Technology today is simply amazing. How GREAT does Lauren Conrad's hair look in these shots? So natural! I would be interested in getting some if I had a need for them. So many questions though!
- How often do you have to go back to touch them up?
- What about showering and sleeping? Do you take extra precaution?
- How do they get the color to exactly match your hair? Do they dye it or do they just give you what's closest to your color?
- How are they put on? Weaved in? Snapped in? Glued in? Ok, not glued in - but I really don't know.
- Does it feel soft like real hair? Or is it like Barbie Hair?
- Do you need to use special product on it?
Hair stylist - anyone care to chime in?
I do hair, but I DON'T professionally DO extensions, however I've cut and colored hair with them in.... As far as touching them up goes, I would say every 2 months (ish) and that make be stretching it... Sleeping and Showering are normal, however when you shower you DO want to be careful while shampooing...basically don't scrub too hard... Some people dye them to match a certain highlight or low light but for the most part you CAN find your exact hair color, I would imagine places in Hollywood probably have a stock room of extension hair. If they don't have your color they most likely have a swatch to match and then order it for you. As far as I know there are 3 ways extensions are done: WEAVING - That's when YOUR hair is braided (corn rows) all around your head and then the extension hair is sewn into those braids, so what you're left with is ALL fake hair... WEFT GLU - this is when a string of hairs in glued right onto your scalp. I have seen these done and it looks very natural, However it's hard to pull your hair back and they don't last as long. So this would be good if you just wanted long hair for a special occasion. These generally last 2-8 weeks. WRAPPING - This is what they do in Hollywood. From what I understand there's some sort of machinery involved. A small section of your hair is taken and then extension hair is wrapped around and glued to YOUR hair as close to the scalp as possible. You can get synthetic hair (which Yes, can feel like Barbie hair) but most people use real human hair, however there are really nice, soft synthetic hair extensions out there. You can used whatever product you want, however I will say that extension hair doesn't always style like your own hair. For example I had a client who had poker straight hair and when she got her extensions they gave her curled ones. Now you can imagine the difficulty she had trying to style her hair and the extension hair without it looking fake...unless she had a professional styling her hair everyday for her... There is a special brush you need that won't pull on the extensions that no stylist who gave you extensions should let you leave without. HOPE this helps!! Morgan
that is spot on...don't forget about the clip-ons...like jessica simpsons line... and i think there is a generic line on hsn or qvc...no damage to your hair when wearing these...when the hair is synthetic no heat...like hair dryers or curling irons...it will definitely ruin them. extensions are great for volume too!
Although Lauren Conrad's hairs looks ok, I dislike hair extensions. They always look so fake. I don;t really understand why so many people have them? Why not grow your own hair? I know it takes time to grow hair, but extensions never look as nice as natural hair does. With all of the maintenance, and cost, and discomfort involved with wearing hair extensions, if I were a celebrity who fancied changing my hair frequently, I would rather purchase good quality wigs so that I could have fun and not damage my own hair.
WOW - thanks for the post!! :) I was always curious.
Fake hair for a fake celebrity. losethatgirl blog
It depends how much money you want to spend. Clip ons are cheap, the they have the ones where you weave or braid a section into your hair those are more expensive and take longer, the best ones though take FOREVER to put in and last a long time, they take a few strands and then glue a few strands of the extensions to the real strands, it takes forever but lasts the longest and looks the most natural and it can cost way over 1000 dollars.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL CANADIANS:)
My hair stylist just got them & didn't last very long with them. She said the were not real comfortable and she couldn't wash it as often as she wanted. She said it was not worth the time she sat in the chair getting it done. She also said that there was MAJOR shock once they were in kinda like cutting off all your hair. I took alot of adjusting to the new hair style. It was really hard to just pull back into a ponytail since you could see that there was extentions in her hair. Overall she was not impressed. Thank god she did it first, now I know I would just grow my natural hair out.
* How often do you have to go back to touch them up? You have to touch them up every 4-5 months. but depending on the how much your hair grows its can be more or less time. * What about showering and sleeping? Do you take extra precaution? you can't shower with your head down, if you know what I mean. you can't use random brushes because some can rip of hair extensions, the hairdressers usually advise you to buy those that they use. * How do they get the color to exactly match your hair? Do they dye it or do they just give you what's closest to your color? the ones that are made of real hair can be dyed, the ones that are fake they choose a color that matches the best with the color of your hair. * How are they put on? Weaved in? Snapped in? Glued in? Ok, not glued in - but I really don't know. Hair extensions have a small amount of glue/silicone on the top and with the help of a special iron they'll glue it in to your hair. * Does it feel soft like real hair? Or is it like Barbie Hair? The fake hair extensions without the right treatment will feel like baby hair. The real hair extensions feel like real hair, but if you don't take care of them they'll end up feeling like Barbie hair. * Do you need to use special product on it? you wash your hair and extensions normally, but the difference is that you'll have to apply certain products like conditioners to keep the extensions soft. :) hope that I was helpful!
The ones Lauren may have (and the ones I want to get) are sometimes referred to as "beaded". Instead of glue, which can be harmful to your hair, or weaves, which don't last long at all and get all loose & tangly, these are little metal tube-like things that are clamped into your hair. So they are not suppose to do ANY damage. I know Paris was endorsing a particular brand called "dream weavers" and when I looked up that brand I found out most of this information. They special-order hair to match your color and texture usually, and I guess you can regularly wash, sleep, style, swim, etc. HOWEVER, the issue with these is that the good quality, real-human hair can be close to $1000. and then you would probably pay around $600 to get them put in the first time. And about $50 every 6 weeks to move up the beads and tighten them as your hair grows. But yes, with the good quality hair they are very soft. And that is pretty much the best type of extensions I've researched. You can keep maintaining them and they stay really nice. Lucky for me, I have a friend who can do all of this for me for about $600 including the cost of the hair. I'm excitedddd ;]
I'm guessing people do this cause their hair is thin, not cause they want longer hair? or both?
