Anyone interested in seeing this movie? Valkyrie is most certainly not up my alley, but having Tom Cruise as the lead doesn’t hurt (most times). Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures announced today they will be releasing the suspense film, Valkyrie, from Director Bryan Singer, on Friday, December 26, 2008.
“We saw and tested the movie,” says Clark Woods, President of MGM Distribution.”and we believe a strong movie deserves a strong playdate.”

Tom Cruise stars in the suspense thriller, VALKYRIE, based on the true story of Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg (CRUISE) and the daring and ingenious plot to eliminate one of the most evil criminals the world has ever known.Director Bryan Singer (THE USUAL SUSPECTS, X-MEN, SUPERMAN RETURNS) re-teams with Academy Award®-winning USUAL SUSPECTS screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie to bring to life the story of the men who led the operation to assassinate Hitler. The film also stars an acclaimed cast including Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Carice van Houten, Thomas Kretschmann, Eddie Izzard, Christian Berkel and Terence Stamp.
A proud military man, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg is a loyal officer who serves his country all the while hoping that someone will find a way to stop Hitler before Europe and Germany are destroyed. Realizing that time is running out, he decides that he must take action himself and joins the German resistance. Armed with a cunning strategy to use Hitler’s own emergency plan – known as Operation Valkyrie – these men plot to assassinate the dictator and over-throw his Nazi government from the inside. With everything in place, with the future of the world, the fate of millions and the lives of his wife and children hanging in the balance, Stauffenberg is thrust from being one of many who oppose Hitler to the one who must kill Hitler himself.
VALKYRIE is produced by Bryan Singer, Christopher McQuarrie and Gilbert Adler. McQuarrie co-wrote the original screenplay with Nathan Alexander who also serves as co-producer. The executive producers are Chris Lee, Ken Kamins, Daniel M. Snyder, Dwight C. Schar and Mark Shapiro.
The film was shot in Germany at various locations where many of the actual events occurred, including the historic Bendlerblock.Recreating the atmosphere of urgency and paranoia inside the German resistance is a team that includes Singer’s frequent collaborators Newton Thomas Sigel (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X2, X-MEN) as director of photography and editor/composer John Ottman (SUPERMAN RETURNS, X2); as well as production designers Lilly Kelvert (two-time Oscar®-nominee for THE LAST SAMURAI and LEGENDS OF THE FALL) and Patrick Lumb (THE OMEN); and costume designer Joanna Johnston (MUNICH, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN).

dont think he was ever a phenomenal actor. at least in the past, he was good looking (according to some), so people would loosen their standards and swallow up his mediocre acting skills. these days, he is a has been, and people know him too much for his craziness. no way will i pay to see this movie, and i get the sense a lot of other people feel the same way i do.
I am interested in seeing this. I will probably rent it though.
I don’t like him as an actor either. He was plays these roles with such intensity that it’s really freaky to watch. Plus, I can’t stand his million dollar smile. Mind you, I’ve watched a lot of his movies because some of them were good, but he’s just way too over the top.
I REALLY hate to say this but he looks hot!
He looks old.
No thanks, Tom. Maybe he can be reborn as a younger alien next year and actually get some good movies.
no way i will give my money to this cult. i might watch it on watch-movies if i ever feel very bored. and i agree that he has never been famous for good acting. he was just very cute in his earlier days. i can’t enjoy anything with him anymore now i have read too much about his cult and crazyness. nonono.
Bill Nighy is a way better actor than Tom Cruise, with none of the ego and ten times the talent. He should get more attention.
its pretty messed up that everyone either bases their opinion of Tom on the scientology or his looks. hes not the only actor to have lost his mind over the years and yet we all watch their movies. i mean sure not all his movies are great but most of them are pretty good and we shouldnt judge the guys movies on his personal life. thats rude. youd hate for someone to do it to you so why dont we afford old Tom the same courtesey? plus for a 46 year old id have to say he looks pretty damn good.

Tom Cruise….I enjoy him in some things ie: Rainman
every time I see him, I think he look like a rodent…..every single time
I will probably rent the movie and watch with hubby.
I tought it was going to be realise in the summer then it goes to feburary 09. what happend now to put it in december?
I”m eagerly awaiting the release of Tom Cruises newest movie, The Valkyre. I thouroughly enjoy watching each of his Mission Impossible films, especiall enjoyed the best one i think; MI3. He is truely a gifted actor who compells one to watch his movie. His personal life should have no basis on critique of his performances on screen. I pay to be entertained, and he comes thru.
Hhe is ok actor most of it is made up by his PR team. I am not planning to see any of his movies. All his money goes to his cult relgion. No body wants to give it up to zenu.lol
Tom Cruise, yes. This movie…no. I seriously get my stomach twisted thinking about what this movie is about. I think actors pick and choose their movies to their likings, and Tom Cruise can get enough movies without picking controversial ones…therefore, I’m kinda ashamed to say I will never want to watch him again. I agree he’s a great actor but in my mind, gah, he is becoming more of a tyrant than I ever wanted him to be.
And they’re releasing it the day after one of the most important Christian holidays. I just don’t think it makes much sense.
what’s controversial about this movie? he plays a guy who was and is a hero
does anyone take him seriously anymore??!! he’s a freak.
My guess would be no one takes him seriously anymore. I’m sure David Miscavige and the Church of Scientology takes his money seriously though
I saw the trailer for this ages ago and he’s horrible. This movie takes place in Germany… so wth kind of accent is he using? He’s not! He used NO accent at all. The rest of the characters in the movie at least made an effort… and then you hear Tom with his extremely American brogue… I basically sat in my chair dumbfounded that a director EVER allowed that to happen. It’s so noticeable that you sit there thinking more about the sound of his voice than what he’s actually saying.
Based on the trailer alone, Im calling it a bomb already.
I agree with Callie. The buzz that I’ve read on the internet is that he’s awful in it. Tom Cruise’s days of opening a movie are over.
Cruise is controversial as a scientology leader
