Jessica Alba Won't Let Honor Work Until She Finishes College

Education first! That's what Jessica Alba promises for her newborn daughter, Honor. While it would be easy and tempting to get her started right away, Jessica insists that her child will not step foot on a set until after she's finished with college.
"When she finishes college, she can do whatever she wants. I think at some point all little kids express that desire, because they’re so used to being treated like a star."

you hit it right on Amy. and i like how she makes it sound like this kid will automatically just going to be a star. Who's to say that she won't grow up and want nothing to do with any of that stuff? Jessica needs to wake up and realize there is a world outside of hollywood.
I think she means that she won't allow her to work in HW, as in being a child star. She was most likely asked if she would let her kid work in the business as a child. Most actors are asked this question as soon as the child is conceived!!
I have to give her credit for wanting the girl to get an education! Many of the starlets now haven't gotten beyond high school (if that) and are realizing that they missed out on a lot of things we "normal" girls had by going to school instead of working in films and trying to keep a career going at that age!! Even Parasite Hilton made remarks the other year about missing out on things.. even if she sounded even more stupid with the way she worded her statements!
I disagree with that whole not working until you are out of college. At that point you don't have any skills or experience in anything except being spoiled and expecting everything your way and when you want it. You won't appreciate the value of a dollar and realize how hard (most) people have to work for it. Then again, Jessica Alba isn't necessarily the poster child for doing things that make sense. She's constantly putting her foot in her mouth to say the very least. Poor child will have no character except being a spoiled brat. I'm not saying she has to work at a fast food restaurant, but a little work when you're a teenager can't be a bad thing!

That's stupid. Finishing college without any work experience is not a positive thing. I'd understand she would say "I want my daughter to attend college instead of hitting all the parties".
Looks like she already made her firs million so what is she talking about. That baby has already worked!
Um sorry Jessica, once Honor is 18 she can do whatever she wants! If she wants to be an actress so bet it! I hope she is a far better one then you and that puts you in your place! you seem jealous of your daughter already!

I know right? Once again Jessica knows it all. She's in for a rude awakening if she thinks Honor will do whatever mommy says. Honor won't give a rat's ass what mommy thinks. When a kid is determined to do something, they're gonna do it. Especially teenagers and young adults.
I always have to smile when I hear first time moms make these set-in-stone predictions about their child's life and what kind of mom they will be. I did the same exact thing - and life...and kids...don't usually turn out the way you have planned.
I'm sure she'll be a great mom, though.

Kids need to work to develop responsibility, character, and the value of a dollar. Besides, you may have the ability to get them through high school because most of the time they are still 17 or just turned 18, but there is no way to force them into college. It's not that I don't like her, but she just says dumb things.
Jessica....please let your daughter follow her own dreams, not yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She may not have the right to tell her daughter what to do at 18. But if hr daughter refuses to listen to her mother, then she surely ALSO has the right to kick her out of the house and not pay for her education.
So when Honor grows up, sure she can do whatever she wants, but she should be wise to do what her mother wishes if she wants to live a good life.

Um did Jessica even finish high school? I know Cash went to Yale so maybe this "wish" is really from him.
Let's hope the baby takes after her father in terms of intelligence. But now that I think of it, didn't President Bush also attend Yale? :(

I agree with Ania's comments. I also think the headline is a little misleading. She doesn't exactly say, "I don't want my daughter to work before she finshes college" what she's trying to say is, that her daughter could pursue whatever career she wants after she's done with her education, whether it's acting or something else. people aren't reading the entire post and just jumping to conclusions.
If Jessica Alba said the sky was blue, there'd be ten comments here calling her stupid for talking about the sky. If Angelina Jolie said the sky was green, there'd be ten comments saying how awesome Angelina is for noting that "fact."

what an a-hole she is! Like th epp said, when she is 18, she may choose to not go to college. Really in life its not what you know its who you know, so college is overrated.
Not everyone wants to go to college. In high school they force you to pick a path that you want to go down, and not everybody is ready to choose at that time. I never went to college because there was no career that I wanted badly enough to go into debt for tens of thousands of dollars for. I think Jessica's heart is in the right place by wanting her kid to get an education before ever working, but in my opinion there are more important things than just education- like life/work experience and most importantly... learning the value of a dollar and earning money for yourself. In case you were wondering- I did find a very luctrative career without the college ed. I make more than all my peers... and have no student loans! :D
I shouldn't have said I make more than "all my peers"- I meant all my peers that I know. I'm sure there are other 25 year olds that make as much or more than I do.

Same here! I went to college because I thought I *had* to and did not know what i wanted to do with my life. I went down the whole "communications" and "marketing" avenues- who doesn't right?
I quit in my junior year and do not regret it a bit. I eventually went to beauty school and I am now an esthetican. I do facials, waxing and make-up. I work when I want and make DAMN good money doing it. No college necessary! I am able to be at home and raise my kids and have flexible work hours.
That is awesome- it's something I had thought about doing too, because I love makeup. So nice to do something you enjoy rather than being stuck in a career you hate after spending thousands to get there!

She's not talking about working in general she's talking about working in hollywood as a child. Jess did it, didn't go to college so she probably wants her child to go in the opposite direction at least until she is done with school.
I know I'm not the only one who actually read into what she was saying.
Good luck with that Jessica, my daughter is 18 and has a baby. The day they have friends is the day you loose any control you may have had over them. You can set an example till your blue in the face and unless the kids wants to learn from that example- your screwed. I have gone to school all my daughters life and she is not that interested. Just sayin
makes me wonder what life is like for Dakota Fanning, that kid that was in Jerry McGuire,etc.etc. and is now in his early 20's and look at how poor Macauley Caulkin felt about everything that happened to him... sad!