I have them because I want longer, fuller hair... I have a lot of very fine hair, and when it grows to a certain point it looks stringy, and the extensions give me body that I cannot achieve naturally.
I think that's why jessica simpson gets them, cause her hair is thin
Nice Indian hair extensions!!
The type of extensions I wear are bonded wefts... Small (very small) sections of my hair are threaded through the weft of the hair (human hair) with a small metal bead... The bead is then clamped shut with pliers... A lot of celebrities get these kind because they cause the least amount of damage, but it can get VERY expensive... One of my girlfriends who is a stylist does mine and I just buy the hair... For this kind, you want to get a brand of hair called BOHYME... We buy the closest matching color than tone it after.
Ive got GreatLengths and its real hair so its super softy and shiney! i hav to use products with a balanced ph under 5. and depending on how good i look after them i get 6months out of them. they are bonded onto the hair with like a glue stuff that needs special rmeover to dissolve the glue so it doesnt damage the real hair follicle. when they are first put in my head itches cos they are attached to real hair, and they only realy fall out or slip cos naturally we loose thousands of strands a day. my hairdresser is a colour expert (she just got back from amsterdam doing courses) and she matches it perfectly dying my natural and placing the extension tones to match they look sooo natural. and you can choose from 30,40,50,60,70 centimetres as they get longer the price goes up... i get the 60cm's ones and for my full head its around 500, but the colour on top of that and a cut xtra couple of hunge. they come in plastic coverings sorta folded up so they hav a natural wave to them so unless i blowdry and straighten its a piecey sorta S wave so i just plait it and then it looks like ive spent HOURS using the 3 prong tong straiteners curlers, my first set of exentions were 2 years ago, i cant live without them, naturally my hair is as long as them but styling wise and for the extra thickness i feel naked when i dont hav them!! and no **** they are the EXACT same colour as Laurens.. perhaps even look better ;) cheeky kisses from the CandyQueen
Mine are about the same color as Lauren's as well... And they look better, too!
Candy Queen...you must have money coming out of your ears!
Her hair looks gorgeous.
I will get them put in my hair sometimes. but it's not for fuller it's litterally to have longer hair. I've been growing my hair out since I was a freshman in high school and my hair is still not as long as I want it! (its about 4 inches from below my shoulders) I always get the clamped ones. It's the easiest to do but the only downside is you can brush from the actual head.
VERA CAN YOU DO A FASHION FIND ON LAUREN'S SHIRT IT'S CUTE
I get mine resewn every 4-5 weeks or whenever I get my highlights retouched, they do it at the same time. I have long hair already, but I like the fullness and volume ou get from extensions. I have real human hair (Capelli hair) extensions so they feel like real hair and I can curl/flat iron/ blowdry whatever just like my own hair. I take good care of them, I never pull my hair and if Iam swimmng or working out I put my hair in two braids or tie it back. I have varied shades of blonde in my hair, the bottom layers being more strawberry naturally so I have two rows of extensions- the top one lighter blonde like my highlighted hair and the bottom row more strawberry. They don't need to color the extensions, they had so many shades it was easy to match my hair exactly. People constantly compliment me on my hair. "OMG, I wish I could grow my hair out like that.", "How do you always have perfect good hair days! It's so unfair." or "What product do you use to get so much volume?" LOL! I always tell the truth though and give them my stylists info because I want her business to do well! :)
Vera, Thank you for asking these questions!!! I have always wondered about it too : )
Re: Hair Extensions. They last for 4-6 months (closer to the 4 month mark) Costly, but worth it! Yes, they are glued in! They offer all colors, and also, if you color or highlight, they will take care of the extensions. It is just like your own hair. You might want to upgrade your shampoo and conditioner. The only thing they really caution you about is; don't airdry your hair, and don't use your iron on the glue. The first set is the trickiest just because you're a little bit afraid of them falling out or something, but after that, you don't even notice them anymore. If you can afford them, go for it!
Lauren's hair always looks stunning.

Indian remy is the best quality hair, some stylist do use glue(soooo bad) I use a synthetic keritin bond, yes there is a difference. I also use an Infra light machine that bonds the your hair to the extension hair, this is by far the best technique for damaged or fine hair. This machine does not used high heat to melt the bond as hot point machines, it gently softens the bond with light. I also use the flat technique instead of rolling the hair it doesn't break this way. 4-6 months depending on how well you take care of it, all of my clients get a complimentary hair care pack, so they have no excuse not to care for it, but yes you will need special product as well as a special brush. the cost is $800 - $3500 depending on what you need and the length. You can also get special fantasy pieces that are really cool with swarovski crystals and beautiful feathers, I highly recommend hair extensions especially for fine hair that wants to be thicker and more lustrous, and really why not? they did it in ancient Egypt and through out the ages, heck look at what Marie Antoinette did for hair extensions and wigs in the 1700,s. We do nail extensions push up bras, color our hair where high heels. Longer thicker hair why not! check out my site for more extesion info www.karmakollective.com/extensions.html
