Peace and love to my American brothers and sisters on the 8th anniversary of such a tragic tragic day
Like the twin towers stood stong over New York, let us stand hand-in-hand with our American brothers, never to be knocked down by tyrannical regimes. God bless America, Bush and our troops!
Vera, I just read your story for the first time, thank you for sharing it. I am so happy to hear that your father was not injured, I can’t even imagine what you were going through that day. (((big hugs)))
Today, let English and American citizens reach across the pond to each other and remember those we lost. Let our 2 nations stand tall like the 2 towers did and never back down to terrorism. Those 67 British victims will never be forgotten!
Vera,
Thank you for posting this.
I had forgotten to read your post last year. I saw it while at work, then made a mental note to read it without interruption at home that evening, and just didn’t get to it. Reading it today, my eyes are teary. Another year has passed, but the wound is just as raw as it was that day 7 years ago.
I can’t imagine having been there, or having that fear of possibly losing your father. I’m glad he was okay. Others, as we all know, weren’t so lucky. My prayers are with them and their families today and always.
Amanda, Miami FL.
I’m from California -and I was on a business trip in Dallas on 9/11. Everyone from my work group left the conference and I was alone in Dallas until I could get on a place to go back home. I’ll never forget those 3 days – I was sick to my stomach, scared, alone, and sorrowful for all of those affected by the attacks. Years later I hope people don’t foget all those that lost their loved ones and remember and be thankful for those that remain.
I’ll never forget, thanks Vera for posting that. I work for a (local) government agency and our flag’s at half-mast today, in honor of those who lost their lives 7 years ago. God Bless America.
God bless our wonderful nation, and those who serve to keep her free. To the terrorists; beware, this will not be forgotten. September 11, 2001 is a date that will go down in infamy, burned into the hearts and souls of each and every American. I pray daily for all those souls who were lost in this cowardly attack, and for the families of them who live with the horror of this tragic attack on freedom. America is strong, with many people forming independant opinions, but here we have the Constitutional Right to do so, and to speak openly and freely about it….this will never be given away, no matter what occurs. May God bless and grace with His glory, those who died due to that tragic act of cowardice, may the families of those people carry on knowing they will be never forgotten. God Bless America – One Nation UNDER GOD…..amen
R.I.P. my fellow Americans who died on this day seven years ago. We will always remember.
i was losing my aunt to colon cancer…she had just been diagnosed when 911 happened…the grief & absolute shock of all the loss on that day coupled with my own…to this day is just as sad as it was then…i know i’ll never forget…
God bless Mayor Giuliani. Thanks to him NY city felt a bit safer and a bit more hopeful that day and the days following.
I don’t want to bring politics into this sacred day, but someone pointed out to me that since 9/11 and since Bush has been President there has been no attacks on American soil. I never want to lose another soul to a terrorist attack…..unlike many of my fellow Newyorkers my vote will be going to McCain.
Thank you Vera for the most appropriate posting of the day.
WE will NEVER forget!!!
I clearly remember getting ready for school, when my mom knocked on my door and told me. It was such a shock, I didn’t understand why someone would want to hurt us. I’m more aware now, and I will never forget that heart wrenching day. Let us never forget the horror we all saw, remember that we are all Americans, and that alone unites us. We will forever stand strong, under one nation. My heart goes out to any and all who lost loved ones that tragic day.
God Bless America!
I was in drama class when it happened, I honestly couldn’t believe it. My prayers go out to all those affected by this tragedy, but i also thank God that here in North America this kind of thing happens rarely unlike other parts of the world where terrorism and death is a part of everyday life.
So many Canadians here don’t even care, some of them even say that Americans deserved it, it’s so sad.
Even as a little girl I have always loved the sound of planes overhead. Looking up in the sky they always seemed so far and away. That sound always made me smile. Now everytime I hear a plane overhead it makes me think of 9/11 and what a tragic day it was for all Americans.
I will always remember that day like it was yesterday. I was working for a high end furniture store at the time. We had a big meeting scheduled for that morning before we opened. Needless to say no one could focus on business and we just listened to radio. Finally the store owner told us we were not going to open the doors and to go home and be with our loved ones. I happened to have the next 2 days off and just stayed glued to the tv the whole time. Also I have never been to NY so I never got to see the twin towers.
we will never forget. your story made me cry Vera. My parents were flew out of NYC on sept 10th. I’m so happy and lucky they were ok, although we still went through much grief with the lost of many others
god bless america I LOVE YOU NY!
I was driving to work when the first one hit, and was at work when the second one hit. I started to cry, and i remember someone said that I was foolish because it didn’t affect me. I don’t cry often, but that day affected everyone. I cannot imagine being in NY or having family or friends that were taken away so suddenly. It truely is a day in history that will not ever be forgotten. Thank you Vera for posting, that is a beautiful picture
I’ve never met anyone that said anything of the sort and I live in Toronto. So please don’t say so many Canadians feel that way.
and we will never, ever forget…may all those who lost their lives on that day continue to rest in peace…
Vera,
I just read about what happened to you on 9/11 and I really can not stop crying. I can’t EVEN begin to imagine what it was like for you and so many others that had to sit and wonder where their loved ones were. I am my father’s biggest fan and I can’t even imagine watching what I did on that day and try to imagine my father being there. I bet you hold your dad a little closer now each time you see him. As far as your job, Everything happens for a reason…EVERYTHING….god bless america and vera, thank you for sharing…
Your site is great
This is a hard day. I still live with images of watching people jump from the towers as they burned(even on TV). My hubby saw the plane hit the Pentagon. It flew right over his head and he nearly ran into the car in front of him because everyone stopped. The silence around here was ominous , but the following days with American flags flying, groups gathering to pray, and strangers hugging was an even stronger image.
