I Want To Believe... In Parasites

I Want To Believe... In Parasites

I can't stop thinking about the word parasite every time I see Amanda Peet. It's so bad! It's permanently embedded in my head. I'm trying to enjoy these great pictures of Amanda laughing and having a good time at the premiere of The X Files: I Want to Believe in LA, but I can't. It's also completely removed my focus on the two main characters from the event - Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny! Parasites. Just parasites. UGH.

I'm still trying to get my head around Gillian Anderson's comments recently that Pamela Anderson was wanted for the role of Dana Scully!! She says, "That was somebody (Pamela Anderson) who was more familiar to them in terms of what was on TV at the time. "They were looking for someone bustier, taller, leggier than me. They couldn't fathom how David and me could equal success... At the beginning, nobody trusted that I could do anything. I had no body of work behind me at all, and, certainly Fox felt very strongly that I wasn't the right person for the job."

I guess the parasite thing didn't bother me quite like it did you. But then again my kids are vacinated and I would do it again if I had small children now.

I have the same reaction to her. I used to love her but was really put-off by that parasite comment (and yes, my daugher is vaccinated).

get over it that she said parasite!!!! thats HER opinion and she is damn well entitleed to it! everyone gets too offended over everything and its ridiculous! just get over it you fat old cows!

Unfortunately her words do still swirl around her. The educated follow-up would have been better placed than the word "parasite". It wasn't just her opinion that made it linger but the vitriol enveloping the delivery of the word. Like she hissed it or something. Even an educated person looks ignorant (in this case, unfriendly) when stooping to name call. She seemed angry not passionate and that can hurt a cause especially if it's a controversial (life threatening) one. I'm not suggesting people should solely weigh any decisions on the advice of celebrities. It's an important choice we all make as parents.

oh for crying out loud, she already apologized....drop it already.

I didn't give her parasite comment a second thought. One because I don't have kids yet. Two because I would never take medical advice from a C-list celeb. Unfortunately for Amanda, she made a lot of mothers angry. Her fan base probably dropped by 80%. Sucks to be her right now.

What is she supposed to do apart from apologizing? I bet all of us have had to apologize about something once, only her opinion is public, but that doesn't make it worse.

Wow, who beat David with the ugly stick? He looks so happy to be there. NOT :)

I can't look at her the same way ever again. Whether or not you believe in vaccinations is beside the point. To call people parasites is such a strong cruel word. There was no sensitivity to the mothers out there that truly believe their children are autistic because of some of the vaccines out there. I am sure she would feel differently if she was in one of their shoes. I personally have lost all respect for her and have no interested in spending any money on her future projects.

Im with you Vera. There are some things people can say that you just never forget. Was it her opinion? Yes. Was it an ignorant one? Absolutely. MY opinion is that celebs need to get off their freaking soap box on subjects they are completely unqualified to give advice on. Oh, and she can kiss any time or attention from me goodbye as well. As a mom, she had widened her fan base. After this, she's got less than she started with.

This just shows how f*cked up hollyweird really is. Look at the face on David - wrinkled as an old boot and scruffy- and look at Gillian - smooth as the bun shes got in the oven. Society is pathetic ! Yeah men and women will never be equal in this department.

Amanda Peet and Gillian Anderson -- GORGEOUS! David Duchovny -- WTF?!

I think that the comment she made to Cookie magazine was deliberate, and more importantly, not really 'the words' of Peet. She has been schooled by Paul Offit, who works at the Children's Hosp in Philadelphia (he mentors her brother-in-law who is a pediatrician.) Offit is also the creator of the Rotavirus vaccine. Remember where "information," or in this case opinion, comes from. Don't believe the hype. Peet is doing public service ads, to be coming soon... maybe she is being paid to voice her concerns (and quell McCarthy a bit?) Hmmm.... I feel the same way you do. I used to enjoy Peet (in her minor film roles) but I have no desire to see any of her films. It is one thing to fill your kid with Mott apple juice to earn some extra dough for the college fund. It is another to call people ignorant parasites. It is extremity. What she said about autism, as well, and people looking for reasons in their desperate search because "they can't accept" was offensive. It is such a shame that we have a hard time learning from other people's experience. We have to go through something to really understand. Peet might have given that some thought. My kids are not autistic, but I can only imagine what this is like. I cannot truly know. I also cannot comment on the parents of those in the spectrum, because that would be sheer audacity.

Amanda what is wrong with you! It must be that no child you love or no close friend or relative has a child with autism. As the mother of a child with autism I am DEEPLY OFFENDED by your ignorant remark, misguided regard for vaccines, and cavalier attitude. Shots are not one size fits all. Some children with weaker immune systems are overloaded and HARMED by these vaccines. THINK BEFEORE YOU SPEAK.
Passerby (not verified)Passerby (not verified) said:
Universal vaccination actually protects children with compromised immune systems or other medical reasons for not being vaccinated as it reduces the pool of people from whom they could catch potentially fatal diseases. It is those who will not vaccinate their children for a true medical reason that such campaigns are aimed. I guess the "parasite" comment came from her belief that these people only have this choice because others do vaccinate their kids. Yes, her choice of words was offensive, but the truth is that if a large enough pool of unvaccinated kids emerges, the old epidemics of childhood killer diseases will resurface. I feel for you being the mother of a child with autism, (I know their challenges as I teach them), but there is no substantial, scientifically proven link between vaccinating children and the development of autism. But there certainly is irrefutable evidence that millions of children's lives all over the world have been saved by childhood vaccination programmes.
