Miley Cyrus' Dad Approves Of 20 Year Old Boyfriend
Miley Cyrus is 15 and her boyfriend, Justin Gaston, is 20. A lot of parents might have a problem with this, but not Billy Ray Cyrus. Billy was quoted as saying,
"He actually reminds me a lot of myself when I was 20-years-old and I was living and searching for the dream. He's got a great heart and soul, and a lot of determination. I think that's the true measure of a man, is when you
measure his heart."
Aside from the age difference, as a parent watching your famous teen daughter date, must be hard because you just never know who has ulterior motives. If this kid is in the business dating Miley is obviously very good for him. I don't know what to think. Personally I wouldn't want my daughter to date a 20 year old when she's 15, but then there's the other side of the coin...age is just a number. What do you think?

And what Billy Ray is depriving Miley of, is the love and sencibility, to sit her down, and tell her he dosent approve of this. When I have children, I'd never let my 15 year old date a 20 year old, no way. I think that at that age, age isn't just a number. There's such a huge difference between the maturity levels at that age, I think it's irresponsible. I'm 20, I wouldn't date a 15 year old guy!! Having said that, Miley ISN'T at the same level of maturity as other 15 year olds, so in this case it could be viewed as different.

Like Lindsay Lohan dated Wilmer Valderama..they were just "friends" until she turned 18 -uhhuh. i agree with all that has been said - age is not just a number at that age and maturity level. there is a huge maturity gap between those two ages and there is something wrong with a 20 year old guy wanting to be with such a young girl. Despite miley having a successful career, i think she's actually proved to be rather immature for her age with all the inappropriate pictures she takes and videos she posts on youtube criticizing other young stars. in any case, it is odd to me that her very christian family would be supportive of such a relationship since we all know what 20 year old guys want...

not really a leap in today's world. pretty much all teenagers her age are sexually active and most are having sex. she's 16 now, the likely hood that she's not engaging in SOME sexual activity with her boyfriend is small to none. now put a celebrity teenager into the mix who pretty much gets whatever she wants and has the responsibilities of an adult, i'd say it's safe to say they're doing something they shouldn't be behind closed doors. i think a lot of parents these days need a reality check. if you have a teenage kid, he or she has most likely had sex, tried drugs and drinks socially. i realize that a lot of parents like to see and hope for the good in their kids but it's 2008. kids are aging way, way faster (although depending on how you look at it you could say the opposite). i think the only thing that can be done is to educate your children about safety in every facet. if they know they have a parent that will be there for them instead of yell and ground and be mad, they WILL call when they're in trouble and they will be wayyyy more honest with their parents.

My daughter is nearly 15 and there is NO WAY I would allow her to date a 20 yr. I don't care who he was, or how well we knew him, it would not even be an option. As others have said, it's not just numbers. I'm sure the 20 yr old in question is star-struck (who wouldn't want to date a celebrity), but it's just wrong in my eyes. I can't believe this is even a question, and I'm disappointed that her parents would allow this. Like or not, she's a role model to young girls, and this is not a good thing.

I have four daughters 17-26. MY rule in high school was "one year, one grade". I would only let them date one year older or grade higher in school. Really what does a Senior boy have in common with a frosh girl?..nothing..!!! Once they are 18 they can decide for themselves. As they get older the age does not matter. IT is a good rule and probably helped protect my girls.
I did think Jason was hot on Nashville Star, which Billy Ray hosted. I think Billy Ray got to know him over the weeks on Star and behind the scenes and he trusts the guy. Miley, given her career path is 15 going on 30, Jason has lived a more sheltered life and he's the naive one. She's going to be on to the next hot rising young star very soon - we shouldn't be worried about her.

Age is just a number, but not at 15. Granted she is no normal teenager there is still a lot of growing between 15 and 20. In normal terms it would be a sophmore in high school that's into boys, clothes, and magazines dating a junior in college that's into frat parties and internships.
It's two totally different parts of life.
It may seem bad for a 15 year old to be dating a 20 year old I sure wouldn't let my daughter do that BUT Miley is probably very mature for her age and that may be why her dad would approve

I feel Her father has been desensitized by his career and what comes along with it. Something is definitely amiss, and I cannot rationalize the facts- boys want sex and older ones want it more. Do we not already know this to be true. Come on people if you don't want you child having sex then she or he for that matter should be curtailed as in kept away from peer pressure, IE. older youths and young adults when they are in they most impressionable years (teen years). My husband also allows his 14 year old daughter (who lost her virginity at 12/13) to converse with a boy who is 18 and I caught her sneaking out with by lying and spending the night with, on the phone for up to 2 hrs a day because they are just friends and he doesn't want to push her away. HA, what a joke! I just found our two days ago she had a threesome or what she calls- just a 24 yr old man and his 17 year old girlfriend having sex in front of her at a hotel when she was at her"grandparents house over Christmas break", because she refused to have SEX. Sure, like I am supposed to think even that is okay, but her father believes her story and is obviously okay with that story. WTH!! Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Should I contact authorities? Miley being a "role model" is a ship that sailed a while ago. Her parents clearly need to supervise her a bit more - between provocative photos and now dating a 20 year old MAN, all with their approval. I have a young daughter who loves her show and music, but it is something we are now discouraging. It surprises me that they have not learned by watching the downfalls of so many young starlets. I hope they get a clue and stop treating their 15 year old daughter like a mature adult. 5 years may not matter much between ADULTS, but it certainly does between a young teen and a grown man.

I kinda see what the big deal is....BUT I dated a guy who was 4 years older then me when I was younger. I met him when I was 14 and turned 15 2 months later. He was 17 and turned 18 5 months later. We were together for a year and broke up, but got back together a year later.....my point being that if your a responsible person and are open with your parents then it's a growing experience. My parents loved this guy, and I still do, just not in the same way any more, and I wouldn't go back and change a thing-he was my first love!

Thank goodness there are still some people on this earth with some sense! It's funny how so many CHILDREN approve of this relationship and think it's "cool", and that they look "cute" together. Age is just a number. Aging and maturity do not go hand and hand and not everyone lives their life in a manner that is conducive towards increasing wisdom. Its always the older ones with guilt that have to throw out the age factor and "listen to me, I am older and wiser". Sometimes yes, but more times then not, its a crock of shit. I have met more darn older people that have stayed in the same place, have a TON of regret, what sound advice are they going to give me without it coming from their fears and anxiety of life, NADA. We all can learn something from each other, regardless of age.

I dated a girl who was 15 and we dated for 16 months and not once did we have sex. I'm not looking for a girl for sex, I'm looking for a girl i can spend time with and be happy with. Take your heads out of your asses and stop assuming that the guy wants sex. Besides, if you let her date a guy her age, guess what? He probably wants sex too!! My opinion is that she's young and her father should have a better handle in this. Actually, I would like the mother's side because isn't this somewhat scary to be going through as a mother of a 15-year-old who is going out with a man that's 20? I would. Doesn't Miley realize that he could over power her? Also, you are just creating hearsay even if they were having sex and she tells the cops they aren't they aren't going to do anything unless they can find evidence. There is basically no way they could prove it in the court of law without a reasonable doubt. Plus in alot of states now that she is 16 it is legal. In california it isn't legal because the age of consent is 18.
