Keira Knightley Doesn't Want People To Think She's Dumb

"It (dyslexia) makes me feel I am going to read absolutely everything so I can prove that I am not stupid.

I am completely uneducated. Not going to university did give me an
incredible driving force because it leaves you with a slight chip on
your shoulder."

-Keira Knightley on how not having an education and having a learning disability have given her drive to prove her intelligence.

Oh well, she makes more money than I will ever make, so I wouldn't call her dumb.

I never thought she was dumb.

So if someone does not attend college they are automatically uneducated? I've a great job and make decent money and was not able to finish college due to an illness in the family which made us all pull together and put other aspects of our lives on hold. Apparently since I did not finish college yet I am uneducated. I'm surprised I was able to do the simple math that is required to post this comment!

Yep. That would be the infamous "chip" to which Kiera referred.

I do get what you're saying. It can be a sensitive topic. I am the same, I fell very ill so the whole school thing didn't really work out. It wasn't really my desire anyway. My strengths are creative. Maybe 'uneducated' was the wrong word. I consider myself to be very capable and smart. I see it the way Julie Andrews does, though she never went to high school, life was her teacher. Learning is a journey, not a destination. Even after school is done, it's up to us to continue with it. Wisdom is far more valuable than knowledge.

Note that she didn't say that not going to college makes you stupid. Not going to college did not make you stupid, your inability to understand simple words like "uneducated" makes you stupid.

o pu-lease. stop reading more into the statement. it's not that serious. she is not saying ppl who don't go to college are uneducated. jeezus.

it is always amazing how people can twist your words and make their own meaning out of what you said instead of just reading what's there in black and white. when there is nothing to criticize believe me people will find something.

Love this pic of Keira, very pretty. I'm a fan of hers and think she's not only intelligent, but very mature, too. I like how she is her own person, doesn't try to conform to everyone's "standards" of how she should look or act.

Wow! this sure turned into something else- now back to Keira- I would have NEVER guessed she'd feel that way about herself b/c of the way she holds herself, plus the kinds of roles she takes makes her seem like a cultured Englishman (or woman).

I think she's just saying that attending college is a really amazing experience for any person -- young or old, famous or nonfamous -- because it IS. And being dyslexic must enhance her feeling of missing out on a traditional academic experience. The End. God, a pretty girl opens her mouth and people instantly jump on her for everything. I like Kiera. There are probably little girls out there with dyslexia who feel better knowing that someone like her admits that she struggles with the same problems.

Apparently it isn't ok for someone to voice an opinion on here without getting attacked. I can see where "pass" is coming from. Perhaps he/she just didn't word it right for the holier than thou crowd here. In no way did their comment sound like they were attacking anyone especially Kira - just voicing annoyance with the ever common assumption that no college = idiot in many peoples minds.

Back to the subject and not continuing on about a posters comment.

Wow... I will never get over this picture of Keira! Beautiful.

Back to the topic, I didn't know she had dyslexia either. She is so poised and mature. And I agree with Ernestine, I don't think she meant "uneducated".

I went to college (for psychology) and am attending graduate school for counseling. What have I learned? Mainly that those with learning disabilities, namely dyslexia, often have a different and creative way of making connections and view the world in way that others are often unable. Each person needs to be accepted for the way that they are. Keira has gifts that many of us will never have - gifts that cannot be learned in a classroom or library...

She meant to say, not being educated leaves one with a slight chip in ones bra.

You know, a size A chip.
