Miley Cyrus’ Cherokee Background Influences Purchase Decisions

Miley Cyrus was all about getting a big gas guzzler car when she turns 16 but her dad put his foot down and said that with her Cherokee background she should have more respect for the environment.

"I’ve begged my dad for the Mercedes G-Wagen, but
he was like, ‘Miley, isn’t there enough pollution in the air?’ We’re
Cherokee, that’s our background. And he’s like, ‘As a Cherokee, I
really don’t think you want to do this.’

And
I’m like, ‘Dad, I’m not that Cherokee.’ He wants me to take care of the
environment and look at hybrid cars. I’m stoked, that’s awesome,
especially with the price of gas. I want to spray paint it. I want to
rock out my car. I want to get my car pimped out.’"

I’m not that Cherokee…what does she mean by that?

Also, I think Miley can afford the gas prices. ;)

    She is SUCH a teenager!

  2. Jan says:

I think she means she is only Cherokee if it helps her come tax time. Im not sure about the states but here in good old Canada if you are a native indian you get all sorts of tax breaks. I even had a cousin who tried his damnest to prove he has native relations in his background so he would be tax exempt. It didnt work mind you lol

  3. skeptical at best says:

at 15 that’s how i spoke…sometimes. and i’m sure you did, too. give her a break.

  4. Gemma says:

As much as I hate this christian family and their crap antics, this actually makes sense. I love how people who are 11% of any ethnic heritage impose it like they were brought up in that heritage. Which originals cherokees in their traditional way praised Jesus? Her dad is complete fuktard. Hes probably the reason why she is so self hating to the point of amateur porn and extreme apologetics with the Leibovitz scandal. But this one actually makes sense to me more than her asshole dad. She isnt cherokee, she wasnt brought up that way, she is in disney for fuck sake. Suddenly to consider her heritage which is barely anything anyway is ludicrous. And I also have to wonder out loud, there is a huge misconception that native american tribes were somehow very concerned with conserving nature. No, they lived their life and they polluted their surroundings too. If they had the technology we do, they would do the same things. We do these things because we are human. The reason why Africa doesnt contribute as much to pollution as North America isnt because their tradition doesnt allow, its simply the lack of availability of the means and materials to do so.

wow you completely read my mind. Not to mention this whole native american trend is going on right now and its annoying and a little offensive in a way. And now that she suddenly realized she was she starts to buy all these native american things and she can say oh yeah its in my blood so i can, its bullshit. She went from colorful childish outfits to earth child and shit.

  5. CapturingLife says:

I thank my lucky stars that my teenager had no interest in being famous. LOL I cringe when I read peoples’ scathing comments toward Miley. She’s just a teen girl. Let her be a kid for pete’s sake! I agree with much of what you said Gemma. I give Miley credit for just being herself, acting her age and not trying to act all “old soul-like”, kwim?

  6. Isis says:

hahaha I’m not sure what the state laws are but definately a benefit in Canada!

  7. Isis says:

Where is the quote from? After those quote risky unquote photos, I thought disney sewed her mouth shut?

  8. Regardless of any lingering genetic material, Miley is about as Cherokee as I am a toaster oven.
    Girl is ridiculous.

  9. Mr. T says:

As a teenager, we had to pay for our own gas so having a gas efficient vehicle was a plus. Recently, I purchased a Honda Civic Hybrid. Great car, I like it immensely. It is a fun car to drive and cutting my gas bill in half is a nice benefit. The Honda Civic Hybrid is manufactured in Japan and the Japanese really know how to make a car! I always bought American cars until my Ford Taurus drove me to tears. My next car was a Nissan Maxima and that is such a great car. It is 10 years old and it drives as good as the day I got it. It gave me no problems at all. None, nadda. Hear that Detroit?

  10. V says:

Gee Gemma – Is it really necessary to drag religion into this. What the kid says at her age is really no big deal. And, why is the fact their a Christian family such a big deal to you? What’s wrong with that?

  11. Lisa Loeb says:

What a dumb excuse. He should have just said no. Everyone is ~ethnic~ nowadays. What a joke.

  12. alicat alicat says:

i am 33.3 % ajumawi and a catholic. get eduacated u can be any race and religion. i have cousins who coverted to the jewish faith and they are no less native. your blood is your blood. :)

  13. xmas caulfield says:

i think by “not that cherokee” she meant that she’s too selfish to take the environment into consideration when selecting her mad pimped out ride… unless her achey breaky hearted dad forces her to.

  14. Alex says:

    A complet idiot!

  15. TJ says:

wonder if his and her tour bus pollutes the air…? oh, surely not, that would be so disappointing to the cherokees………

  16. gretel says:

poor girl, she’s so uneducated. anyway, sounds like she’s saying this just to say “hey! I CARE!”. GOD.

