that something special that folks embrace. As for her attempt at country music, there are a lot of vocalists that are trying to cross over to country and not all are making it. Even the big guns are trying one or two releases and are treading on thin ice. When a person like Jesica tries to venture into this new territory it just feels like another attempt for her to find sucess somewhere...not to broaden her horizons but to find somewhere that she can succeed. She should stick to the tween audience with the other pop tarts or just give it up. Country music is growing in popularity for a number of reasons with some great talent that comes naturally to the artists who are successful there today. Country music isn't a dumping ground for lackluster pop tarts. Country fans are smarter than that and will accept you if you have the talent and are real. Jessica comes off as well, a cheesy wanna be and country fans don't want that.
She's just another spoiled celebrity mess like spears, lohan.hilton etc.!
Her vocals aren’t the issue here. It’s her off-stage antics that really have the public in a twist. If her goal is to get us to feel sorry for her, well, she flunked big time. At least Nick Lachey had the good sense to quit while he was ahead.