“Let’s Roll” – Todd Beamer, flight 93
I think this is one of those Earth-shattering events that ppl will never forget. You can ask anyone, of any nationality, what they were doing on when attacks occurred on that day and everyone will be able to tell you.
I’m from Halifax, a small Canadian city on the east coast north of Boston and I remember all the air traffic from all over the world diverted to our airport when they grounded the planes. I still remember rows upon rows of planes just parked on our tarmac. We did our best to accommodate the stranded passengers with limited resources not equipped for that level of traffic.
It was refreshing to see, in the face of such tragedy, how everyone came together and supported and helped one another. There were no borders, if only for awhile. I hope that that spirit of global community will live on .
I will never forget… my father is in the military so I was effected and my heart goes out for everyone deployed overseas, those who suffered a loss on that day, and everyone else effected by that day
We may move on but we never forget
Well that was a rude comment towards Canadians! I am Canadian and I don’t think anyone would deserve that, including you Americans. I think you’re sad! Not us Canadians! My prayers go out to all those who lost anyone on that day.
I agree with the other replies. I have never heard anything like that from fellow Canadians. I almost feel like you posted that comment to start an argument. It worked because we aren’t going to neglect to defend ourselves.
I find that comment terribly insulting. I live in Ottawa, Ontario, and on the Friday that followed 9/11, myself and thousands of other Canadians gathered on Parlimant Hill to honour the victims of 9/11… It may have happened in America, but Canadians felt the grief too!
Thank you Vera for posting that. Our hometown newspapers (the New York Times and the New York Post) didnt even have the decency to print anything about 9/11 on their front pages today. NEVER FORGET! God Bless America.
That photo gives me goosebumps. Thinking of my American neighbours to the south today.
this brought tears to my eyes…thanks for this post…GBA now & always…
I can’t believe it’s 7 years since the Twin Towers were destroyed and so many innocent people were killed.
I will never forget that day. I was in work when a friend rang to tell me what had happened. I couldn’t believe it.
Ireland is 5 hours ahead of New York time so it was early afteroon here when the attacks happened. When I got home from work I was watching the news all night. It felt like I was watching a film, what I was seeing didn’t seem real. What happened was so tragic. So sad :- (
How quickly time passes. We will never forget. Thanks for the post, Vera.
Thank you for posting this, it brings tears to my eyes. It’s still hard to comprehend. My prayers go out to the families/friends and those involved, God bless you all. And I appreciate all of our neighbors from other countries (such as on this post) for your care and compassion for what happened. I was home that morning and my Dad called me and told me to turn on the TV. We were discussing it, watching the first tower burn, then all of a sudden the next plane went in. It was surreal. Sorry, now I’m crying…….
As a fellow NYer…I will never forget that day as long as I live.
I visited the site once after the attack and I can’t bring myself to go back anywhere close to that area.
It’s extremely hurtful & brings tears to my eyes everytime I think about it.
I’d be really interested in hearing your experience during 9/11 Vera seeing as how you live in Manhatten. My mother was actually in NY that day FLYING BACK here in NC. I was TERRIFIED it was one of her planes, but thank god by the time that happened she was in Ohio, safe. Although she then had to spend an entire week in Ohio by herself because the planes were grounded. Its amazing how that day affected not only those in NY, but the entire country! I remember…

I read your story from last year and my heart goes out to you. My father also worked in the towers. I don’t think i have ever been that scared before or after. I was told later by the people he worked with that he had seen the first flight hit the towers and was going to run into the building to see what was going on. I just keep thinking that he was so lucky to get out of there. My heart goes out my friends, family, and anyone else who lost a loved one that day. 9/11 is a day that i will never, ever, forget…
I will never forget… my father is in the military so I was effected and my heart goes out for everyone deployed overseas, those who suffered a loss on that day, and everyone else effected by that day
We may move on but we never forget
I think this was our where were you when JFK got shot moment. I think it changed many people, and it will never be forgotten. Lots of people were from my neck of the woods, as I live in the Boston area. My family couldn’t reach me, and since I flew every week, usually United, they got the phone company I worked for to verify my phone had been in use when they couldn’t reach me.
I sent all my employees home, we weren’t getting a thing done, and I had two employees whose sons were deployed immediately as a result.
I will never forget. I will never forget when the second one coming in, going oh no, this is on purpose, and then crying because how many other planes were up in the sky?
I will never, ever forget.
I was getting ready for work when it happened. I listen to the Today Show in the mornings while getting ready in my bathroom and I just stopped everything when I realized it was more serious that day. When I was driving to work my boyfriend called me and told me one of the Towers fell and I was in total shock beyond the shock I was already in…I really felt like I was in a horrible nightmare driving to work. By the time I got to my office the other Tower was coming down. Oh gosh what a horrible day and to this day my heart is torn for the familes and victims of 9/11.
It’s days like these that remind me why my husband can’t be with me and our daughter and must be fighting in a different country instead to help keep all of us safe here and help bring our freedom to other parts of the world as well…. 9/11 we will never forget!
GOD BLESS
