Woody Allen Didn’t Know Who Scarlett Johansson Was

Well, obviously that’s since changed, but back in the day Woody Allen had absolutely no clue who Scarlett Johansson was. Now she’s his muse, but it all started by accident.

Woody said,

"Yeah, Scarlett was an accident," he says. He had hired Kate Winslet for Match Point but she dropped out at the last minute.
"I didn’t know Scarlett from a hole in the wall," Allen admits. But he
was in a bind. "I hired her and became totally captivated by her," says
Allen.

Now, like with past muses before her, Woody uses Scarlett for every movie he can.

"Whenever there is a part that fits, I would always call her
(Scarlett), as I did with Keaton for years," he says. "I did that with
Mia [Farrow]. And she never let me down. I think the same would be true
with Scarlett."

Can you imagine if Kate Winslet had taken the role in Match Point…then we’d probably have Kate in Lost in Translation and everything else Scarlett has done in the past couple of years.

Aw I love Kate Winslet…she would have been a great muse for Woody Allen. She’s an awesome actress. I don’t see how Lost in Translation is relevent though – that’s a Sofia Coppola film.

As it was never proved that Woody Allen molested his daughter, that was a very low comment. Mia Farrow did it for revenge without any care for her daughter, she was prepared to put a little girl through an ordeal to get back at him for his relationship with Soon-Yi!

so? i had no idea who sh wa either…

Match Point would not have been the same with Kate Winslet. Scarlett knocked that one out of the park.

Never seen Match Point and I get bored to death of Woody Allen. Scarlett is beautiful, there is no denying that, but I feel that Kate Winslet takes risks and never would have gone path of Scarlett, plus, much more talented IMO. I just haven’t seen anything I’ve liked with Scarlett in it. Tis all.

?? Lost in Translation was BEFORE Match Point, and it was directed by Sofia Coppola, not Woody Allen. Woody Allen used Scarlett in Scoop, and now Vicky Christina Barcelona. There’s a whole internet full of information out there, use it!

Vera said everything else Scarlett has done in the past couple of years. Not everything that she has done for Allen. You have eyeballs (2, I assume) in your head, use them!

i was going to say the same thing about lost in translation coming out first. i also didn’t really think match point was THAT successful and i think scarlet would still have other movie roles.

love kate winslet & she is a much better actress.

  11. Ernestine says:

Comparing Kate Winslet to Scarlett Johansson is like comparing Food Lion to Neiman Marcus or something. Just…no. Kate is superior in virtually every single way.

    Except that Scarlett is gorgeous!

  13. TheLookofLuv says:

Kate has a greater range than Scarlett in my opinion. Scarlett always looks out of it, bored or lathargic (sp?)… Scarlett just has certain “assets” that inspire Mr Allen.

maybe one day woody allen can sexually molest scarjo’s kids like he did mia farrow’s… aw.

Ok. The entry was about Scarlett Johannsen being Woody Allen’s muse, sparked by her involvement in Match Point. The point was that after he cast her in Match Point, he wanted her in everything he did. Vera then said if it had been Kate Winslet in Match Point (who might have instead become his muse) then she would have been in the subsequent Woody Allen projects. That part makes sense. Throwing Lost in Translation in there (implying that it was a Woody Allen project that was made after Match Point, and that Kate might have been in it due to her new “muse” status) made no sense. I get what she was TRYING to say, but the only movies that would have made sense to cite are Scoop and VCB. I get the “last couple of years part.” But not “LIT and …last couple of years.”
