Barenaked Ladies Frontman Survives Plane Crash

Barenaked Ladies frontman Ed Robertson escaped serious injury after surviving a plane crash on Sunday.
The singer was reportedly piloting his own boat-plane from Baptiste Lake near his hometown of Bancroft, Ontario, but struck trouble after the aircraft entered woodland area.
Local police claim the craft was wrecked after it went down in the woods but all four passengers survived unharmed.

Sgt. Jeff MacKinnon tells Canadian paper The Intelligencer,

"At 12.30pm a Cessna 206 was taking off from Baptiste Lake, lost airspeed and entered a wooded area west of the lake."

He added the four passengers managed to escape and reported the crash.
A spokesman for the band adds,

"Everyone is fine and that is the important thing."

Thank goodness! I just LOVE Barenaked Ladies. My favorite song is The Old Apartment, but the acoustic version. Couldn’t find it on YouTube. Which one is yours?

I thought his hometown was Scarborough (which is a district of Toronto).

BNL are great. I saw them for the first time when I was 10 years old and they played at my local arena before they were famous outside of Canada. Old apartment is a definite classic. My husband plays it really well too!

Oh my God – I almost had a heart attack reading this! I love, love, LOVE them! My favorite song is “Jane”…the live version. “Apartment” is in my Top Five.
    I’m SO glad he’s okay.

i had no idea people ever actually really liked this band??? even though i was 11 and should have loved them, i still thought they were annoying. *BUT* i am glad everyone was okay. just because their music is stupid doesn’t mean i wish death upon them.

Wow, these guys have had the luck lately, Steven with his drug charges and now Ed’s plane crash. Any who, as the above poster said, these guys are from Scarborough, the “scary” part of Toronto, not Bancroft. Bancroft is cottage country here in Ontario, so Ed was probably headed there for some R&R.
Seen them, love them, Call and Answer my favourite to date.

  8. Stephanie B says:

oooh I forgot about Call and Answer. That was a great song! I’d have to say that The Flag and their cover of Lovers in a Dangerous Time are my faves.

Steven Page is actually what most would consider to be the “front man” of BNL, although Ed does sing and play guitar.
Bad luck for them though, I’m glad he’s ok.

i like the little known songs that don’t get radio play like “intermittently” and “conventioneers”.
my roommate is a rabid fan so i have lucked out in seeing them a ton of times in good fan club seats. the best was a performance in Toronto at the CBC studios that they recorded for an album.
i was duly impressed that my roommate didn’t charge the stage and cling to Ed for dear life until security pulled her off. so, you know, kudos for that:P
