I think that it is a complete digrace what McCain is doing, he cannot win on his “Bush” policies so he is doinghis best to dicredit Obama and, to me, he is coming off as a grumpy old man. It makes no sense to normal people that he would use Britney Spears and Paris Hiltonin an political ad, it is just stupid.
I am not suprised, but I am suprised that no one is jumpping on McCain’s flip-flop, he and his wife were all over the airwaves saying this was not going to be negative. Now that he is losing in every poll imaginable, he goes negative. Is this angry old man who want running our country?
I don’t agree with Elisabeth Hasselback, or deny her her right to her opinion. However she goes about trying to convince us that she is right and we are wrong the wrong way. It is almost like she doesn’t give US the right to our own opinion. I find that SHE jumps all over everybody else and they are simply defending against her attacks. The give her credit to disagree but she doesn’t even try to see the otherside of issues.

Elizabeth has proven time & time & time again that she is narrow minded when it comes to politics, and that the only time she demonstrates an open mind is when it comes to self tanning and shopping. Why is ANYONE ever surprised at her Archie Bunker style of arguing her point? I get that Barbara keeps her on because she makes good television…but when this particular show aired? I turned the TV off. Elizabeth has overstayed her red-neck welcome, as far as I’m concerned.

I only watched 5 minutes of the clip because I got so completely sick of watching Elisabeth try to express her opinion and have the three other woman twist what she was trying to say. That’s not a conversation, that’s ganging up on someone. For the record, I think the commercial is over-the-top, but I can see the point of it. Obama is riding a wave of celebrity right now. The media loves him and he is told, basically, that he can do no wrong. John McCain is supposed to pretend that isn’t happening? Even the MEDIA talks about how much love and coverage they give to Obama. I don’t know about you but I don’t want a celebrity in the most powerful office in the country – sorry WORLD. I want someone who has experience and isn’t going to get the job because of a popularity contest and novelty. If Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Jack Nicholson, WHOEVER were elected, they would be elected because of who they are, not because they are the right person for the job. This election scares me. Again, no good candidates to choose from.
Well, I consider my self a somewhat liberal conservative (if that makes sense), and I am not particularly happy with either of these 2 candidates. Having said that I think the ad did ‘step over the line’ somewhat – I just think it was a little bit dumb, IMHO. Just stick to the issues. I believe that Elizabeth should have her say, and that the others should let her talk. Ridiculous as she may actually sound (or made to sound) she has a right to her own opinion, and she does make for good TV. She is surrounded by outspoken liberals and a little bit out of her league, I think.

Elizabeth is quite possibly the most annoying person I have ever seen in my life. I understand that everyone is entitled to their own view, but you do NOT have to shout over people, continue talking into the commercial break, interrupt, interject, and allow your emotions to get the better of you. It’s important to remember that YOUR VIEW IS NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT MATTERS! Everyone should be allowed to speak, and Elizabeth should not dominate the conversation because she is so passionate about her personal politics. Maybe she could learn something if she listened instead of shouted.

I would be ECSTATIC if they kicked Elizabeth off the show. She is rude, annoying, overbearing and RIDICULOUS. I used to love her, but now that I go to the gym every day at 11 (and watch The View), my opinion of her has completely changed. Watching this clip is a great reminder as to why I do not watch the view. No one on the show wants to hear anyone else’s “view.” All of the interrupting reminds me of the Jerry Springer show. I am very embarrassed for the women on this show. Someone should tell them how ridiculous they are!
This is what happens when you have 3 women who agree with one another and one who doesn’t. When the shouting started it was all downhill. I happen to agree that it might not have been the best ad, but Obama was being compared to a celebrity, and as much as I don’t like Paris and Britney, they are celebrities. The actual content in the ad was valid which most people are bypassing. The platform that Obama stands on is shaky at best with his taxes and foreign oil. Anything that Mcain puts out will be scrutinized.
Why is no one talking about the Ludacris Rap song? And it is funny that for months now Obama has had to slowly distance himself for MANY people because of things that had been said that he has agreed with and magically now he doesn’t. The whole point of the ad was to paint a negative image of Barack Obama. Paris and Brittany don’t have the best public image; that was why they were chosen. If they put the images of respected celebrities in the commercial then it would have caused the audience to have more positive feelings than using the images of two celebrities people dislike and make fun of. It’s really about image association. I think it was a silly ad but it was thought out and the two people in the ad were chosen for a reason. I understood exactly why the commercial was done the way it was done, I don’t see why they were confused… These commercials are just like marketing but instead of selling a product they are trying to associate the subject to the commercial with negative things.

