Did L’Oreal Lighten Beyonce’s Skin?

We all know that celebrity airbrushing is way out of hand. Sometimes magazine covers look nothing like the person they’re supposed to be! L’Oreal is being accused of lightening Beyonce’s skin for an ad campaign. When Beyonce signed with them for the contract, part of the deal was that they wouldn’t make any "radical" changes to her apperance.

L’Oreal gave the following statement:

"It is categorically untrue that L’Oreal Paris altered Ms Knowles’ features or skin tone in the campaign."

They might say that but pictures don’t lie. She’s beautiful as is, why did they need to lighten her skin?

  1. I’m not so concerned about the skin. It’s the hair that’s horrible!!! Still love ya Ms. Carter!

  3. Get over it. says:

I don’t think they did it on purpose. I mean if you’ve ever taken a picture before, you know that depending on the lighting & the flash, skin color can change, and be darker or lighter. If beyonce doesn’t have a problem with it, why should we!? Whoever pointed this out was probably just someone trying to bring MORE controversy of whites against blacks. get over it.

  4. What About the Hair? says:

And if anyone believes that hair is really hers, I’ve got a great bridge to sell you. It links Brooklyn to Manhattan. I’ll give you a great deal!

  5. Keira says:

I don’t think they lightened her skin. I think more light is focused on her face which makes it look lighter. It’s all about the lighting as it is with any pictures.

  6. jharris109 says:

Its probably just the hair color washing her out and making her appear lighter. But another suggestion would be that maybe she hasnt been spending a lot of time in the sun. One of my cousins is half black and she can pass for white during the winter but when shes out in the sun she gets really tan and almost looks native american. You dont have to be white to get a tan!

  7. Passerby123 says:

I agree with the majority here…her light hair washes her out so her skin looks lighter. But then why did they make her nose bigger and pointier??? Beyonce looks so much better in darker hair and has a cute nose – not sure why they would change that.

  8. gretel says:

The only difference between this two ads is: on the left – hi Beyonce! on the right: hello mr. transvestite, who are you? whoa you look manly.

  9. sandie says:

If I didn’t know her I would think that she is white or something like it.
The ad is so wrong, at least they should it adjust the color settings.

  10. Ellie says:

Puh-lease… b**** is doing it for attention since nobody’s talked about her in quite some time. Besides, isn’t she the one who DYES her freakin’ hair blonde? Retarded.

  11. Passerby7 says:

It doesn’t look like they lightened her skin. Look at the very right side of her forehead (left side of the picture)… it’s the same color as she normally is. It looks lighter because most of her face is angled towards a bright light that washes her out a bit. That in combination with the makeup she is wearing has that affect.

  12. VazquezGal says:

Her skin looks the same!!! It’s called lighting people!!! When shooting an ad or commecial they use BRIGHT lights. And *shocker* even African Americans are susseptabel to a little tanning when exposed to the sun. She does seem to have a little glow in the red carpet picture, but Loreal did not make her lighter (not on purpose anyways)

  13. Jenn says:

    It’s totally lighting and makeup…good lord…

  14. . says:

This is the silliest thing I’ve heard in a long time. First of all, the pics don’t even look that different to me (except her facial features look funny). Second, Beyonce would have had to see these before letting them be published. She would have noticed anything extreme. I’m just shaking my head here……………..

  15. hurleygurlie5401 says:

i really don’t see a difference at all. and lighting/flash make a huge difference too so whatever. and THIS IS NOT BEING RACIST but her hair is practically blonde so it’s like… who care if they lightened her skin it’s not like they have her blue eyes and a tiny nose!

save a heart, break a penis

  16. Ha says:

Her nose hasn’t been changed; its obvious that lighting makes her it look more prominent. Its exactly the same shape in both pictures. Why in the world would a beauty product company make it’s spokesmodel look worse? It makes no sense. (Yeah, I think she looks worse in the picture on the right)

  17. salidal83 says:

Ummm …… “molly white” I hope, hope, hope, hope you are kidding. In a sad and totally not funny way. Don’t know where you get your information from but maybe you shouldn’t repeat that outside of your own head. Skin lightensoap, really? Blech!! As a black woman with fair skin my complexion changes all the time. During the winter or if I’ve been inside too long(a few days) I get very fair( i sometimes wear a bronzer if i look a little on the ‘deathbed’ side). Summer time I’m copper toned and almost look like a completely different person. So i guess what I’m trying to say is don’t make such a broad assumption about a group of people. Oh and I do agree with others that it could be lighting or just a bad angle. Sometimes a pic is just a pic.

  18. Ms. Muffin says:

honestly, i’m not a fan of bee and i noticed that she tries to appeal the “white” crowd. this is an image, we all know that she’s black, but if A. Keys take a pic like this we already know that she is half-white!

