While on Good Morning America, Amanda Peet begged her audience to listen to her and not listen to celebrities! She said celebrities abuse their status to talk about things they aren't fully qualified to discuss.
"I’m not a doctor, which brings me to another point. It seems like the media is often giving celebrities and actors more authority on this issue than they’re giving the experts and that’s a sad fact. And I know that’s a paradox - that’s part of why I wanted to become a spokesperson, so I could say, ‘Please don’t listen to me, don’t listen to the actors, go to the experts.’"
She has a point there. :) Here she is with her daughter Frances Pen Benioff out and about in Beverly Hills.

I so agree with this lovely and wise lady. Look at Tom Cruise, thinking he's an expert at everything, and Madonna giving people shots all the time.
I have to agree. People give celebrities way too much power over their thoughts/decisions. It's quite creepy when you think about it.
The whole celebrity scene is a completely disgusting aspect of our society. We definitely allow people like that to have too much power over stuff that only the so-called 'experts' have. Even then, are the experts worth listening to?
Isn't she the one who called parents who don't vaccinate their kids parasites? What is she talking about now?
Yes! Finally... I've been thinking and saying this for so long. Why do we look to celebrities to help us make life decisions? Very few of them are experts of, well, anything. How many are high school drop-outs? How many have educations.... and what are their credentials? There are so many celebrities who have played a doctor, teacher, scientist, pilot, psychologist, etc., who think they're suddenly experts in the field. Well, if I need some acting advice, I'll know who to go to, but please don't tell me how I should medically treat my child, how the U.S. should act militarily or who I should vote for in November. Just keep doing what you do and I'll keep doing what I do.
There's such a fine line being discussed here, though. Because on the one hand, I think celebrities SHOULD use their high profiles to bring different causes to light (like Clooney with the genocide in Darfur, or Angelina Jolie with the plight of children in third world countries). But I agree that they should NEVER tell us who to vote for, or that women with post-partum depression are stupid if they take medication. I guess what it comes down to is that the average person needs to think for themselves, right? And let's face it -- we live in a society where a lot of people don't know HOW to think for themselves. And also a society where mere actors are put on a ridiculously high pedestal for -- what? "Working" three months of the year and making $20 million for it!
I totally agree. Well said!
Is she the one on 'ric h ki ss. c om'? Many quality singles there and one of them looks like her. There're more hot pics of her. She's very popular there.
"Please don’t listen to me" <--- the first halfway intelligent thing this woman has said to date. I have no problem NOT listening to her. I stopped believing or caring about anything she had to say the second she called a whole group of people parasites.
I absolutely agree with Doris. There is a fine line between bringing attention to a cause and trying to usurp the province of an expert. I think bringing attention to people suffering either domestically or internationally is a perfect use of that kind of fame. However, when it comes to any kind of medical advice, keep your mouth shut unless you were a doctor before you became an actor. (of course, actors can bring media attention to medical issues, like Jenny McCartney for autism, but that's entirely different than giving medical advice.) As for politics, even actors have the right to their opinion, and you can't demand they not speak--they are citizens of their country, too. As TUPRNUT said, most importantly, we should be thinking for ourselves.
ABOUT FKING TIME!!! Case in point--XTINA on Larry King talking about politics and the election---fking joke and embarassment.