  17. czarina says:

I think people who put down Miley Cyrus are increadibly hypocritical–unless they were all mature, saint-like creatures at 15 years old? At 15 I was immature, emotional, and made a lot of cringe-worthy, stupid mistakes. I was just lucky not to have it all reported for the world to read. (and criticize!)
I think it’s great that her Dad is trying to instill some concern for the environment. Good for him. I’ve questioned his parenting on occasion (with quotes about wanting to be his daughter’s “friend’ rather than tell her what to do), but there is nothing wrong with wanting your kid to be aware of both her heritage and the environment.
And, goodness, who dissects the nuances of a quip by a 15-year-old???

  18. Native European girl says:

This is a great example of the uneducated blind selfishness dumb bitches like her posess nowadays. Thanks to them our planet is f*cked and doomed…
(sorry for my English as I am not a native english speaker btw)

  19. Miss_M says:

Gemma is absolutely right. As for Native European Girl, are you honestly blaming all 15 year old famous girls for ruining the planet? I think you are a bit late ;-)

  20. dyinggiraffe says:

haha…i agree. i also like how this quote makes it seem like the ONLY reason billy ray cares about the environment is because they have some native american blood in them.

  21. Keli says:

    I think I get what she’s saying…

My maternal grandmother is Chicasaw, however, I was not raised within the Chickasaw Nation nor am I familiar with the traditions…I am now, personally beginning to educate myself on the history and traditions…

so although it’s a part of my heritage, I sadly cannot identify with that part of me.

If you can;t figure out what she meant by “not that Cherokee” you must be retarded. It means you have to go back about about 3 thousand years to find out that her great-great-great-great-great-great…grandfather was .01% Cherokee.

  23. Anonymous says:

    That comment was extremely ill-informed.

  24. I have been exploring for a little bit for any high quality articles or blog posts on this kind of space . Exploring in Yahoo I ultimately stumbled upon this site. Reading this information So i’m glad to express that I’ve a very excellent uncanny feeling I found out exactly what I needed. I most without a doubt will make sure to do not forget this site and provides it a glance on a continuing basis.

  25. Khalia Tak'anai'lana says:

I am of Hawaiian and Cherokee descent, but i am predominantly hawaiian, so i usually identify with that when asked. But i can see how she means not that cherokee, considering that she probably has some blood somewhere along the lines, but not enough for it to be significant. But why does being native have to do with being green? my my best friend is full a blooded navajo and she uses tons of electicity and wastes lots of things. race should not matter. Jusy cuz im hawaiian does not mean i should like to eat coconuts and surf right? Right. Same applies here.

  26. tiffanyyy says:

Perhaps she meant that she wasn’t raised all that much Cherokee…….with Indian customs and all that…idk…If I would have asked my mom for a mercedes at 16 she would have laughed in my face……lol and yea vera..she most definitely can afford the gas prices……

  27. grace says:

I think by “not that Cherokee” she means that there was probably Native American ancestry in her past, but that she doesn’t identify herself with that culture. My great-grandmother was Native American, yet when people ask me about my heritage, it is rarely mentioned. I was raised in a Euro-American home, where father’s French heritage dominated. As proud as I am of my family, I don’t identify with that part of my heritage because I did not experience it, wasn’t taught about it…. Perhaps that is what she means.

  28. BoN says:

She probably means she’s not that much cherokee. Meaning the she doesn’t identify with the cherokee heritage.

  29. Victoria says:

She meant EXACTLY what she said. The family has a Cherokee background but it’s not like she’s full-blooded and walking around looking like her ancestors. No one in her family looks remotely like the Cherokee indians. In addition, the environmental issues should be instilled in these kids very early on so perhaps the world WILL be a better place someday!

  30. nativemommyof4 says:

What does a Cherokee look like?? I’m just curious because its not like we walk around in our Regalia and dance for the mother earth everywhere we go. The whole native american traits, high cheek bones, slanted eyes etc etc are just genetics. I mean yeah we have them but so does the Saami in Northern Europe and Asians. Their not Native American.

As far as the environment goes I totally agree. I have four little ones under the age of 7 and I am showing them how to recycle and they pick up trash outside. It is good to teach kids that our mother earth needs to be respected because a lot of adults in this world don’t get that.

  31. C.Mo says:

My husband had a Trailblazer when we met. Oh how I wish I could get rid of that gas guzzler.
Miley seriously needs to stick to a little car that she can actually drive.

  32. Ernestine says:

This little moron needs to just NOT speak. EVER.

  33. lisa g says:

I was thinking the same thing about you.

  34. Anonymous says:

Ernestine why don’t you fuck off.

  35. chachi says:

I can not wait for her to go away. Although if she keeps speaking and being a brat her true colors will chase her fans aways.

  36. Anonymous says:

this fake toothed beaver needs to shut up!

  37. momster says:

C’mon people! Miley is FIFTEEN YEARS OLD!!! Who doesn’t say stoopid things when they are 15??? I’m sure glad no one was following me around with a camera and voice recorder, I would die of embarrassment!

  38. Ernestine says:

Ooooh. Speaking of fifteen year-olds — I know you are, but what am I? Or how about, I’m rubber, you’re glue. Whatever bounces off me sticks to you. Or something similarly asinine. Eff off, you stupid c**t.

  39. Passerbye says:

Ernestine…as far as I’m concerned, you may speak as much as you like. I personally love reading all of your posts!