  19. Passerby. says:

You roots are showing! Pot. Kettle.

  20. Passerby202 says:

in the first picture she looks BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. Tanille.Victoria says:

her skin does look lighter then the other pic but that could be achieved with lighting and make-up, i just don’t think the hair color works for her

  22. POSTLEWAIT says:

#@~~She looks SO beautiful. I saw her personals ID on wealthy men for beautiful women site “”"”"”C e l e b C u p i d.c o m”"”" last week. It is said she is dating young billlionaire on that site. Is she single now?

  23. RC says:

L’Oreal is lying. They did alter her pic to be lighter. But what pic out there has not been altered? Product advertisements all do it to portray a certain image. It may not look like her in real life but they are selling “an image.”

  24. Brianne says:

Hmmm, kind of off topic, but did anybody else notice that she kind of looks like gisele bunchen in the pic on the right?

  25. Keli says:

    I think it’s the lighting.

  26. Willis~ says:

    It’s called LIGHTING, people.

  27. babsyee says:

I don’t think they changed anything. I think it’s just her natural tone mixed with the lighting and photography. She’s just very light.

  28. ObamaisaMuslim! says:

It takes a Team of Photoshop Experts to make FUGLY sufferable!!! There are obvious differences in skin care and hair product needs between black & white.. it is actually RACIST to miss the differences!! Beyonce is OVER anyways.. old news. Just like the idiot Obama.

  29. Kaeli-ShaTon says:

this comment is to ELLIE: ok first of all dumb bitch her dying her hair blonde has nothing to do with l’oreal lightening her skin..so what r u saying? black girls cant dye their hair blonde? u are stupid and you are ugly too..an where the fuck have u been? beyonce is always being talked about she’s always on tv…u stupid white whorez get on my fuckin nerves..get a life.

  30. It’s actually a nice and helpful piece of information. I’m happy that you just shared this useful information with us. Please keep us up to date like this. Thank you for sharing.

  31. CapturingLife says:

Beyonce is like a chameleon..I’ve seen her with dark, dark hair and skin and then the next time, she’s got practically blonde hair and super light skin coloring. So, I don’t think they did it on purpose at all.

  32. momster says:

I agree with this, and I don’t even notice that much of a diff between the 2 photos shown. I’ll probably get blasted for that, but there it is. She is a beautiful girl and really needs no photoshopping anyway.

  33. dyinggiraffe says:

i don’t think they did it on purpose. the hair color in the ad is weird, and i think it washes her out. also, i think the lighting and makeup was probably a huge factor. if they did do it on purpose, then it’s completely screwed up.

  34. Jan says:

Maybe the darker skin didnt look as nice next to that hair colour?

  35. Ha says:

That’s what I’m thinking. The hair is obviously lighter than usual, I’m sure it needed to work with her skin tone. I doubt it was racially motivated – more for pure aesthetics.

  36. wow! says:

she looks way prettier as a black person. she looks ugly white! lmao hahahah no… seriously wtf

  37. woody says:

Yes they did, the should be ashame, she’s white as a sheet..she’s a black chick, let her be black her nose is pointer than mine! why would a black person by a product adverstied by a person wearing a wig..it’s obvious it’s a wig crazy

  38. I Smell Photoshop says:

Maybe L’Oreal is trying to be clever by saying *they* didn’t do it but the graphics people did. LOL

  39. rk says:

what’s even more weird than the whole skin color issue to me, is that in the ad, her head shape looks wrong. (top right side) like she’s missing a part of her brain or something. is it just me? her head proportion is totally off…whoever photoshopped it did a horrible job.

  40. Ernestine says:

Uh, OKAY. Because if ANYone needs her appearance altered at ALL, it’s Beyonce. Loreal is insane. The woman is drop-dead beautiful.

  41. MOLLY"WHItE" says:

this funny, she’s been bleaching her own skin for years by taking pills, applyng bleaching cream. a lot of people know……what’s the big deal. Not to mention, tons of black gals and guys are doing the same thing. I’m telling you, skin bleaching(or trying) is so common in the african community. even a 8 yro black gal knows what a black soap is. yea that’s what they use to kinda lighten their skin.
people who r u kidding? Beyonce must be so proud.

  42. Heli says:

Oh really, and how do you know that? You’re VERY ignorant and stupid! You don’t know shit! I’m black but I’ve NEVER seen or met any black person who bleaches his or her skin. Why the hell would we do that? Who says we want to look lighter? Times have changed my dear, we are not buying into the” white is beautiful” bullshit any more!

  43. gretel says:

I’m pretty damn white but I have a bunch of black cousins, my cousin’s husbands, etc, and I can’t recall anyone even mentioning a black soap. wow I must be ignorant! * insert sarcasm here *
