Katherine Heigl Told To Pick Up Her Cigarette By Police Officer

While hanging out with friends, Katherine Heigl finished her cigarette and threw it on the floor. A police officer watched the actress improperly dispose of her trash and told her to PICK IT UP! Woot! Woot!
After Katherine threw the butt in the trash, he gave her fair warning.
"The officer told Katherine to pick up the butt and throw it away in the trash, 10 feet away," the source says. "He added that he'd fine her next time he catches her tossing trash on the sidewalk."

Yay, yay, yay! This is my BIGGEST pet peeve. It's the same is littering. Would someone just toss a paper bag down on the sidewalk after using it? Usually no. How is that different than a cig butt? Just because it's small doen't mean it's not littering. Good for that cop! Put your f*cking butt in the proper recepticle. Better yet, stop sucking on cancer sticks.

maybe because putting a cigarette butt in a trash can is dangerous. if it's not completely put out it can easily start a fire. you never know if someone's thrown away something flamable. there needs to be more public ashtrays so that people can dispose of their butts safely.

They do have "public ashtrays" everywhere. It's a new thing. (At least they have them here at every bar, restaurant, etc). They're some plastic dispensers with a long, tube-like neck designed specifically to put out the cig. Plus you can't throw away anything else in there so there's no chance if it starting a fire.

This is my pet peeve too! In every public outdoor space if you stop and look around there are always cigarette butts everywhere. It is so ignorant. I especially hate when I am driving and some idiot in front of me throws a cigarette butt out their window and it either hits my car or sparks all over the road. If I was a cop I would be all over these people just to teach them a lesson in respect. No consideration for the environment or those around them. They may be the most considerate person in every other aspect of their lives but I find many smokers oblivious to social and environmental norms when it comes to their dirty habit. I'm sorry but the topic of smoking really pisses me off. I understand it's an addiction but it is one of the most rediculous habits in my opinion. It looks uncool, it smells awful, it's dirty, and it's sad. I will, however, credit those who are at least respectful and dispose of their butts properly.

I wish there were more public trashcans with those ashtrays on top of them like I've seen a few places in my area. But then again, the irony is that people STILL throw their butts around those receptacles. I think most people are lazy and that's why they do this.

GOOD!!! I'm glad officers enforce things like that. I don't know why smokers think they are above others and can't take the time to throw their trash IN trash bins or cigarette trays. All those butts REALLY add up and contribute to waste pollution drastically. Disgusting, and arrogant, and completely stupid. Have some respect for the earth and people around you.

Yup as a previous smoker I would NEVER consider putting my butt in the garbage can. It must have been a proper cigarette ashtray sort of place. If it wasnt then that cop was very irresponsible. It could most certainly start a fire.

If you want to smoke yourself to death, go for it, but don't make me suffer the consequences! Don't smoke where I have to walk right through it, and don't flick your butt out the car window or on the ground! I know not all smokers are awful people, but most of them I have encountered have no respect or consideration for others when it comes to their nasty habit. I know a lot of smokers who are really nice people, but they are also the ones who drop their butt on the ground or throw it out the window!

Here's an idea (and coming from a smart ex-smoker): when you're done with your cigarette wiggle the cherry out, stomp on it and throw the butt in the trash can. WOW that easy? It makes me sick in NYC with all the smokers throwing there butts everywhere when there are trash cans on every corner. It's littering and i'm not sure why the cops don't enforce the litter laws on this. Then maybe we could get rid of parking tickets with all the revenue from smokers littering.
Katherine should stop smoking immediately as she needs to protect her only two assets. Without her chest, she would be talentless.
