I think it's a stupid name and why so long? Not impressed.

Anonymous,, Anonymous,, said:

It's not long. Zuma 4 Nesta 5 Rock 4. 13 letters is not long. Mary Catherine is longer than that. So is Annabelle Christine. (As examples using normal names).

Isn't hentai a kind of pornography?

I think they meant it's long because there are three names plus the last name.

Zuma is a girl's name. It's a form of Zuleima. In Arabic, Zuma and Zuleima mean 'peace.'

Yay for a baby, for the name. How horrible for the baby! Poor kid is going to be fighting that name for the rest of his life. At least they have the money to legally change it when the poor kid gets older and begs to get rid of it. My question is: was that a planned name, or was Gwen on some really good stuff when she named him?

IF this is really their child's name.... I seriously doubt he will be "fighting that name". He is celebrity offspring - and you see who Kingston's playmates are - nearly ALL of them have unusual names. Soon it will be the 'normal' names that are the odd ones. While I'm not so fond of this name, I'm all for different names. Sometimes the old ones are just that - old and boring.

Studies have shown that unusual names like that are more likely to NOT land you a job, and affect not only how others view you, but whether they take you seriously. And actually, MOST of Kingston's playmates have normal names. Shall I name a few? How about: Sean Preston, Jayden, Shiloh, Max, Violet, Isabella, Milo, Wyatt, and Sadie to name a few. CNN recently did an iReport about strange or different names. It's filled with stories of people gifted with strange, odd and otherwise never heard names. Their accounts vary from person to person, but I see one fairly common theme; childhoods filled with teasing, harassment and name calling. Why make childhood any more difficult that it already frequently is?

It's the whole Jamaica/reggae theme again. Kingston got his name because of Kingston, Jamaica. This kid's name is Nesta because of Robert Nesta Marley (Bob Marley). The name Marley would have been better though.

Sammy-xx Sammy-xx said:

Love the name - im sure he fits it to a tee

since i was about 4 years old i wanted to call my son not just Kingston but Kingston James - James is my Grandfathers name- I got soo anoyed when Gwen and Gav 'stole' that name from me and now they've 'stole' another one
Nesta
we got a dog and my mum wanted to call him Nesta or Marley i was against it because i wanted to call my children that and it felt wrong

also just an FYI from a Bob Marley super-fan[i think that might be an understatement] Nesta is actually Bob's first name but when he got his passport when he was 16 his mother (Cedella) switched his first and middle name because in Jamaica Nesta is a female name

I'm sorry I just do not like it, not even for quirky. It sounds like he is named after beer and iced tea. I know there are a lot worse names out there. Tula does the hula from hawaii comes to mind, poor girl. Michael K says it sounds like a planned community in Arizona, I agree with that.

I agree. I also like Kingston James McGregor Rossdale, but Zuma Nesta Rock Rossdale is just strange! I also agree w/ another poster that at least it's not a generic name, but still! I think she could've picked something a little more mainstream than that! The poor kid is going to have to go by "Zuma" for the rest of his life. His only saving grace would be if they did decide to call him "Rock".

It might be trendy and satisfy the narcissistic tendencies of these "celebs" to call their kids ridiculous names, but it is the kid who has to live with it. Do they regard their offspring as separate human beings or just extensions of themselves?

What a God-awful dumb name. It's sad that celebs want to get so much press and be so "out there" that they'll resort to picking random letters from the alphabet to arrange a "unique" (ridiculously moronic) name.

okay for one people the "long name" is actually really common in England. Gavin has it, Kingston has it. And even in the US it's really common.

Anyways.. that name is HORRIBLE. WTF kind of drugs has she been on?! I grew up with a hard name (mostly for a girl) but that is even worst and MEAN.

btw Vera.. your captcha thing isnt working for logging in.

My my my we are a judgmental group.
As so many of you have said Zuma Nesta Rock is not my style, but I appreciate them for sticking true to themselves and their styles despite the harshness they would get (*are getting*) in return. I’m sure they considered their child’s feeling in the name. And I am sure Zuma will love his name, and live up to every inch of individuality that comes with such a unique name.
Sure Zuma may not be the “it” name now, or ever for that matter, but someone has to be the trend setters. Think of all the Aprils, Madisons, Jadens and Jacksons out there...someone had to start those trends. Some parents out there had to go way out on a limb and name their kids something totally different so that we could have some of the amazingly unique names we have today. So maybe that should be taken into consideration before we trash Gwen and Gavin’s decision to name their child a name that they obviously love and hope their child will love as well. Maybe you should consider your own name and the first person who was given your same name...would they have felt the same about it when they got it as when you got it??
Just food for thought!
Congrats to Gwen, Gavin, Big bro King and Little Zuma!

Anonymous said:

The "harshness" you feel this couple is getting over naming their child pales in comparison with the potential for teasing such a name places upon him. In "sticking true to themselves and their style", are they perhaps being a little selfish in imposing it on their child, and using him as an extension of their own self-expression? What you interpret as harshness is more compassion and concern for the child. There is a real world out there, which can be challenging at times, so why make it needlessly harder for your kid? And names such as April, Madison, Jaden and Jackson are hardly in the league of Zuma Nesta Rock!

Zuma Nesta Rock!! Hello, what planet were they on. Nothing cool about these names. The poor kid, life will be hell when he grows up. So those parents needs to stay cool, relevant and keep pumping out music, then he will have cool parents and the other kids won't care about his name. Phew.... that was long winded.

I'm pretty sure their son isn't going to grow up and put on a navy blue suit trying to get some desk job somewhere so having a unique name will most likely be a problem for him in his adult life. And as for kids teasing him, kids will tease for anything regardless of what your name is. If it wasn't his name it would be his hair, clothes, teeth...something. You can't name your child based on what bloggers believe narrow minded, people of limited creative independence will think years down the road. You name them something that means something to you that you can share with them later in life...which is why my daughter's name is Ever and my son's name is Tregen Ernest (third generation Ernest..ok so I named him that to avoid having him be Ernest the third...ew. Ernest is a "normal" name but I don't like it.) N-E Who...If you ask a child to name anything you will hear how creative they really are. Kids might not think his name is so weird if they don't hear such intolerant and programmed garbage from adults.

i think it's true insanity that people think kids get made fun of for having weird names. kids make fun of everyone for something, first of all.....second of all, if the kid is cool and not a nerd, then it works to his or her advantage....and taunting usually stops by middle school, cuz no one gives a **** about each others names that much by that age....and who is really that affected still by beaing teased about something so trivial in elementary school? this doesnt even happen.....it's just something everyone feels the need to say when they hear a weird name. My best friend's name is simone, and maybe sometimes kids called her "simon" or something, but she's JUST fine, and everyone was really jealous that she had a cooler name than them........so....yeah. stupid.
