Alanis Morissette had just met the Pope on stage. As she exited the stage she didn't know whether she was supposed to walk in front of or go behind the cardinals who were waiting there.
She explains, "I'm post-Catholic; I don't know how it works anymore, so there was this awkward moment and I walked in front of them. They were all French and they were speaking about me behind me, saying how rude and horrible I was.
I speak French, so I bit my tongue the whole way out and they were just ripping me apart, and then right at the tail end... I just turned back and spoke to them in French and said, 'Thank you so much for your kindness.'"
Wow, so even clergymen talk bad about people behind their backs. Iguess gossip is universal, no matter what your status in life. :P
I find that rather amusing

I've been in similar situations... it's always SO awkward.

is she preggers or is that just a really unflattering photo??
Well, duh, its the human condition to act in that way. No matter what you are or what you do, we are all human and are suspect to the same types of behavior. We're just so used to putting these people, such as popes and other religious figuires, as god-like. So we think they never talk bad about people.
As far as I am concerned, clergymen are the worst on judging people. So full of themselves.

Agreed. They can suck it.

I hate hippocracy!!!(although I might not be able to spell it, LOL!!!)

MORE POWER TO HER FOR NOT SAYING ANYTHING. NOT SURE I WOULD HAVE ACTED THE SAME.

You know what's even more rude than walking someplace in an incorrect fashion? Being an upper-level member of a church and keeping silent as THOUSANDS of kids have been abused by your compatriots and later offering up some half-assed apology for it. Now THAT'S ill-mannered, in my opinion.

That's weird that she would want to meet the pope - she seems pretty anti-Catholic. Wonder why she would put herself in that position?
It just goes to show you that religion (and every one of them, not only Catholicism) is a question of power and nothing else. It's astonishing that anyone would believe in this crap.

I find it especially alarming that the Pope is considered a political figure by many people. And I couldn't agree more with your comment.

Good for Alanis. I thought she handled the situation well.

I've had similar situations, but I wasn't as graceful, I must admit.
