New Casting Rumors For The Next Batman - Depp And Hoffman
Johnny Depp as the Riddler? OOOHHH... tell me more! Rumor has it that producers for Batman want Johnny to be The Riddler in the next installment of the series. So, what you are saying is Christian Bale and Johnny Depp will have at one another on the big screen? {drool}
Casting directors are also hard at work convincing Philip Seymour Hoffman to take on The Penguin. He is simply amazing and I think it would be a great catch. Now, we have to wait and see if either actor will bite.
"(Producers) are convinced that the role of the Riddler is perfect for Depp. Johnny’s a pro. He’ll be able to take direction from director Chris Nolan and still make the character his own.
"And what better Penguin is there than Philip Seymour Hoffman."
I'm excited... really I am. But is it wrong to still want to hold onto Jim Carrey and Danny DeVito? They were PERFECT in their respected roles...

I thought the previous 2 movies with The Riddler and The Penguin were tied for the worst Batman movies of the bunch. Carey's performance was over the top. But I blame DeVito's movie on the director, Tim Burton. It was as if he didn't know when to end the movie. Both roles could use a "do-over". Depp and Hoffman would do well and redeem both characters.
Batman 2 was awesome, though not as good as the first. It couldn't get worse than Clooney and Arnold's butchering of the series. Val Kilmer did an ok job but his movie was ruined by Carey and that douche who played Robin. Actors like Carey, Clooney, and Schwarzenegger just aren't cut out for this style of film.
Those 2 seem like prefect casting for those roles.

I don't believe the part about the penguin. Didn't Nolan say, not too long ago, that the penguin character wasn't believable, and that he didn't want him in the movies...?
Yes, i read this too. According too Nolan no Catwoman, no Riddler, none of these over the top characters, therefore i don't believe this rumour.

For the record, I do think Johnny would be fantastic, he's amazingly crazy when he wants to be. I love it.
I just hope they don't recast the joker.

I think Depp would be great. He would really bring something new to the role of the Riddler. I love these new, darker takes on the Batman movies. Both have been awesome. I agree with not re-casting the Joker. It would be a huge mistake.

I'd be amazed if they re-cast the joker... considering how beloved that performance was. At least I don't see Nolan doing it. I really, really like the idea of Depp as the Riddler! I hated Carey's performance, actually. It was SO over the top and reminded me a lot of the performances Carey was doing at the time... none of which I really could even tolerate. I don't want to see the Penguin appear in any of Nolan's Batman movies. It's a character that just didn't make a lot of sense -- though I think DeVito did a great job in the role, actually.

I do believe that Jonny Depp would be a great Riddler!! He's convincing in whatever he chooses to do and I'm sure he could bring more darkness to the role.
I think that Jim Carry and Danny Devito's interpretations of their characters will live on with no problem, the new characters are darker and their were more characature (sp)
I think Catwoman would be a good addition to the next movie, considering one of the themes for the next movie will deal with Bruce Wayne coping with a dual identity. There’s a love connection between Bruce and Selina but they just can’t be together for obvious reasons. Riddler would also be good for the same theme, maybe figure out Batman identity and use it against him.
Johnny Depp would be a great Riddler. He can play that cool, calm, charismatic, but evil character. He could also pull off the Joker part if it were a very minor role and no close-ups. Be great if they could work Harley Quinn in, Zooey Deschanel would be perfect. If Poison Ivy, Alicia Witt would be great. And I’m down to four on Catwoman and can’t make up my mind: Shannyn Sossamon, Rachel Weisz, Olivia Wilde, or Connie Nielsen
