Possible Brain Damage For Amy Winehouse

Possible Brain Damage For Amy Winehouse

Of course, this isn't coming from a doctor who's actually treated Amy Winehouse.  And anyone who's ever seen the scrambled egg commercials, "This is your brain on drugs," has to have some idea of what drugs will do to your brain.

Really, the whole story is just that people are worried about what her two overdoses have done to her grey matter.

Amy Winehouse may have brain damage after suffering two major
overdoses in the past 12 months where she binged on crystal meth,
heroin and cocaine, it emerged today. The singer also smoked pot in a
36-hour marathon session in July where she suffered such bad
convulsions, they were 'like a scene from The Exorcist', a close friend
told The Sun.

I keep waiting for this girl to turn it around but I'm starting to doubt if that will ever happen.

I'm just amazed at these 'close friends' who love to spread the news about her escapades. Can none of them help her? Can no one do something about this obvious train wreck before she crashes the final time? Have they done everything they can to help her? It just hurts to see someone in this much pain with absolutely no care about what happens to herself... I wish something could be done.

Amy is worth millions and millions of dollars. People who hang around her keep giving her drugs to keep her happy. Probably like britney spears and her people. Its a good life to be a hanger-on to a celeb. As long as Shes happy they're happy and thats F'ed up in a major way. **Insert Witty Comment**

Of course! We're all familiar with the commercials. "This is your brain. And this is your brain after your skull has been smashed open, poured into a skillet and lightly fried with a little bit of butter."

as someone who has lived in both oregon and colorado, i have a hard time believing that smoking pot for a "36 hour marathon" would result in exorcist-like convulsions. a) i know peeps who have been chronically (pun, yo!) stoned for YEARS - they may be a little slow on their feet, that's about it b) a 36 hour pot smoking marathon? it's reefer, not speed - homie would be taking a lot of weed naps c) bet your bottom dollar it was a crack smoking marathon

oh she doesnt look well at all....

Shocking! Not. Also, nobody can go on a 36 hour weed smoking "marathon"... or suffer "convulsions" from that. Puh-lease.

Maybe they just neglected to mention was that the weed was dipped in opium, and each hit was followed with a line of meth. That would do it.

as for weed......and I've had many years experience with the best product on earth (I quit though), presently in a hospital here in the city where I live, there are patients in a marijuana induced psychosis and seizures are indeed a possibility.......

I don't think Amy knows what sober is anymore....

I pray for her

Animal tests have revealed that extremely high doses of cannabinoids are needed to have lethal effect. This has led scientists to conclude that the ratio of the amount of cannabinoids necessary to get a person intoxicated (i.e., stoned) relative to the amount necessary to kill them is 1 to 40,000. In other words, to overdose, you would have to consume 40,000 times as much marijuana as you needed to get stoned. In contrast, the ratio for alcohol varies between 1 to 4 and 1 to 10. It is easy to see how upwards of 5000 people die from alcohol overdoses every year and no one EVER dies of marijuana overdoses.
This concludes that I find your comment to be uneducated and slightly offensive. Do your research, marijuana does more good than alcohol ever could. Why is alcohol legal and weed isnt again??? This "war on drugs" is a joke.

as for your comment greeneyedwomen or something (sorry if its wrong), marijuana doesnt cause permanent brain damage or mental disabilities There is a link between MJ and psychotic episodes in people previously diagnosed with mental disablilites, but this is not 'poisoning', simply a nasty side effect to an underlying cause

I think you need to do a little more research.

Poor Amy... I feel for her because she must be struggling with her addictions. You don't start out and say, "hey, I think I'm going to become addicted to a drug." I'm sure she is trying to stay clean but ya know, drugs change your brain chemistry and it's a life long struggle. They say, once someone tries Heroin their rope is already hung. Your brain wants it, period.
I hope she gets help before it's to late.

Honestly, wether it's from this "pot-marathon" or a crack-a-thon, is anyone REALLY that suprised that this girl may have brain damage? I think we'd all be MORE suprised if we were told she is perfectly healthy with no brain damage!

Biologically, marijuana affects the brain, heart, lungs, sexual organs, and depresses the immune system. The effects on the brain include distortion of the senses, confused judgment, and decreased motor skills. Operating machinery and motor vehicles becomes dangerous. Effects on the heart include rapid heart rate and high blood pressure. Respiratory problems include pharyngitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis. Marijuana has been associated with lung, head, and neck cancers. It reduces the T-cells in the immune system that are needed to fight off infections. In pre-teens, marijuana use can retard physical growth and slow down development. High dose marijuana use can cause decreased fertility, breast enlargement in males, and breast milk production.
short-term memory loss, shortened attention span, impaired learning, social withdrawal, and decreased motivation. Anxiety attacks, panic reactions, delirium, and hallucinations can occur. So pediatricians are very concerned about the harmful effects of marijuana and we do not support its use or legalization. short-term memory loss, shortened attention span, impaired learning, social withdrawal, and decreased motivation. 36 hour marathon? I smoke pot pretty much all the time. I'm not stupid, I still manage to get good grades in University. I do realize there are other effects but it's not half as bad as alcohol (which rapes my stomach) or cigarettes. Give me a break.

There's no doubt in my mind that her brain is half dead. If you see videos of her, the way she moves, talks... it's sad. Even if she did get clean she's not going to have anything close to cognitively functioning pre-drug use.

Let us note that there is a difference between jaywalking and playing in traffic. Frankly I find it hard to even believe she could stay awake for 36 hours on pot, unless there were other substances involved.

Why does anyone care about Amy?
If she was just "your average smackhead" living close to any of us she'd be looked down on and condemned.Instead she has people who don't even know her "praying for her".

The only positive thing about her is that she has enough cash to kill herself without having to sell her body on the streets or commit various other crimes to pay for her habit.

BTW I allowed 2 heroin addicts to live with me whilst they were "getting off smack" (yeah right,I was stupid but they had been very close friends before they became addicts) and it was one of the worst periods of my life so I know what I'm talking about!

substance abuse is drawing people into a never ending trap. people should understand (atleast after reading this article) that drugs and other addictions can do only harm to your body.
