Jessica Alba’s Muzzle Ad For Declare Yourself Releases

Let’s talk edgy marketing. What do you think about Jessica Alba’s newest ad showing the actress donning a pin-heavy Hannibal Lector-style mask for Declare Yourself. The muzzle is supposed to give you a physical representation of what you look like when you don’t vote.

Marc Morgenstern, executive director of Declare Yourself says the campaign is working.

"We recognize that to break through the media clutter and get young people to take action, we need to be edgy. "Jessica has had a huge impact on our campaign already, translating already to literally tens of thousands of additional voters."

What’s your take? Do you like it because the ad is getting people to stop and talk about voting? Or is the image too scary to be considered mainstream?

    Soooooo corny.

  2. Jessie D. says:

Yes it might be scary…but I think the the state of our country is WAYYYYY scarier!! It makes a VERY STRONG statement. As for the kiddos seeing these adds, isn’t there much much worse content that they see on a regular basis, and it usually isn’t for a good cause.

To Laila, if you even make a comment like that, you are a pervert yourself!

  4. Riviera says:

She should keep that muzzle on at all times. Anything she spews out of her mouth is pure garbage.

  5. Anonymous says:

oh, this is too gross. if I pass by a poster like this, seriously I would get nightmares.

couple of years back, they also had Tt-shirts with “VOTE OR DIE”, which I thought was pretty unnecessary too. If this is how far you have to go to have your American young adults listen….then….eh….all parents should be wearing muzzles

  6. Sporky says:

She should keep that muzzle on 24/7.

So how are they supposed to KNOW this ad has resulted in tens of thousands of voters? Did they put a little box on the registration card that says “yep, saw Alba, decided to vote”? Puhleeze. I can see getting the message out using a person representative of the age demographic but for gawd’s sake, let those people SPEAK intelligently to the cause and not slip into some fake ass MTVish visual drivel.

Course, with Alba, a closed mouth speaks much more loudly….

she is sooo annoying. drama queen.

  9. Anonymous123 says:

I don’t know she sure getting a lot of attention for this.

    oh brother

  11. Callie says:

Total waste of time and print if you ask me. Personally cant stand her. Besides, this add isnt exactly non-partisan. Alba is a vocal supporter for Obama. Quite frankly, the young people out there who have half a clue whats going on in the world DO vote. The ones that dont, Im not losing any sleep over their lack of voting.

  12. ERINISBUG says:

to those of you that said Jessica Alba needs to keep her muzzle on, kudos. ugh. i cannot stand her. her movies always tank. her husband is a nobody. she’s a mother for like, 1 week and precedes to publicly give parental advice and now THIS? ha. if she wants to “stand” for something it should be getting a quality role that requires less beauty and more talent (seeing that it is her CAREER afterall). until then, i could go the rest of my life without ever having to look at her unaccomplished, ass-clown face. this would be much better if there was a plastic bag over her head begging people to recycle.
*discaimer* this is not “hating” because i adore Natalie Portman, if it was her in the muzzle, this would be a completely different story. but it’s not. so there u have it.

  13. valcat says:

All I thought of was “Silence of the Lambs”, cannibalism, & creepy-not I should really vote. Why is it that it always has to be “edgy” in order to reach young people? The young people I know would see this and say “whatever”, “okay!?!?!”, “why?”, or just laugh at how dumb it is. I think that young and old appreciate honesty and sincerity more than edgy-at least I do.

  14. Jan says:

If this is what it takes to get young people to vote the worse thing is they will vote the same way Alba does without knowing WHY. This isnt going to make a young person go “oh ok Alba said I need to vote so Im going to tune into the local news station and listen to all the candidates”. They will just follow the herd mentality and vote because they think its TRENDY to do so. In Canada a year or so ago they had commercials on about a young guy calling his grandfather from France. The grandfather asked the kid how the clubs and restaurants were and the grandkid said he didnt know because he was actually visiting all the places his grandfather was during the war. Still brings a tear to my eye. THATS the sort of adverts I hope will get young people to vote. Thinking of the people who have died for that right to vote. Sorry slightly OT there lol

i think the ad’s message is great! i think some ppl might not like it just because it’s jessica alba. but i think it works. i had to do a similar project like this last year for my graphic design class and this is something you would’ve seen.

  16. Tiinnaaaa says:

Lol! I love the way you can still see her pout through the muzzle! :P Even like this she looks gorgeous.

  17. laurnicorn says:

That she’s naked brings rape to my mind more than anything about voting. Totally creepy and sketchy.

  18. Anonymous says:

Yes it gets your attention, but the fact is that Alba is not popular and in fact most people really dislike her! So it could work the wrong way. I personally can’t stand her and would never look at any of her ads in a positive way that might influence me to do or buy something.

  19. college_girl says:

I think these ads are attention getting in a very artistic manner. It doesn’t matter if it’s Alba or not, it’s still getting the attention of everyone who posted, which I think is the purpose of the advertisement; bring attention to the fact that by not voting, you’re silencing yourself, and nothings going to change. You’re not going to get the attention of people by using bland advertising. Hey, maybe the reason I like it is because I’m one of those young voters! ;)

  20. ERINISBUG says:

college_girl: i too am a young voter. also a disabled vet. more so, an young girl that while in the military, garnered too much about the way i looked as opposed to the job i was capable of. i realize that we need creative marketing strategies to reach out to youth, but come on! Alba’s ONLY reason for appearing in this ad is because she has a beautful face that even a muzzle can’t hide. WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT”S WRONG WITH SOCIETY. who cares if Alba wants youth to vote? how about some non-famous and less attractive humanitarian. OR the investor of alternative energy? OR a contorversial reporter? how is the new election going to effect Alba? why her? why her opinion? i’m actually insulted that they took the time to think of the ad, yet chose Alba as the poster-girl for political awareness. i COMPLETELY and whole heartedly agree with JAN, her comment is brilliant and 100% accurate. i don’t consider Jessica anymore politically savvy than myself, yet her naked/muzzled ass is supposed to “inspire” me to get to the polls and vote? anyone who buys into this propaganda has NO buisness voting in the first place. -muah!

  21. Anonymous says:

So you’re just a jealous bitter btch huh?? Jessica is as hot as they come!! Natalie Portman is a clown-ass ugly btch, short too and has no body! Her body is as flat as a cutting board and she is like a midget short …. booooooooo

  22. laila says:

i think some perverts may get aroused by this.

  23. Anonymous says:

    way too scary.

  24. The Valleys says:

I get the mask…the nudity not so much but. I guess you have to have the nudity to get people to look at the ad and then the bondage to get the point across so…..whatevs. JUST VOTE ALREADY!!!!! *BTW…Yah. I’m keeping an eye on those pesky Guitmo prisoners from my back yard in Miami.”

  25. Anonymous says:

    ha ha!!!!!

  26. spot says:

I think that these ads will grab the attention of the primary audience, 18-25 year old voters. The percentage of this age group that turns out to vote has traditionally been low; therefore, campaigns that are shocking, and encourage voting are not only welcome, but necessary. The ads should be placed with caution, however, since I for one, would not like my 4 and 5 year old neices being exposed to them.

  27. gia says:

too scary? more like too stupid…there has to be a better way to get the word out. she looks completely idiotic in the pics.

  28. Tyra says:

Are they taking lessons from PETA?

  29. Jen.number2 says:

I was just thinking that. It’s a dumb add.

  30. Anonymous says:

um why does she have to be naked???

  31. Mamita says:

If it gets people to register and vote, I say HELL YEAH!!

  32. Anonymous says:

    Clever!