I find the View quite annoying. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but Elisabeth gets jumped all over! And, McCain, just last Sunday, told George Stephanopolous that even payroll tax increases to support Social Security are not off the table.
Regardless of who is elected, we cannot continue to accrue such massive debt, pay for two wars, inflate benefits packages, and survive.
Rather than see such ridiculous ads and nonsense go back and forth, I would prefer to see real discussion.
One last thing. Why is it bad that a US President might be greeted abroad by cheering crowds waving American flags? It’s a lot better than having a President who is loathed around the world.

Clinton worked with a Republican Congress and many things got done, including a balanced budget. The Dems have caved on many issues with Bush like domestic spying and funding. And, with Bush, we sure don’t have anyone likeable.
I never understand why Americans are so freaked out over taxes. Its like as children you were all told stories that the evil tax man will come and get you. In Canada the richer you are the more you get taxed, it is a simple way for everyone to contribute fairly to the government so you can get the services you need. The only problem with taxes happens when the money is not spent properly, which is a whole separate issue. The poorer people would only benefit. If you leave things how they are now, its just getting out of hand. Rich people are getting richer making outrageous salaries. Why would they even talk about that ad on The View? Could it be anymore obvious that the 3 of them don’t care about anybody’s view except their own? It was an opportunity for 3 of the 4 of them to bash McCain, yet they whine and complain about how McCain attacks Obama’s character. It’s a race for President … people vote based on character and rarely policies (mainly because most people don’t know the candidate’s views). No kidding McCain put an ad out there like that. It got it’s point across! But that was never what the 3 of them wanted to see in it, so they didn’t.
It’s obvious that all of them just follow their party lines because that’s all they know. This is why I do not discuss who I plan to vote for. I am not the type to wear my political preferences on my sleeve. That and I am registered Independant, I am undecided as of now we will see what the debates reveal. This will be an interesting election that is for sure
Actually the best thing for the government to do would be to implement a sales tax. That way if you are going to make a large purchase say over $50 000 you would pay 7% taxes on it. It doesn’t make a big difference in the economy because frankly very wealthy people are going to make these purchases anyway. Essential items like food wouldn’t be taxed. As for poor people going out and getting a job, that would be wonderful. While there are some people who are just lazy and refuse to work, there are plenty of others who can’t find work and even when they are working can’t pay all the bills. The most important thing to remember is a lot of these people have children. Children growing up in poverty don’t tend to do so well. Why do so many of your doctors seek out positions in America? Your health system sucks and I hope Obama doesn’t get elected so that our country won’t become socialist like yours.

Canadians leave Canada because it is a country not a cult. We have a huge shortage of medical staff. There are so many nurses who live here and actually commute to the states to work, because they make more money. Education here is a lot cheaper. A year of university is about $5 000 plus books. So we have a huge brain drain of doctors, nurses and other medical staff that get educated here then go to the states. People can leave if they want a different lifestyle and would rather make more money than stay here. Luckily everyone isn’t like that especially the younger generation. The only thing we can do is make it easier for foreign doctors to get re-educated to work here. I went to the hospital for a minor injury and I had to wait for 3 hours. its ok though. I listened to music and relaxed until I finally saw the doctor, who was very nice. I suppose I would have gotten upset if Canadians weren’t so docile.
Although you are right America is not socialist. I should hope you vote for McCain because he would be much better for trade and for those Canadians who want to leave and make more money they can have jobs that US citizens can’t fill because they can’t afford tuition. I guess Canadians are like Jehovah’s witnesses pushing their socialism on everyone.

