Oprah’s Mother Sued For $155K

A high-end boutique is suing Oprah Winfrey’s mother, Vernita Lee. The woman owes Valentina over $150,000!

According to the civil complaint (obtained by Milwaukee Journal Sentinel), Lee, a Milwaukee resident, has had an open-ended charge account with Valentina Inc. since January 2004.

As of July 1, she has racked up a bill of $155,547.31 in purchases and interest, according to the complaint. (Lee was required to make a minimum monthly payment of $2,000 to the store, the paper reports.)
Valentina attorney Joseph Niebler, Sr., told the Sentinel that at some point Lee stopped making the monthly payments.

I wonder if Oprah is going to bail her mother out? I should hope so considering she earns $150,000 every nano second.

Buy what you can afford to pay for and stop showing bad example to young people. Shame on Oprah’s mother for being dishonest.

    @#$
She is my favorite. Just saw her personals ID on millionaires personals site “”"”"C e l e b C u p i d.c o m”"”"”" yesterday. I am wondering what kind of relationship she is looking for on that site. Is she single again?————–

From what I know about Oprah Winfrey’s past, it doesn’t sound like her mother was very competent. Oprah credits her father with straightening her out as a teen. So, Oprah and her mother may not be very close. And who on earth runs up at $155K bill without being able to pay it?

well she ran it up over a couple of years, not at one time. not that it makes a difference, it still is a lot of money owed. i hope oprah does help her out, she is her mother afterall.

I think if the mother ran up the bill the mother should pay it off. I dont for one second believe someone else is responsible for her debts. Why should she be able to go thru life with no regard for others and expect someone to bail her out? If she cant afford to shop at high end stores stop it and go to walmart.

Oh and Im so glad to see shes still with Stedman. For some reason I thought they were finished. Do they live together does anyone know? Or just friends with benefits?

She was a woman of questionable morals and a bad Mother who made Oprah sleep outside a house in a screened in patio as a kid because the landlady said she was too dark to sleep inside. She let her her lighter skinned sister sleep in the house. The kind of Mother who could do that to their own innocent child shows what kind of Mother and woman she is. It does not matter how poor you are you do not treat a child like that! Imagine discriminating against your own flesh and blood! She did nothing to help her become the woman she is today. Plus it was her scummy relative that raped Oprah too.
Oprah said she is who she is today because of her loving Father, not her scummy Mother.
Oprah has already done enough for her no account mother already!!!!!

Doesn’t she live in a condo that Oprah purchased for her? I’m curious as to whether Oprah was expected to pay? Just a thought, as I know she’s generous and very loving of people in her private life. I’m not suggesting that Oprah should pay – I’m just stooped as to why an upmarket store would let average folks accounts balloon out to such an extreem.

No Oprah should not bail out her mother. She’s been provided for by her daughter for a long time. Beautiful home and does anybody wonder where the money for her living expenses come from? I’ve met this woman when she was a kitchen helper at St Michaels Hospital and she didn’t earn that much of a pension to live the way she is. So she’s Oprah’s mother that does not give her the right to run out on her debts because of it nor expect her daughter to bail her out. Oprah worked to get where she is and that does not give any her mother any free ride.

Yes, it’s personal between Oprah and her mom, and yes, it sounds like she was maybe a lousy mom at one time. But at this point in their lives, and at the financial level Oprah is at, it seems really spiteful to not pay this off and keep it out of the news, unless it’s really a false charge and needs to be disputed. It’s not about money for Oprah, who has more than she could ever use. It’s either purely legal, or spiteful. Either way, it’s embarassing.
