China Sues Sharon Stone

Earthquake victims are suing Sharon Stone for ONE BILLION DOLLARS over her comments on karma and the country of China. They're claiming that she has caused them "emotional distress."

The "Basic Instinct" star was recently served with legal papers announcing attorney Ming Hai's intention to sue her for harming Chinese people when she suggested the catastrophic quake last May was "karma" for the regime's occupation of Tibet.

"For the families who have lost their loved ones or lost limbs or suffered severe injuries, your ... statement and act has caused extreme emotional distress," Ming wrote, citing the controversial comments Stone made at the Cannes Film Festival.

She's already apologized for what she said. Doesn't this seem like a bit much? Or should Sharon pay up?

Ridic, she apologized admitted she was wrong and suffered the repercussions. Its time for people to move on and rebuild their lives, the truth is China IS NOT A NICE COUNTRY. They are cruel to all, animals, children and just people in general. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to speak what is on their mind.

Hell no, she shouldn't pay up! Freedom of speech which obviously China does not have. This is not a nice country. I wish we would pull out of the Olympics!

haha, wow who knew China would be sue happy like those in the States. Seriously though... if this and they are serious, then (a) $1 billion dollars is an amount they think will help them rebuild their lives, (b) the attorney could be dishonest or just want some sort of attention, or (c) $1 billion isn't really serious but to prove a point or something. If anything, I see her having to do some work relating to China as some sort of repentance. I think it's ridiculous.

First off, Sharon Stone doesn't have a billion dollars. While it is true, you can sue almost any person in the US for anything---this will be thrown out of court. I hope the lawyer has to pay for wasting the court and taxpayers time and money. Second, this is the US and we have a thing called freedom of speech, even if you don't like or agree with what a person has to say. Last time I checked being an idiot (like Sharon Stone) is not a crime. All of that being said, they could sue her in France, where she made the comments. I believe it is a crime in France to incite racial hatred---though I am not that familiar with the law. Anybody from France posting today who could clear this up?

Then can we sue people in other countries that say something similar about us when we have a disaster. Oh, I don't know, like when they said 9/11 was our fault becaues we are evil or whatever bulls@@t adjective they used.

Hey we have freedom of speach in America or we are supposed too. Sticks and Stones!!! For goodness sake this is stupid.

If every celebrity got sued for saying something stupid, well, let us say that lawyers would be very happy indeed.

A billion dollars that corrupted chinese government officials will pocket right away? Jeeez these chinese are stupid. Distress? they can barely read, all they do is work in sweatshops. how about chinese government causing distress to its own people??? i intensely dislike china, everything it stands for. despite its old history, its people are uncultured, rude, stinky, and have ''i only care about me'' attitude. forget about charity, helping people and animals. just visit your local china town and you will see what i am talking about. sharon stone's comment was untasteful but she has a right to say what's on her mind. as far as i see it china is a threat to usa.

Racist much? I agree that the government/policies in China are backward and dangerous, but what a broad, hateful generalization to make a statement that all its people are "rude" and "stinky" and don't care about "helping people and animals." Perhaps they seem that way to you because they can see the hatred on your face. Out of the billion + people in China, I imagine we could find more than a few that are loving, caring human beings who are trying to make the world a better place, and cannot help the fact that they were born Chinese.

Free speech = one of the things that separates us from China. Maybe it IS karma. I don't think she should have apologized in the first place. the world is too damn PC these days!

I agree with all the reasonable posters on here who said this is ridiculous and indicative of the degree to which China goes to cesor speech and punish anyone for saying anything the government disagrees with. absolutely absurd. suck it up China, you want to talk about emotional distress? how about you release all your political prisoners from jail and labor camps for criticizing the government or accessing forbidden websites or for not giving up their homes to the bulldozers for the Olympics.
