Madonna's crew is very unhappy at the material girl. She is living the life of luxury while they are staying in a $92 motel room each night after her concert ends. She flies around in private jets while the crew has to... fly commercial. The staff is angry and they want more.
Several of the 250-strong staff are said to be unhappy at their travel and accommodation arrangements for the mammoth jaunt, which began last month (Aug08). It is claimed they were furious at being booked on no-frills airlines while the Material Girl flew by private jet.
Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper also reports that there is growing resentment after the singer recently stayed at a $20,000 a night castle on the Cote d’Azur, while some crew were put up in a $92.50 a night hotel.
A source tells the newspaper, "Everyone is absolutely furious with her… they feel they are being treated like second-class citizens, despite all their hard work over the last few months."
What do you think? Should Madonna spend more money on the accommodations and travel arrangements for her crew? Or is the team expecting too much?
PS - This is my absolute favorite outfit a celebrity has ever worn traveling. In three years of writing this blog and decades of reading the tabloids, I have never seen someone travel in a robe. These pictures are from last week, but since I had to write this story up, I thought WHY NOT post them!?

I'm no fan of the material girl but no one is twisting their arm's to work for this show. If they don't like their accomodations, they can quit can't they?
I don't know how other artists tour but I can't imagine they let their crew fly 1st class and stay in 5 star hotels. I'm thinking that an average crew for a tour would be 100 people. That would be extremely expensive to do everything 1st class for the entire crew.
I think I read somewhere that her crew is 250 people!
They are her employees. She can put them up anywhere she chooses. I'm sure their travel arrangement info was in their contracts when they signed on for the tour.
What a bunch of whiners! Surely they don't expect the same accommodations, first class travelling and perks as Madonna? They are not suffering any and need to quit their complaining. They are not the star of this tour. If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen.
Ok... so they all have a job touring with Madonna around the world, doing shows, seeing places. Why are they complaining? No one is paying to see Madonna's crew. They have places to sleep, food to eat, clothes on their backs and yet they still have the gall to complain? Oy.
Ugh, I can't stand this woman.....but agree with all of you: they're her employees, and shouldn't be complaining. What they're getting sounds pretty fair to me.
I agree but i imagine that a 92 a night motel would be a piece of crap, I've never stayed in one for that price though so I could be wrong.
It could be worse. She could be making them stay in Motel 6's. Don't get me wrong they are clean and all that but they are no frills...no room service or bath tubs--just showers. In the end how long are they in these rooms to care how much they cost a night.
I can't see the problems with the accommodations but her management is a little silly to expect a crew of 100-250 or whatever it is to fly commercial with all the problems that entails. Surely it would not have been a reach to hire a 737 with standard seating arrangements to get the crew from A to B. She's only screwing herself if her lighting guys are stranded on another continent.
I don't know, but $92 actually sounds like the cost of a pretty decent motel/hotel room. Sure, it isn't a palatial suite in a castle, but it's not a bunk on a tour bus, or a dorm in a youth hostel!
That's why Madonna's the boss!
Her employees are lucky they don't have to cover the costs themselves!
I'm sure if most of these people were working for her, they would be complaining as well. It is not as if, she could do the things she does without her crew, otherwise she wouldn't have them. But her ego seems huge, $20,000 a night hotel? That doesn't seem excessive, that is some people's salaries, and almost as much as my student loans. And yet she goes to Africa to make it look like she cares about other people, someone who spends so excessively on themselves and can't spend generously on the staff is selfish. I'm not saying they need all the fancy, unnecessary frills, but it does make it look like she is unappreciative of what they contribute and not worth much, who would like to work for a boss like that? Not good for morale. Sorry this is so long, but with all the money she has and makes on tour, it's not as if she can't afford more. Just my opinion.
I hate it when employees start thinking. Let them quit.
Well, crew de la Madonna, it seems pretty much like the consensus amongst the general public is that you are a bunch of whinging ingrates who have a lot of nerve. Even people that aren't fans of the Queen (I am a fan) agree that common sense would tell you that ya'll are out of your damn minds to expect to stay the night in the exact accommodations as Madonna, the person who is the reason for the show and your jobs to begin with. I guess if you don't like it you're free to get to steppin'; I'm sure there are plenty of more worthy bastards that would be happy to take your place.
Crews never stay in the same accommodation as the band or artist! And at the start of a tour they haven't made any money - so she is spending her own money on any accommodation she is staying in. This sounds very much like made up gossip to fill the pages of a down market tabloid.
