Scarlett Johansson Returns From Rwanda

It's not like we missed her on the blogs as Scarlett Johansson is rarely seen these days. So who would have known that the actress just returned this week from her first trip to Rwanda with (RED), the initiative to engage business and consumer power in the fight against AIDS in Africa. During her four day stay, the actress visited projects and people who benefit from the flow of (RED) funds via the Global Fund into Rwanda to help tackle the AIDS and HIV pandemic there.
Now, that is something to be proud of.
“It was important for me to come here and understand the issue we’re up against firsthand. It’s not until you’ve had the privilege of meeting healthcare providers who are fighting the daily battle, heard from people who are now getting antiretroviral drugs to stay alive, and met mothers whose babies are born healthy because they received treatment that stopped transmission of HIV, that you understand that we absolutely can do something to reverse the AIDS crisis in African countries.”
“I came here with an open mind, wanting to listen, understand and learn; I leave with the overwhelming understanding that the small action of making a (RED) choice in your purchases in the West has an enormous impact on the lives of people in countries like Rwanda”

Well cant say it was for publicity since no one even knew she was going !
It always surprises me when people try and help those in other countries, when right here at home, 1 in 6 children lives in poverty, people are living with HIV and we have a homeless problem.
This is precisely why I never send money to countries whose government is as corrupt as Rwanda and the money only goes into their own pockets rather than helping its' own citizens.
i agree with you about the sending money to countries like Rwanda. the government is too corrupt and that money isn't going where it is supposed to be going. that is why it stays a third world country. if ppl clean up the government then they will have a better chance of helping those ppl. but, i don't agree about only helping ppl in this country (i doubt you meant it exactly like that). i do see where you are coming from though. every celebrity wants to jump on the lets-help-the-third-world countries bandwagon as if nothing is wrong with this country. sure, we aren't worse off than countries like these but the statistics about homeless children, the HIV epidemic, the abuse in foster care, the lack of education and the number of children that are 15 or 18 yrs old that can't read or write would truely shock the hell out of some ppl.
