Jonathan Rhys Meyers Says Actors Can’t Have It Both Ways

"All actors and performers, including myself, thrive on attention;
otherwise we wouldn’t do what we do. I read a lot of little snippets
about people saying, ‘I just want my private life’.

"But they can’t have it! It’s that simple. You’ve got the money and the
fame, but you’ve had to give up that one thing – so accept that, as
that’s how your life is going to be. If you don’t like it, find
something else to do."

*SIGH* I love him and not just for his mind.

  2. Passerby says:

True what this actor says, but keep in mind that the paps are FAR WORSE than at any other time in cinematic history. They are downright SCARY and unpredictable. A bunch of grown men running after a woman and screaming obscenities at her is scary. Period. Never mind that they have a camera and it’s considered “okay”.

  3. Passerby says:

What about that time the paps rear-ended Catherine Zeta-Jones’ car just to get her to exit the car so they could take a picture of her post-partum body and three-week-old newborn? Sick. Since when did being an actor/actress/storyteller mean being put in danger?

  4. Passerby says:

wow he is not only a cutey but he is SMART..I agree with him. Sure the Paps are crazy, but celeberties are our form of entertainment, and they need to realize that going into the business. If it wasn’t the case we wouldn’t frequent INO’s blogg site….

  5. CapturingLife says:

    I agree completely.

  6. Passerby says:

what a smart honest and realistic guy he is i didn’t that about him now i like him even more what he said was the exact truth which most actors and actresses tend to forget or try not to accept that you lose privacy in addition to gain fame and fortune , he’s so gorgeous it’s so hard to believe he’s the same age as colin farrell with a year difference.

  7. Li Doran says:

rys myers is amazing totally honest but above anything an amazing actor love that guy id never even think of having 3 in a bed but if it involved myers, and labouf,im toughy lmao:)

  8. Passerby says:

Truer words were never spoken!!.. i now have a lot of respect for this man.

I cannot stand hearing celebrities complain (oprah is right up there with them). They dream of being famous then when they finally are they complain about it.

My biggest peeve are the ones who complain about the paps then go and date ONLY celeb men or women (ie John Mayer or Reese Witherspoon)… i mean there are a lot of non-famous men and women they could date, they know damn well by dating a fellow celeb it gets them even more attention.

  9. Passerby says:

Easy for him to say when he’s not in the spotlight 24/7. I agree there are definitely some celebs who seem to seek the attention that comes with a famous other half. But Reese Witherspoon is a bad example. She and Jake took some measures to keep their relationship private and i’ve never seen them out and about in Hollywoods hot spots just to have the paps take some pictures of them. (Can’t believe i’m defending her, i don’t even like her :-) .

  10. Passerby says:

I agree to an extent. In the old days the actors were filmed when they attended events but not during their private times, ie. grocery shopping, childrens school events, etc. I still believe those should be left alone by the paps. The paps have gotten out of hand and some even provoke actors to “get a good shot” of them misbehaving in anger. I thinks it’s the same as stalking when they hound you as much as they do Britney. Poor girl, no wonder she went crazy, who wouldn’t under those conditions.

  11. Hubba Hubba says:

I see that picture and can’t help but think that I wouldn’t mind having him both ways…

  12. ohsillytwigg says:

hahahahah same…. any way he wants.

  13. Amy says:

I agree to a point. I don’t believe in invasion of privacy. The extent some of these paps go thru to get the shots is just down right sickening. I saw a pic of poor Britney on the beach the other day and a pap on a hanglider right over her taking her picture. She looked kind of stunned. I truely think family time should be off limits. I like seeing those pics of the kids as much as the next person, I just don’t always agree that should have been taken in the first place.

  14. Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

Unfortunately, in these days and times it IS true. It is the price of fame, and it does not look like the feeding frenzy is ever going to slow down. We are all here for this reason, right? I don’t think it is possible to be an actor/celebrity without it.

  15. Deb says:

I agree with him, also, to a certain point.

I don’t understand why the law won’t change for celebrities? Are lawmakers making a buck off of these or something??

Seriously – they should be allowed to take pictures:

    1. When a celeb is working on-set, or
    2. Anything that has to do with work – premieres, signings, etc.

They should not be allowed to take pictures when the celeb is NOT working. How would it feel if OUR job followed us around after working hours… salesmen at our house, managers flying overhead, people in your face about that business proposal while at the grocery store… you get my point.

Sure these celebs make a ton of money, but it is their “jobs”, and I don’t think they should have to sacrifice their private life for it. Especially when kids are involved.

On the other hand, though, there are celebrities out there who LOVE the attention and do anything to be out at the spots where they know paps will be. Those are the media-whores of the entertainment business and they deserve the camera-in-the-face, if you ask me!!!!

  16. kiki says:

I agree with you to an extent. Paps should better able to take any pic they want but at a very long distance. They have cameras for that. But I can’t help but wonder how the paps know where these celebs are every single moment of the day? I really don’t think they do. There is somebody tipping them off and I bet it’s the celebs. The main ones complaining are the ones that make such a spectual of themselves and their lives. And, anyway, some celebrities private life is the only thing keeping them relevant. When they have a movie or project to promote they want to be on the cover of every magazine and the topic on every gossip site…even if it’s about their private life. But when it’s all over they want to be left alone. Really don’t think you can have it both way. You can’t get something and give up nothing. If you want fame then up have to give up your pivacy. Ppl would kill to be in their place and they would be lying through their teeth if they said they don’t enjoy the attention.

  17. Miss_M says:

Well, I think the reason why celebs date celebs is that these are just the circles they move around. And a lot of non-celebs find it hard to adjust to the lime light their partner is in or can’t accept that they get more attention or attention at all. There is quite a number of famous people who manage to keep their private life private so those who cry that the press doesn’t leave them alone should take notice of those celebs who manage quite well without having their privacy invaded. Jonathan Rhys-Meyers is wrong to say that you have to give up your privacy. You don’t. Everyone has a right to their privacy to some extend. What I don’t like are celebs who first call the papers to make sure they get good coverage and then turn around and whinge about the invasion of their privacy.

  18. Kris says:

WELL SAID!!!! This should be on billboard for all the whiny stars to see. I ALWAYS comment with one similar to his, everytime I read a post about a star complaining. GO RHYS!!

  19. gretel says:

100% true. And everyone keeps saying he’s usually nice if someone stops him to take a picture with him. OMG HE’S SO HOT. Underrated actor, unfortunately.