It matters little what country you live in. Politicians and their ads carry the same messages every campaign. Some of what I hear coming from the Republicans is nothing more than fear mongering–be it from the idea of some one who is young and maybe lacking in political experience, or because he is a different color than all the previous presidents and they are afraid of what that might mean if he is indeed elected. McCain is older–perhaps a little too old and does indeed have a number of years experience in the political arena, but sometimes that isn’t good either. What ever way you are leaning, please remember to ignore the mud slinging and negativity of political ads and vote! Just remember taxes will indeed rise no matter who is in the White House, and if the Federal Government doesn’t find a way to take your hard earned cash, state, and local governments will.
I’m sorry but where on earth are you getting that many Canadians go to the US for healthcare? It’s free here if you haven’t noticed! And crap? Sorry buddy but if i got hit by a car tomorrow and was required to be in a hospital room for the next five years I wouldn’t exactly be worried over the medical bills I would be paying. I don’t know what Canadian hospitals you may have attended but the majority are excellent institutes with well trained doctors who are there to help their patients, not turn them away because they can’t pay their medical fees.

it seemed like elizabeth was the one to have the longest amount of time to voice her opinions without getting interrupted but was quick to speak over the others when they began voicing their opinions. its crazy to me how she turned a discussion over the quality of ad into an obama bashing session. she had a valid point, but she didnt bother to understand what whoopi was trying to say, that it was an immature association to make (between britney & barack.) furthermore she completely revealed her bias – shes a mccain supporter, therefore shes going to think whatever ad he comes up with is justified.
Just my opinion: My complaint is that EH hasn’t grown in her position in nearly 5 years; matter of fact, she got worse. Usually people get better and better in their jobs/positions so I do not know what’s up with that, other than to say I truly believe she has emotional problems and could use some psychological help (and I am not speaking of her politics or who she wants in office). I also can no longer stand BW, who should’ve bowed out gracefully 2 years ago and who is now appearing to become a blathering, blithering idiot – wish her daughter could pull in her mother’s reins already.

It’s time to cancel The View, in my opinion.
Ugh this show is straight up annoying. While I am a liberal, I can’t stand the fact that Joy, Sherri and Whoopi never let Elizabeth talk. I can’t stand the woman, but they should at least let her make her point without being interrupted. Maybe then they wouldn’t have to keep questioning her about what she means. Sherri isn’t half bad, but Joy and Whoopi together drown everyone else out at the table.
As for the commercial-it was your typical dirty campaign ad. These type of ads are used by both parties every year. It isn’t surprising why McCain chose both girls to liken Obama to as putting George Clooney up next to Obama would set him up in a much more positive light, and thus made the commercial pointless for McCain’s campaign. However, McCain should have realized that this would cause such a stir. This is going to hurt him more than it will help him.
As for some of Elizabeth’s comments, one especially stood out to me. Where in the world to people get off talking about flip-floppers? Every single politician out there has done it, I can promise you. The way to get the nomination is simple-brand yourself as more of a conservative/liberal than you are right at the beginning to secure your base, and then slowly edge towards the middle to help attract those who have not yet chosen a candidate to support. McCain and Obama have both done it, as have many before them. And with either man in office, taxes WILL go up. You can’t have social programs or pay off billion dollar national debts without taxes going up to pay it off. The debt Bush is going to leave us is not just going to disappear when he gets out of office.

I certainly do have my facts straight. The proposed fuel rebate would be funded by a windfall profits tax on the oil companies who, contrary to popular belief, are not investing the exhorbitant profits in research, but rather on purchasing their own stock to keep the prices up. Even Murdock’s Wall Street Journal attests to this. I personally do not have a problem with the top 2% paying more taxes. Simply closing loopholes would help funding of projects. I am more concerned about the average American, who will get tax cuts, not increases.

When did politicians get so desparate that anything goes? This is not the first McCain advertisement or public comment that he has made that has moved me to support the other side – Obama. McCain just strikes me as dishonest – in much the same way Bush has been dishonest with the American public for 8 years now. When asked about another far fetched Ad against Obama he replied that “Oh it was just a little joke.” I saw the look of guilt, on his face when he said this and I don’t think we need another joker for president right now.
